  • Olivia here; signing in from Denver, CO.

The A-#1 motivator for this race is to mark the anniversary of my horrendous face plant in a parking lot in Moab, UT on May 1, 2009 following an unexpected total blacking out. I remember laying in the hospital at 11:30 that night realizing first, how messed up my face and teeth were, and second, how totally messed up it seemed that exactly one year from that date I would be doing Ironman in St. George, UT. There's something whacky about that in a cosmic sense. There will forever be something for me about 5/1 in Utah....

    Goals? Do I hafta?

My goal, with the understanding that this is a new course against which I have no benchmarks in the form of the other women in my AG who I seem to race with frequently whether I race in CO or TX or ID, is to finish in the top 10 of my AG. In my prior IMs I've finished 24th, and 20th. I feel like a considerable finish place leap against my peers is within reason.

WRT time, I struggle with whether focusing on a time goal is reasonable at all. I definitely don't know that I want to do that until I get out on the course and ride around during our gathering at end of Feb. If I had to swag it, I'd say I'm targeting the 11:10-11:15 range. That would represent an IM distance improvement of :25-ish from IMCDA in 2008.

Ugh! Hopefully I'm not being a moron by trying to be logical. Double ugh....it's accountability time....

No matter what happens though...the confronting of the May 1 spirits will be my ONE THING!

(PS - Hope more folks can join us in St. George 2/25-2/28!!)
  • I'm in for IM SG. IM #6 for me.

Goals are to keep improving upon prior years. As always, hard to tell when the courses are all different. 10 minutes of swim improvement would be nice after last year's debacle in the CdA lake. Better aero on the bike this year should translate into faster speed with the same power output. I'm starting to run more hilly courses in prep for SG.

End of the day it's all about fun.

  • In!  IM #3 for me.

Goals?  First two IM's were high stress and intense.  Only goal this time is to have FUN!  Intensity dialed down, fun factor dialed way, way up.  I am approaching this day as nothing more than a "long, catered training day."  No time, AG, etc.  I am going to follow The Plan and EN race day protocol and high five every volunteer I can along the way.

And for those interested and as Olivia noted below, there are a few EN folks going for a course preview weekend February 25 through 28.  Travel Thursday, bike course Friday, run course Saturday and swim somewhere in between.  If the water is warm enough, of course.  PM me if you are interested in joining.  Totally laid back weekend with high mojo!

    Rock on!

    John

  • In! #2 for me.

I'd like to hold 8:30-8:45 miles steady on the marathon. We'll see how that goes. Otherwise, a solid bike time would be great.
  • In... #1 for me. Goal: "I just want a little taste of the glory, just to see what it tastes like". On that note, I hear they cheer the loudest for the first and the last finisher. I plan to be one of those two people.
  • This will be number 3.....   goal, hum, well originally I wanted to improve my time, but this may not be the course to do that (previous 2 were both CdA).  I guess I'll have to wait until after John and Olivia do the recon of the course in Feb and try to get a comparison to CdA.

  • I am in this will make #9 for me-my goal is to move up within my age group 45-49, I have finished in the top 1/3rd, would like to move into the top 1/4. The bike looks tough-one long climb, will be interested in hearing the reports. Tough to train in Wisconsin this time of year.
  • IM #1.

I currently reside in Dallas, Tx.
I chose this course simply because it's a first timer, just like me!
My goals are to survive, flourish and finish with a smile on my face!
I despise cold water swims, so that will be a biggie for me, unless someone decides to heat the water up just for me!
I'm bringing my g/f along with me, but this will be #3 for her (AZ, FL).
Any intel on how I should attack this course will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks.
    John
  • Steve and I are from San Ramon, California in Nor Cal and are racing IMSG too. Crazy amount of IM races for us. This will be #13 for me and it will be #21 for Steve. CRAZY! But we love the lifestyle and enjoy the whole process.

Goal wise , hhmmm, we chuckled over that this morning. The main ones we both said was to get to the race as fit and strong as possible and injury free. If we do that we will feel like we have won already. For Steve he always hopes for a Kona slot but realizes that it is often out of his control. He just loves to race and is happy with every finish. He will just race the best he can and see what happens. So far that seems to be working for him;-). As for me, hhmm, good Lord, I would LOVE to race with Steve in Kona. Who knows what will happen on race day and who will be racing in my AG but I will give it a valiant effort and be THaRilled if he and I can race together in October! That would be amazing! And if not no biggie as I am an awefully good chearleader in Kona. Lot's of practice!

Looking forward to meeting you all in a few months! I am enjoying the journey and I hope you are too! We are all blessed to have such strong bodies! When you get worried or overwhelmed just remember that!

  • One of these days I'll post a mug shot with my name.  IMSG will be my 4th IM.  I consider every IM finish a gift that must be cherished.  My last IM was my most challenging as I couldn't keep anything down on the run; the temporay dark moments that only disappeared with perserverence.  Anyway, honestly I'm hoping for an AG kona slot but you never know how it will pan out on race day.  The hills will be an ally for me as hills are all I know.  I livesouth of Moab, Utah at 6200 ft--lots of mountains and beautiful red sand stone canyons.  I recognize much of our group as we have been in touch through the OS OCT group (incredible people) but there are a few new faces.  I look forward to sharing the journey with you.

  • I will be at St George, and I will be traveling from Montgomery Village, Maryland (about 30min outside of DC when there is no traffic).
This will be my 2nd Ironman and I am super excited to meet R&P in person and some of the team there.

