Introductions

Just thought I'd start this thread so the group can start getting acquainted!

FL will be my first IM.  I have done one HIM (Timberman 2011) and will do my 2nd (Rev3 Maine) in 2 weeks.  My first tri was Sept. 2009.  I expect to finish somewhere between 15-16.5 hours so its going to be a looonngg day for me.

I live in CT with my wife Sheri and 2 dogs, Maggie and Kona.  (Kona is suppossed to be my running buddy but turns out she is a little afraid of people on the trail.... go figure!)

Looking forward to meeting you all in Nov!

  • I am now living in FL.  FL will be IM #4, and 2nd IMFL.  I have done a couple 70.3s and a bunch of shorter stuff.  It is just my wife the dog and I, no kids.  I have a couple of buddies doing the race as their first ever tri!.  I couldn't get them to sign up for EN but I guess I am their unofficial coach.  We should have a large cheering squad on site (around 15 people) and they will cheer on all EN, so wear your jersey.

  • I have done many shorter distance tri's including HIM, but his will be my first full. I put it on my "bucket list" a long time ago as something I wanted to do before I turned 50. Wow has the time flown by!!
My first goal is to get to the starting line healthy... and then work my way to the finish line!! I moved FL a few years ago from Ohio for my husbands job. I have 3 children, 2 in college and 1 in high school.
I'll have to work on getting some EN gear - I'm gonna need the cheering!!
  • I live in NJ with my wife Jess (EN member) and our 2 kids, JT (6) and Luke (4). IMFL will be my third IM. I did IMLou last yr and did IMNYC last month. I will be wearing my Team ReserveAid kit (as seen in my Avatar) during the race. We had 22 on this charity Team racing in NY, and there will be 3 of us in FL (2 of us are in EN). My goal for IMFL is to have a 10-handle on my time. I hope to either have a 10:59:59 or better or blow up spectacularly trying! Not really the EN way, but what the heck...
  • I'm 41. Regular weekend warrior dude who isn't fast but can outlast most humans. Very average with extremely obsessive tendencies. Undiagnosed, untreated ADD so forgive me if I have a hard time paying attention to you image I'd love to be more humble but I'm afraid nobody would notice!

The true champ is my wife, Sheri, for putting up with me. She's a killa when it comes to challenges. Unfortunately, most of the challenges she deals with come from me and the kids and have everything to do with life and nothing to do with sport. She'll be volunteering most of the weekend, gear bag check ins, gear bag handoffs, sunscreen. I bet she puts in about 12-15hrs over Fri and Sat.

3 kids who appreciate how crazy this is. 16, 15, and 8. Good kids, but they're not ripe yet so not ready to cut 'em loose. They're gonna turn out just fine and run your business if they stay out of jail.

Been doing tri's for about 10 yrs now. All distances. Have a couple of Irons, GFT and IMLP, and a charity gig that we threw together on our own to raise $ for The V Foundation, bricked 4hrs bike/2hrs run repeatedly from N. Atlanta to Savannah's beach, nonstop. So, I count that one with the IM's.

I love cutting the grass after a 2 hr run on a 100* day and relaxing with 3 cups of Applesauce down a funnel. Not.

Bottom line...love the fitness and challenges that comes with the endurance/multisport lifestyle and always enjoy tinkering with the system to see if I can still push it, maybe even get a little faster, as I get older.

Looking forward to meeting all of you!
  • I live in south Jersey with my wife and two kids Nicholas (8) and Sophia (4).

This will be my first IM. I started in triathlon three years ago on a dare. I'm three years new to swimming and running as well so those will be my challenges. I used to race criteriums so the bike is my comfort zone and will be where I have to be the most patient. I've raced about a dozen races so far which were a combination of sprint/oly and one HIM last year in Miami.

Looking forward to meeting the group.
  • I'm 39 and live in Lancaster, PA with my wife, Dana, and daughters Abbey (8) and Callie (6).  This is my 6th year doing tris.  I've done 5 HIMs, working my way up to my first IM.  I love the idea of continuing to push out the definition of "far" and have really enjoyed the journey of getting here, however my golf game has suffered!  Looking forward to meeting everyone in person!

  • I'm 41 and live in Vancouver BC (CANADA) with my fiancee, Alexis. This is my second IM in as many years. Almost didn't make it as I was hit by a truck while riding 8 weeks ago. I've done 1 HIM (Oliver, BC). Just started running in Dec 08. Just started swimming in Sept 2010 and am self taught. Looking forward to meeting you all in person and at the dinner.
  •  Hello all!! This is my first IM and my first race this year, and I havent done anything tri-ish since early 2000- no that isnt a typo....Currently living in the Tampa area of Florida, married for 25 years to my soulmate and have 2 daughters - 24 and 4yrs old. Family is soooooo supportive and will be out there cheering us all on on 03 Nov so make sure you flash the EN sign! See you all down at the beach.

