Bar Tape Suggestions?

I have a question for the group.   I need to replace the handlebar tape on my tri bike and am looking for suggestions.  I sweat alot and am looking for something that will not get slippery when wet while riding without gloves.  Any thoughts?

  • Specialized Phat Boy Tape - it comes w/ gel pads that can go under the tape if you are looking for additional shock absorbing. I prefer it without the gel> and think it is the greatest bar tape evah! Pricey - but worth it, especially if you are a heavy sweater
  • X2 for lizard skins. Just put new ones on recently on my road bike and Tri bike.
  • I have lizard skin on roadie and love it!, But, on the tri bike I rarely wear gloves and never race in them. Too slow with wet hands and I like to minimize the moving parts. That being said. on the tri-bike I use tape from ZIPP. It is nice and spongy and easy on the hands without gloves.
  • Thanks for the advice...has anyone tried Arundel Gecko tape?
  • I use Fizik tape as it matches my Fizik saddles perfectly... and we all know the saddle and bar tap matching is much more important than comfort ;-)

I have been very pleased with the Fizik as the white wipes clean and actually stays white for much longer than some other tape I have used. There are other products that are more comfortable.
  • I have lizard skin on my drop bars and they get slick...not sure how, but when I go to them to brake, I have to keep a tight grip. I like cheap felt or bonty tape and just replace it more often on my aero bars. Just my $.02