I have several goals depending on what the day brings.
Lake Placid was my first Ironman and due to poor nutrition (decided to try something totally new at the race, imagine that!), I dragged myself across the finish line at about 15:45; The entire marathon was pretty much a death march (5:45). My buddy and I were thinking about during LP again but due to life and other stuff we decided STG would fit better. I know having a time goal is not very unEN like, but I was hoping to go under 12 hours this time around; but now looking at how tough the run is going to be I will be happy with under 13 hours. Anyway here are my goals for the day depending how it goes:
-Best day goal: finish between 12-13 hours and beat my buddy.
-If things aren't going super goal: beat my buddy (he has always been faster then me...)
-If things are not going well goal: try and sabotage my buddy's race and finish ahead of him with a smile image
-If things are going badly: Finish the race standing up.

Anyway, I am excited to meet everyone and can't wait to see what 2 years of EN training will bring me at St George.

    Wei
  • I'm there!

    Currently training in NJ.

    This will be IM #4.

Goals are as follows: No ambulance, smile, finish... and try to run the whole marathon. Time isn't that important, just running. (and just running will also fix any time problems I think I might have.)

Can't wait to see everyone there!

  • I'm in. Number 6 with last 2007 while 4th year med student so my life is very different now. 80 hour work weeks, 30 hour shifts. If a baby is crashing in the NICU, that bike or run or swim doesn't get done. My diet can suck and sometimes even when I'm not working I don't have the energy to do anything but go home, eat, and go to bed. So goals:

    1. Finish- enjoy what promises to a be a beautiful course in a what is supposed to be a really pretty area of the country.

    2. Use proper race execution to use whatever fitness I show for race day with to maximize my results. A sub 13 would be amazing but really I want a properly paced bike that will allow me to run to the best of my measly ability.

    3. Show up excited and ready to race 5 weeks later for Hawaii 70.3 and go around 5:30.

    Lynne

  • I will be there. IM#5 for me.

I'm a big guy so hills and I do not always cooperate. For some strange reason, I love climbing mountains though. Does not mean I'm fast at it but I do enjoy it.

My swim will stink no matter what so no goals there. Best bike to date has been 5:30. Not sure I can better that at IMSG but it is good to have goals. As far as the run goes, I would love to run the whole thing. During IM Arizona, I felt so good getting off the bike and I was moving along so nicely on the run. Next thing I know, I develop a blister the size of Texas on the bottom of my left foot. So, I am hoping for NO blisters this time.

I love the St George area so I am really looking forward to this IM.

    Good luck everyone.

  • This will be IM#8. Coming in off a 21' PR at the Silverman in November and would like to have a similar effort at SG, as the courses are a bit similar (though Silverman has a wee bit more elevation gain on the bike and run!). However, OS training has been spotty due to work & schedule conflicts and a bit of a hamstring problem that never quite goes away. At my advanced age (53 next month), the bottom line goal is to not get slower!!  Looking forward to diving in and ramping up!

  • So I count 15 so far? 16 for Mr. Carrie Chavez, who I know is racing also. Anyone else? Tom, we'll get the Brothers Brasher involved somehow. They can join us for the team dinner, I'll staple an EN visor to their heads, etc. It's just a matter of time before all are assimilated...

Joanne and Riley are coming out with me. Gonna do the Beverly Hillbillys thing with our trailer, camping somewhere

  • Not sure if you have accounted for them, but I see them active on the Members list but I don't think they log in too often.  EN NorCal guys Patrick James and Simon Mutlu.

Lotsa multi-x finishers in the group.  Looking forward to meeting all of you.

    John

  • I'm out for IMSG unfortunately ... life as thrown me some curve balls and motivation to be on a "structured plan" is low after IMAZ. Just having fun right now - starting the EN mountain biking contingent here in NorCal. Hope I get into Leadville 100!

  • Hi All:

In case you missed this:  http://endurancenation.us.dnnmax.co...fault.aspx

    Have a great race!

    John

  • Hi...sorry for the late post.  Although the NCAL weather has not been cooperating, I'm in for IMSG...don't know how by body is going to react.  My first goal is to "toe the line" by not injuring myself.  This is the first race in ~4 years where I didn't have an injury. Surgery one year ago and per MD orders, I've worked hard on overall strength...I'm ready to go.  My second goal is for me to understand and adapt to the EN training.  Last goal is for me to have some fun... by keeping a good and realistic balance between wife, kids, work and training!

  • Joseph, where are you located? Somewhere here in NorCal?

    tom
  • Hey Tom....I believe I'm pretty close to you....I'm live in San Ramon and I'm a member of FMRC...listed under Joe Anderson

  • This will be # 16 for me.

I've never been to Vegas. I figure I'll do a little racing in at St. George then I'll do a little relaxing in Vegas.

I have had good swim splits and good bike splits, but I have always wanted that "under 4 hours" in an Ironman run split. This may not be the best course to reach that goal, but that's the goal.
  • I'm a EN newbie (hence just finding this thread for the first time tonight...haha) and this will be my first Ironman. So, as for goals, I'd like to finish the thing in a happy enough state to not want to write off cycling and swimming forever the next day ; ) I'm looking forward to taking this journey with many of you in just a few weeks!
  • I new to EN and am doing IMSG as well.  Live in Wayland, MA

where I juggle training with work and family (4 kids ages 8-16).

My only other IM event was the 1987 Cape Cod Ironman when I was 27.  Decided to sign up for St. George to celebrate the year in which I turn 50 (on 10-10-10!).  Have not done a triathlon since 1987, so I am essentially a first timer.

Goal for the event is to finish.  My best guess is it will be ~14 hours, but I'll be happy with anything under 17.

I have been mountain biking in St. George a couple of times, so know the area is beautiful.  Hope to enjoy the scenery.

  • Just joined EN. Racing in IMSG May'11 (my first IM). Looking forward to it!
