Can someone be my Slowtwitch Kona correspondent between now and Oct 13?

Is there anyone who is on Slowtwitch regularly who would be willing to do me a huge favour?   What i'm after is just a quick PM in case something absolutely Kona race-critical gets posted, and would be worthwhile taking a look.

Please don't interpret this as a "drive-by brag."   Or reeking of "Paulo knows where to find me."  I'm seriously asking in earnest.

Thing is I get very stressed leading up to races, and as much as I like to read the good and bad of ST, I know I can get downright obsessive and lots of the noise on there easily gets in my head and musses me up when I should be trying to quiet my brain the most.   So, I want to try to abstain from visiting, but don't want to miss out on anything critical and valuable that might be posted.

Examples:

Valuable:

"The race has moved to Maui.  And now starts at 5am."

=Send me a PM to take a look.

Not Valuable:

"Macca sure did post a zinger of a tweet today - check this out and tell me why you disagree."

Looking for pre-race Taper Zen,

Dave

  • Dave, I'll be on ST more as we get closer to Kona, so if something important comes up, I'll send you a PM. The race organization/check/athlete events/etc at Kona is top notch. If something important was really to change, they would make sure you know. Plus everyone in Kona on race week is there for the race... it's like high school and information/rumors spread instantly.

The key to my taper is to take any spare time I have and spend it in the sauna or steam room. I can't go online from there and it helps me acclimate :-)
  • Yeah, I totally get where you're coming from. That place can be a huge time sink and it gets noisy too often. I can't believe I spent a whole hour reading through the witch hunt drama that transpired over there a few days ago... image
  • There is almost nothing important that happens over on ST. Certainly nothing you should be spending your time on. Remember there were countless years where people raced in Hawaii before there was even an Internet! Put endurance nation on speed dial and you be all set.
  • @Matt, are you racing in Hawaii? From the post above it sounds like you're the sauna room right now. image
  • @P - nope... i did while in my last 3 weeks of training for vegas and I do think it helped as I was never hot during the race. That said, I do have to figure out how to better acclimate for vegas next time around as it was the worst PE/Pace decoupling I've ever experienced.
