Bike Shipping

I hereby provide my endorsement for shipbikes.com.  I purchased their "Aircaddy" shipper and used them to ship my bike to and from IMFL training camp.  The box is large but requires minimal breakdown (great for someone w/ limited skills) and eliminates the need to pay a shop to do it for you.  The bike is VERY secure in the box and actually bolts your fork to a metal bracket in the box.  Their shipping rates are about 1/2 what you'd pay going through FedEx Ground on your own and they are very helpful.  (I put this to the test for sure!)  You can print out your shipping label 24/7 too. "Candy" (my bike) made it to and from safe and sound.

  • X2: even with my own box their shipping rates were far better than what I was able to negotiate on my own.
  • Just sent my air caddy to recycling. Got 3 round trips out of it. I will get a new one when I need to ship my bike again. Agree with the endorsement.
  • Do they go to europe or mexico?

  • I used them for EN ToCA camp in 2010, with my own box. Loved them, and the ability to pre-purchase both out and back, super easy!

If you do ship internationally, be VERY careful, nobody can ever really promise time thru customs!
  • I like this idea very much....need to decide on my IM TX travel and shipping...Quesiton.. How do you handle the handlebars?  Roll them Downward?

  • Joe- Just loosen and rotate forward/downward. How much you need to do so may depend on the size of your bike. No issue with mine, but I'm guessing my girlie bike is smaller than most. image
  • Very cool. I'm checking them out.
  • Kim, did you have to remove the pedals as well? Im new to triathlon and dont have any bike tools as of yet. I just took a basic bike mechanic class so I know how to do it I just dont have the tools to do it. Thanks for sharing!
  • Nope. Pedals stay on with their AirCaddy box. U will need some kind of wrench to loosen the handlebars and lower the seat though. U should get a small wrench set anyway to carry with tubes, etc.
  • Need to get bike from California to Austria this summer. (IM Austria, June 29), any recommendations? My plan was to fly with it so I make sure it's with me, then right after the race ship it back so I don't have to lug it around Europe for 2 week vacation.
Would prefer to ship it over ahead of time but very leery of my Tri bike making it there in time, and where would I ship it anyway? The hotel?
If I fly with it will there be issues with customs taking the box apart/unpacking and repacking it poorly? Thanks
  • Shipbikes.com does do International. You would need to ship it somewhere where someone can sign for it, like the hotel.
