Ironman Wisconsin 2012 Kickoff!

Hello Wisconsin Teammates! It is the week we've all been waiting for -- 12 weeks to IMWI! Big bike rides, long lake swims, camp, big vdot gains and all sorts of fun are beginning.

Now, Ironman Wisconsin has especially good tradition of EN mojo:

2010 had the pink speedo men in the year of Chicas Ruling:

2011 had the payback of uh, me in a pink bikini (thank you, pink speedo men. I would not wear this outfit for just anyone.)

So, who's racing?

What are your aspirations, numeric AND spiritual.

What is your secret weapon of mojo and awesome that you will bring to this crew?

How are we going to get Rich back into his pink speedo to inspire/scare us from Mile 18 to the finish line?

I'm Beth. Here for Ironman number two.

Time goal? To finish the swim eons before cutoff and get to the finish line with a 12:xx:xx time.

Spiritual goal? Have as much fun racing as I did last time and learn to err more on the side of hubris than caution.

Mojo power? Making good bar bets with Rich that get him to wear pink speedos. Also, balancing training with eating incredibly delicious food.

  • Hey Beth - Way to kick off 2102...Love the pictures and sure remember seeing the video of the Pink Speedo's - as well as famous "What's on my Bike" video - both priceless.

Working hard on this end on getting back in shape and being healthy at the start line. As you well know, been an adventure, but it's coming along.

My goal for IM #2 is now just to finish and have fun. Tossed out the time goals with the stroke (now a great excuse if my older brother smokes me), but certainly not the inertia to keep having fun...

Somehow we need to get Rich back out there in that Pink speedo - counting on you to come up with some strategy for the training camp.

    Looking forward to this adventure!
  • Hi Beth

    Great Pics!

I look forward to IM week and meeting everyone!   Makes all the training worthwhile.

My goals...a little wisconsin payback.  I got crushed last year and plan to "get it right" this time around!

12 hours and change!  Your awesome!

As for the pink speedos...ill be in enough pain at mile 18....not sure i need to add to the suffering!

  • Looking forward to tackling this course and finishing with a smile on my face. This is my A race and I am putting my heart and soul into the next 12 weeks. Hope to show up race day healthy and ready to go.

Lookng forward to meeting more team mates and learning from their experience and putting that into play.

Going to try and ride the course several times before 9/9. The first being at camp for RR#1 then the day after.
  • Nice! Our little crew is going to have quite a fun summer!

Carl - The course is definitely worth riding. Thankfully, they changed the first part a bit so we have been saved the worst left turn into a hill on the course and get a few, fun rollers to break up the sunny, hot false flat part of the Loop.

    - Oh, Josh and Noodle's What's on my bike videos were hilarious! Did you catch the Pro/Ruining Your Race video, too?
  • Yes - I do remember the "Ruining Your Race" video too....have thought of that many times when when I jump out of the saddle cranking up a hill in training thinking - "oh - if those guys saw me now, they'd say I'm killing my race!"

Any way to dig those old video's up and post them on this IMMoo site?

I bet Bill or Nemo would know where they are! I'll ask them.

  • I'm pretty bummed that I will not be at IMWI for the first time in 5 years. I really wish WTC would have picked a different weekend for Vegas.
  • It will be so sad not to have you, Matt! Glad to see you joinng our thread. Of course, if Theresa wants to stay at cheer we will totally take her!

  • Howdy, IMMoo peeps!  This will be my first IM and my goals are to have fun and finish with a smile on my face! If I can get in under 16, that would be great but I won't be totally bummed if I don't.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!

  • @Beth thanks for starting this up! I just came from the Summer HIM group and we had a great group of teammates posting workouts and stuff and I was hoping that people training for WI would be doing the same thing, awesome! While I was training in the HIM group I took a lot of pride in the fact that we have been the most active group for a couple months now image I'm hoping the Wisconsin crew can change that!!!

Hey team, I'm really looking forward to training with everyone for this race. I just finished my first HIM in Syracuse on Sunday and had a lot of fun doing it. It was cool to meet a couple of our teammates at the race too! Wisconsin will be my first IM and I expect the same amount of fun X 2!!! I don't have any time goals for the race at this point but I'll probably have a number in the back of my head at about 6 weeks out. I had a good race time wise at Syracuse but didn't execute as well as I could. I could say that's because I'm a rookie but being a part of EN makes me a lot more knowledgeable than the typical long course rookie. One of my goals for this race will be to execute a lot better. As I go through the IM plan I have 2 things I'm going to try and pay some extra attention to: body comp and swimming. In addition to executing race strategy better these two items will definitely help me perform to my full potential.

Unfortunately I won't be able to join everyone at camp this year but I'll be watching and looking forward to your insight on the course! And, ultimately I'm really looking forward to meeting and racing with everyone. So, that being said, lets get this party started!
  • Congratulations, Doug! And Ironman training is way, way more fun than HIM training. Longer bike rides. You get to eat a lot more food. =-) I love it!

  • Bump -- Scroll down for "What's on my Bike" videos of the Ironman Wisconsin transition area and pictures of the infamous men in pink speedos.

Team not at camp: We tried very hard to get Rich back into his pink speedo with no luck. Time for a Facebook petition?
  •  OMG!  That video is hilarious!  We definitely need to petition!!

And I can't decide if my fav bike setup was the power bars or pills taped to the bike...
