Kerrville Triathlon Festival
What a fun race! I had so much work the night before this race I just got to the race venue in time to sign in. then found a hotel quickly as the idea of driving two hours from Austin was not going to be practical. Then off to Walmart to get a sweatshirt and flannel pants as it was almost as cold as Quebec!
got to sleep after an incredible dinner at Valentino's ...cooked by Valentino! back to the hotel to beg for late check out for next day.
Just thinking about work all night and the fact that I have to catch a plane to a conference at 7PM after this race!
got up early, ate my Luna bar, went potty and off to race venue. Body marked myself in the mirror (it came out 1P8 not 198 but what the heck!) and set up transition grateful for the clothes from Walmart while standing in the drizzle.
okay off to the swim. totally unprepared. buoys on the left? okay where are the darn buoys? it's raining! what the heck! can't see anything anyway!
okay swim was fun in great water although a bit murky and sighting and even finding adjacent bodies to draft was difficult. Oh shoot. I screwed that one up!
okay out of the water... now where the heck is my bike! It was raining during the set up and I don't know where anything is! okay found it...only 5 minutes of confusion. okay, just forget it. have fun and just get done cause I have to catch a plane.
zipped through the ride and had enormous fun! some delightful hills that were short that I stood on for a few seconds before I remembered that I needed to stay in the box.
Hopped off the bike (sooner than I thought!) and was glad I listened to that Rich And Patrick recommmendation. Loved the run which was half on road and half on the trail. finished up, smiled at my friend Logan who was doing the announcement and just felt absolutely great! On my own turf and knew so many folks. What fun! caught the plane in time and told my friend Kelly to pick up any hardware for me if I got any....
and guess what.... I won my age group! I got my results last night after landing in Las Vegas! gapped my nearest competitor by 1 hour 29 minutes. that was a surpirse for me.... Thanks RnP!
Now, got to put the ego back in the box as I get ready for NY marathon..... lessons learned... check out the darn swim course and where my bike is! I won't be that lucky next time!

I set a PR for the half and all five disciplines, I guess work works after all. Thanks, RnP. Congratulations on the performance, if you come back next near, holler. Once the new river trail is finished this race will be epic!
I go to Fredericksburg and kerrville a lot in the spring, for "hills", and would love some EN companions! (nothing against the members of my local tri team I go with, of course)!
I practically live on those Hill Country hills during the spring, and even get out to Big Bend and Ft Davis as much as possible, so please let me know next time you're out here! Maybe we can organize a camp?!
