Toe pain only when watching watts

This is my first time to train with power. I've had off-and-on pain in my toes on the bike for years. It feels like someone is pouring hot oil over my toes (3 and 4th). This year when training with power, I found that it really only happened when I was watching my watts.

I've been to a couple of docs to have it looked at, used a metatarsal button, g it bike fit, got custom insoles, put a gel insole under the custom insole at the advice of the guy who fit my bike and made my insoles and am still getting the pain,

Any thoughts?

  • The Specialized insert with metatarsal buttons fixed my issue a number of years ago. I hope you can find the source of your problem and get it corrected - hot feet really take the joy out of riding.
  •  Penny ... You may know moving your cleats back so the pedal is under mid foot, helps. A recent L. Zinn column in velonews.com talked about a shim speedplay has which moves things back even farther.

  • I know I keep throwing this thread around, but it seems to cover a whole host of topics that show my history with foot issues and helped me out.

Don't know why you'd only have issues now that you have power, except that maybe your close attention to the computer is driving you to push more locally on the inflamed nerve(s) when reaching for the specific wattage numbers.
