Discifying a SRAM S80

Thoughts on adding a cover to an S80 rear versus getting a "full" disc cover for my Mavic Aksium training wheels?

Front will be an S80 - upcoming race is Augusta 70.3 on Sept. 30th

    I think the 2 options will have nearly identical aero benefits. But the cover on the S80 would look cooler so if it were me, that's what I would do...

    Disc up the 80. Agree with JW that it will look cooler.

    assuming equal weights, disc the training wheel.   more bombproof.   easier to change tubes with no valve extenstion crap.   etc.

    since you are running a S80 front, I would run the S80 covered rear as then you can use the same spare tube with the same valve extender already installed... less to worry about it you get a flat during a race.

    plus, it's really easy to nicely tape a cover to a 80mm wheel and make it very clean. not that it is hard with a normal wheel, but the cover goes on the 80 really well.

    Of course this assumes that A) you will still have power and B) you already have the S80 rear. I would not go buy or rent one just for this...in that case just use the training wheel.

    Thanks so much guys. I broke down and bought an S80 pair yesterday to Matt's comment and yes, still have the Quarq. Also glad to hear that a cover with an 80 has been done before. I looked at Trevor's pic from IMMT of his Flo 60 with a cover and it looked good (and seems to have performed well - more importantly) so had hoped the same would hold true for an 80...

    Was planning to buy a set of Flo wheels (similar weight/price) but I was too late...

    Disc cover arrived and looks decent - might elect to tape it. Main issue now is it seems I need a crack pipe. Using 51mm Vittoria Latex and 60mm Bontrager inline extenders (Zipp 41mm would be better). Even if I went with short extenders I still cannot see how my pump would fit. Is it just common knowledge that you need a Silca adapter for disc covers and I was clueless?!?

    You should be able to get a regular pump head in there my bending back the cover.    kind of pull the cover away from the rim and work the head in.

    Be careful not to crack the cover if you forgo the crack pipe, I know "a friend" that did that to his cover in San Juan, but he put electrical tape on the crack and everything was ok.

    Yeah - was able to get the head on with undoing the two screws on either side and holding it on while sherpa pumps.

    I am thinking a crack pipe is the best idea...
