Ankle pain and possible bone cyst

I'm a new member and making my first post on the EN forums so my apologies in advance if this comes out looking a bit funky....

Been having some nagging pain on the inside part of my right ankle.  Only happens when running and only occurs after about 2 miles.  If i stop for a few seconds and bend the ankle forward and back a few times it seems to loosen up and i'm again pain free for another couple miles until the same thing repeats itself.  This continues for the duration of my run.  After running its a bit sore, but does not impact my ability to walk or otherwise move around.  I made an appointment to have it looked at the doc took x-rays.  It does not appear to be a stress fracture but because of how the ankle bone looked on the x-day, the doc thinks it could be a bone cyst on the ankle.  I have CT scan scheduled for next week.

My questions are; has anyone had similar symptoms and if so, what was the outcome?  Does a bone cyst sound like a possibility, and if so, what is the treatment.  If that turns out not to be the case, what other type of soft tissue injury could be the cause?

Thanks All!

Mark

  • Looking at your picture with an IM back ground, you have been around the block a few times.

First off Welcome to the team... aside from any medical issue, which sounds as if your on the ball, do you think perhaps changing your shoe/gait might help. This is all pre-mature of course but just a suggestion.

  • Thanks for the welcome and response, david.
I'm with you....changing shoes was the first thing i thought of as i have been running on the same pair for longer than usual. I had a new pair that i broke out when i first started having problems and while the ride is a little smoother, the pain returned just the same. I was hoping for a quick fix, but no luck.

For now i just plan to stick to swim and bike and see what the CT scan reveals next week.

    Thanks, again!