  • I'm 40, this will be my third 140.6. This is my fifth tri season, first with EN and until now I've been self coached. My husband and 4 kids will be cheering me on from home, and I'm traveling to the race with my friend Liz. I keep saying this is my last IM, but not even my husband believes me and it's quite likely Liz will talk me into another one at some point.
Looking forward to meeting you all!
  • I am 54 years old and this will be Ironman number 4. This one will be my biggest challenge due to the fact I am going through a divorce, just moved to my new house and my world has been upside down since June. I have not posted much on here as time has been a major issue.

I did Texas this spring and it went great! A huge PR with the the new EN training plan. I am looking for another PR on what looks to be a little bit of an easier course. I will be doing this Ironman with my younger brother, it will be his first. I look forward to meeting other EN peeps.

  • Hi Everyone,
I'll be 39 mid November, I'm a former hockey player turned into endurance junkie as of 2006. Raced 5km races up to ultras, 100 milers (and everything in-between). 2009 turned multi-sport, couldn't swim and hadn't rode a bike in 15 years... : ) It's been an interesting few years, including dropping 40 lbs (from buff hockey player to bone rack looking triathlete.... : ). Raced IMCanada x2. Coached with Life-sport and Mark Allen.

My wife (Kate) and I are expecting our first little one early Feb. 2013 and we're both so excited for the new adventure. I've had a lot on my plate for 2012 and training has been a challenge, also coming off a stress fracture that had me not running for 9 weeks. I'm launching a new book 16 days before IMFL (Yes, timing not ideal). My other passions outside of IM is being a wellness doctor and inspirational speaker/author bridging Science, Spirituality and Human Potential. Excited to meet you all in PCB and have another Epic IM adventure. Enjoy the taper!
  • Hey Everybody!

I'm 42 and this is my first Ironman, although I am in my fourth year of triathlon racing. This is my second year with EN and I have raced 6 other HIM's and numerous olympic and sprint distance races. I also have done a handful of Xterra races and do a couple open water swim races each summer. I'm racing IMFL with a fraternity brother from college and a couple other elite female friends who train/race with another team, but I try not to hold that against them. I'm divorced and have a gorgeous 3yr old daughter who enjoys 5k/10k races and training runs from the vantage point of her Ironman Bob stroller. Look forward to meeting everyone and enjoying that first IM experience!
  • Greeting IMFL EN group,

I am 57 years old and a veteran to Tri's, doing my first in 1986. My husband and I have loved the sport since then, competing regularly each season over the years ( except for a couple of breaks when we had our two children 21 and 18 ... actually my husband kept on competing.. I was just too tired image ) I have dreamed of an Iron distance, my entire tri career, but this will actually be my first. I have two HIM under my belt.

I'll be wearing a Hammer Tri top ( I was too late to get the EN kit )... Would like to finish between 15.5 and 16 and have a great experience doing it.

I went to Lake Placid with a friend this year and saw many EN competitors, so I am looking forward to seeing all of you in Florida.
  • I’m 35 as of a few weeks ago. I live in Ottawa, Canada with my hubby and our two dogs.

I did my first try-tri in 2006, and fell for the sport then and there. In the summer of 2010, my hubby dared me to go all in and try Ironman, initially getting an “are you crazy/do you enjoy being married?” reaction from me. Two weeks later, I’d signed up for IMLP for July 2011 - and got my first finisher's medal. I love the process and prep involved in Ironman, adore the IM race/spectator experience, and already have IMLP in my sights for 2013, with all the other EN’rs.

I chose Florida as Ironman the Sequel (#2 for me) for 2012 to set myself up with a flat course so that I could see what I’m capable of on the bike. I’m chomping at the bit to race, I haven’t toed the line at a single event all season, it's been in "real life", so all my eggs are in the PCB basket, as it were!

I’ll be supported in PCB by my husband Sean (best Sherpa in the land) and racing with my training partner Robyn, the other half of Team Crazy Squirrel.
  • I'm 34 and live in South Jersey with my wife Nicole and 3 kids.  IMFL is my couch to IM race in 17 mos.  Started being productive June 2011.  First sprint tri was August and did HIM Poconos on a whim last year.  While finishing the race would be the accomplishment, I'd like to put up a decent time so I can improve on that next year at IMLP.

  • Hi everybody. I'm 35 years old and live in New York City with my lovely and patient wife Marion. I have done sprints, an Olympic, and an HIM, but this will be my first IM! I was active when I was younger but I spent most of my 20s and early 30s engaging in endurance events related to night-life and partying as oppose to triathlons. About a year and a half ago, in a decision to embrace a healthier lifestyle, my good friend and fellow EN member John Withrow convinced me to sign up for a 10K race, even though I had not run more than 1/2 a mile in 10 years. Little did I know that he had "incepted" me because 6 months later (after running my first half marathon), I suddenly owned a tri bike and was signing up for my first sprint!! I'm not fast but what I don't have in speed, I make up for in heart! Also, like Withrow, I will be racing in the Team Reserve Aid kit in support of our troops. I am very excited for this event and can't wait to meet everybody - good luck to all!!!
