The Official PreSeason Thread

Team,

Patrick and I have created a PreSeason training plan. The intent of this plan is to help YOU set up a great OutSeason by first closing out your current year right.  It was created specifically because we realized the athletes who struggled the most in the OS and regular season typically never “finished” the year prior -- they went right from OS to Triathlons to Running to the OS again!

This is NOT a basic training week (we have those!), rather this is meant to help you set the stage for a successful next season.

Plan Status Update -- We are working to put this into the training plan platform so it will be available in the training plan drop down menu for selection into your training plan account. If you can’t wait, you can download the public PDF version we are using to promote TeamEN here.

The PDF version of the plan is very much for external distribution in advance of our membership drive in October. It contains a lot of material that you may or may not find useful or pertinent to you as a member...but it does contain the actual training plan and a good bit of background information about the PreSeason and it’s purpose.

To read more on the PreSeason, please head over to the EN Wiki here for more information.

Thanks!

~ Rich & Patrick

  • and one more update. In conjunction with the opening of our membership drive for new people, we have created a Preseason webinar to explain more about the plans and the process. If you're interested in attending with everyone else, or at least getting an e-mail notification of the recording when were done, please register here: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/140032217
  • Okay, I suppose here is as good a place as any. I remember talking to you on the phone about this issue about my late season race. I did the Walpack Wilderness Challenge (6K run/21K bike/2K run) duathlon on October 21st. I put up a race report if anyone wants to read it. It wasn't an 'A' race but I wound up focusing on it and gave it everything I had - I finished 7th overall and completely surprised myself. The run terrain was much rougher than I thought it would be and I am still very achy from it. I've been doing everything within my means (except an ice bath! I was frozen all race and only wanted a hot epsom salt bath) to recover. Right now I'm taking a break but I figure 10 days isn't going to be enough, certainly not a 4 week Pre-season stretch. I went to the pool today to do some easy deep water 'running' and arm work to try to loosen up a little but that will be as intense as it gets until next week.

My question is about choosing when to start the OS. Should I start it on schedule and ease into it for the first couple weeks or do I delay entry and do it fully committed from the start?
  • Pete - Three thoughts:

    1. Rest up before you start the OS.  It is intense both mentally & physically.

    2. The start of your OS is based on the timing of your "A" for 2013.  If you have an early season race (IM in first 6 months of 2013) then you probably want to start with the Oct OS group.  If you A race is after July 1, 2013, then start with the Jan OS group.

    3. You may want to complete the season planning tool questionaire and submit it.  Coach R take your input and will lay out a 2013 plan for you, including when to start the OS.

    Hope this helps.
