Week of Sept 17th -- IMAZ Plan Week 12 Wazzzup?!

 Testing week!?!! Hmmmm.

I know I dont if I really need to test this week, I know its been a long time, but my run pacing all seems to be pretty consistent. Maybe I've moved up 1 Vdot point, maybe. Swim is pretty static. Bike is probably lower now that I'm full-time into the aero tri position, but I can guess based on FTP WKOs thats about 10-15watts lower. So do I really need to test? They are good workouts though.

Gotta shift my weekend rides to weekday, so I can head down to phoenix this weekend and help dad-in-law insulate his attic. Talk about a sweat test!

What's everyone going to do this week?

  • guys, I am in the same boat. I don't feel up for the testing either. I did the big tri day on Saturday and kicked serious butt doing it. I'm going to swim and use last weeks long run again. I won't get to ride this weekend so I am going to miss some big ride time but will try and do an extra 90' trainer ride and 40' brick on Thursday to make up for it.
  • I will do the bike test but won't do the run test. Last time I did the run test I thought I hurt my achilles again but it was just a strain. Trading it in for a 1.5 hour run Thursday instead. My swim is always bad so it is what it is.
  • Doing my big tri week this week, just worked better with my schedule....and maybe I don't want to feel the pain of testing!!!
  •  I agree with the sentiments about testing this week.  I cannot test in the swim -doing 2200 yards every day on the triton swim trainer until my smashed finger heals.  And cannot test the run although my hami is improving.  I was going to do last week's bike workout today on the trainer but somehow got sucked into the test instead-it was tough and only one watt gained-not going to change my IM pacing!

    I will do thursday's long run as close to RX as hamstring will allow.  I plan to ride the Beeline saturday so will report on conditions and wind-however, it will be early and its later that the wind picks up.  I know last year some of my slow friends late in the afternoon were going slower on the downhill back to McDowell than up to Shea.  I was going to do Nathan's olympic this sunday at tempe town lake but looks like my finger won't be healed up enough, so will do another long bike

  • I'm actually glad to have testing this week! I'm happy to have some shorter work outs!
  • Glad I'm not the only one modifying/bagging tests. Of course like Amy said more rest is the upside to a testing week!

    I bagged my Bike Test and turned the WKO into 4x10' @ z4. Did it on the trainer and held what I thought should be my FTP watts. Barely made it., so I think I'm pretty close on my guestimation of FTP.

    Had awesome swim sessions this week. Changed yesterday's swim to include 16x100 @ TT pace with 10" rest. Solid results, so perhaps I do need a new swim test pace. I'm thinking I can do that this weekend in PHX, while I'm away.

    Long Bike sessions up for today and tommorrow!

  • bike test went great! 1st outdoor run test failed due to blowing up at mile 1 running a 6:33 pace. not 7min mile I should have been @. Need to make friends with a track coach?? It would be nice to test on a track and not the road. swim test 2 seconds faster and I will take it. Keep on Keeping on. need a nap
  • Let me say that I seriously dislike testing and have skipped it all year long on every training schedule (this is 3rd IM this year).

    That said, I was not planning to test again, but since I am not swimming, it meant A LOT of rest. Which lead to "I feel great, I should test"
    I should have known better....
    My FTP is up 8 watts, which just means more pain.
    My VDOT has not changed in years. For better or for worse. But I will say that I felt strong this time.
    And then it was time to return to swimming... air: 49 degrees, water 72 degrees. Sleeveless wetsuit. Good friends. No swim test. Maybe next week.
  •  Good job everyone!!

    @Michele +8 watts Nice!

    @Shawn try calling the local school district/ high school they might have a pass program to use the track. That's how ours works in flagstaff.

    So I learned this week the power of proper post-workout recovery nutrition. Did my 4 hr ride Thursday afternoon, and finished it a hot- wet mess, totally blown, barely crawled home @ 50%. I thought there was no way I could follow up with 3 hr abp on Friday. But I focused on taking in lots of low glycemic carbs, salt & fluids. Made sure I had 7 hrs sleep. BAM. Turned around and crushed the ABP ride, and felt good! Going to make that a focus over the remaining weeks!

    Going for 1hr OWS today, so psyched!

  • @Rian THANKS! Going to Look into it.
  •  Good job everyone.  Hope all had great saturday rides.  I'm afraid my training just gets worse.  Family emergency landed me back in my hometown, Kansas City, for the weekend so no cycling at all.  It feels huge to miss out on 7 hours total!  Did a 10 mile run today on the Overland Park Indain Creek trail in 60 degree weather,  which was a nice change from the desert and will (finally) get back in the water in the AM for a long swim workout.  I got cleared for chorine pool swimmimh but still not open water for at least a week.  I'm looking forward to seeing if 2 weeks on the triton swim trainer gave me some new upper body strength and a stronger pull.

  • @Betsy- Sorry for the troubles.

    @Rian- 4th discipline- Nutrition!

    7 weeks to go.
