Molokai Hoe and Kona Ironman double header.

Possible for the future.

I used to do endurance six man outrigger canoe racing.    I have done the Molokai Hoe.    This is a fourty mile, six man outrigger canoe race, with nine men per team.      40 miles from Molokai to Oahu.     This race is typically the week before or the same weekend as Ironman Kona.

So a thought:     If I ever make it to Kona, maybe will consider doing the Molokai Hoe (if my old teammates will allow) and then Ironman Kona a week later.

I wonder if anyone else has done this?

  • I have no idea, but you are crazy.
  • Or you could canoe to Maui and do the Xterra WC two weeks later

  • And then do Ultraman, just to top it off!

    You're nuts, but I think that's awesome!
  • Ok,

    Molokai hoe canoe race.

then a week later Ironman Kona.

then two weeks later the xterra (assuming qualification) on Maui.     This is home so would be neat.   Though bummed they moved it from the Kihei side of the island to the Lahaina side.    No longer on the slopes of Haleakala (house of the sun).

    Sounds like a good feat.

No desire to do ultraman at present but thoughts can change.

  •  Xterra has a "lottery" for their WC - they call it "at-large" spots. Every time I entered, I got a spot. Lastvrace I did was the last one @ Haleakula/Makena.

  •  I grew up on Kauai and totally get wanting to do this. What an experience (and challenge ).

  • Awesome goals ... but yes, you are nuts. However, I once saw some pics of those tourist outrigger adventures off Hawaii and they looked fabulous. Sadly, I don't have enough upper body strength to contribute much to a canoe team.
  • Will see if I get a chance to do this in the future.

When I first started triathlon, canoeing was my "swimming".       Similar muscles are used.
