Acid Reflux

I can't really drink gatorade anymore because of my acid reflux. Does anyone have any suggestions for something to drink other than water?

  • Trey: Acid reflux is a very personal issues. You need to get a bunch of different products and see what works for upon.
  • As Dr. Penny said, it's very personal, but I would advise that it might be something more than just Gatorade consumption.

Personally, my acid reflux and also my eczema disappeared when I stopped drinking cows milk. At that point, I switched to Soy milk, and now I don't even drink that.

For Ironman-distance training and racing, I use Infinit, by the way.
  • Trey - good advice above. Not sure it helps, but I found that I'd get bad heartburn with Gatorade, but when I took a 150mg Zantac before a race or training, I was fine. I also use Infinit and keep the flavor way light to also help.
  • I had a long, long bout of acid reflux. For me, the solution was a combination of diet change, weight loss and significant exercise. I went from about 185Lbs. to 155-160Lbs when I got serious about exercise. I changed my diet and stopped eating out of vending machines at the end of the hall. I rarely have reflux now, but I do occasionally. Gatorade is a product that I stay away from because there are much better drinks out there (Powerbar perform is my preference). My take on nutrition is to try to work out the most nutritionally sound strategy, then make adjustments when something doesn't seem to sit well. Just my $0.02.
  • Acid reflux for many years. Runs in my family. I take Prilosec daily. Keeps it in check. That is not the right solution for everyone.

I use Skratch lab. Very mild, not acidic, very tasty. I switched from Inifint.
  • Thanks everybody.

  •  Try ironman perform.    On the courses.

and then try as below.    Infinit.   Sctratch labs.  Etc
