IM St. George Transition Week Thread
Let's get this party started! Well, sorta.
Been an ugly OS this year for me. Very emotional life upheavals threw wrenches in my spokes more than once. Thought I could just HTFU and just "git 'r dun" but just couldn't. Starting the 12 week IM Plan at a deficit but I am fine with that. This year I will dial down the intensity and dial up the fun all while getting the IM Plan done, RR's completed and race day execution nailed.
Per Coach P's vid about different ideas for this week, I think I am going to focus on swimming. Did a Masters swim last week and it was ugly. Need to work on that.
Anyone else actually doing Transition Week? Or is it just me?

John:
You'e not alone, I'm doing a transition week, this week too. I'm literally toasted as I pushed every workout from last week as I was under the impression it was our last official OS week. But, I'm a little confused on our training plans as they don't reflect the transition week and the beginning of the IS. I'll swim tomorrow for the first time since September. I'm planning on drills and easing into things as I'm just getting over a rotator cuff tear that is almost 100% healed. What does a typical IS week look like?
We posted it as a thread in this IMSG Group/Forum
In any case, I'm going to transition like mad this week. Frankly, I'll be shocked if I break a sweat.
Time to get back in the pool for the first time since July, as well. That'll be a hit to my system.
In fact, I was so excited to start that I bailed on my last 30/30s on Saturday in favor of a great XC ski outing! Then did a nice hilly run on snow covered streets on Sunday. No threshold goals...mainly wanted to do 75 mins of just running (not dying) on the hills. Today I got in the swimming pool for the first time since August. I didn't sink!! Good luck on that front Stephen...no sinking!
I loved that video from Coach P. I don't think it would have been nearly as effective on the "REST UP" message had he not done it in the hush of the night with his glass of port! Message heard loud and clear with me!!
Also using this week to get my poop in a group with PT battery changes, new running shoe purchases, Infinit orders, and changing the tire on the trainer which now has a big blow out on the side of it!
Have a great transition
Yeah Baby, this is a sweet recovery week. I'm tyring to just hold back and enjoy it. I almost forgot what it's like to bike and run without discomfort.
I kind of had a forced transition at the end of last week. Came down with a nasty bug that had me on the couch both Saturday and Sunday.... Still not up to snuff so am following the transition week protocol as I recover. Will be ready to hit it next week.... 12 weeks till "go time"... yikes
Thanks for the heads up, Stephen. I have been restraining myself from pinging RandP directly for the Plan. They know we are here waiting but I get impatient sometimes.
Took Monday off, swam 2,700 yards with Masters yesterday and really focused on form and efficiency with the coach and less on speed. Off to ride with Tom Glynn up a loal mountain at EZ pace and then swim again later.
Mark, feel better soon.
87 days until race day!
Today I'm sitting here wondering why my arms and shoulders are sore. Duh! The return to the pool is not without some adjustment. Some of my friends from the pool thought they were seeing a ghost this morning when I showed up. Oh yeah, and they still think I'm out of my mind for only just now starting to swim. Followed the swim with a nice 2.5 mile easy run. Used the new Woodway treadmills that we have at my gym. OMG! Like running on a cloud!
Mark, definitely make rest your priority this week. This is probably the most perfect time to catch a bug. THis way you can just focus on managing that out of your system.
Under 90 days!!!???? Eeks!
John, you're stud, I maybe got in 1200 meters (slow swimming with drills) Tuesday and tomorrow morning I'm hoping for about 1600 meters (still slow with drills) but I'm just easing into it coming off a rotator cuff tear--nearly healed without surgery. Too much wake boarding this summer with a great tumble in the water led to the shoulder tear, plan stupido but it comes with the turf in water sports.
Olivia, tell me how your swim progression goes. Don't you come from a competive swim background, high school or college? I'm not too worried about your progression there as you'll progress quickly.
I am with you Mark, picked up a bug. Zero activity since last Thursday
. I feel pretty good now but can't kick the cough, it has kept me up two nights in a row. Maybe I will try to get a run in and see if that helps.
Anyone have a crystal ball and can tell me what is in store for next week? Are we going to be testing? I thought we would test before we left the out season plan. I did look ahead on my plan the last week of the out season was testing. My plan (beginner) had a 10k vdot test the last week.
Next week for me is down at the magic kingdom. I will bring the bike and get out for early morning swim, bike, or run. Diet and sleep habits will be a little off but it will be fun.
Sorry you guys are sick. I had it a couple of weeks ago and it lasted 10 days. UGH! Hope you guys get better sooner.
Did the ride yesterday and really took my time. Only got part way up the mountain and IF for 1:40 ride was .767. :-) Then scrambled to Masters swim and could tell immediately tell I was sore from yesterday. Plus, I think I bonked cuz I didn't eat much that morning. No energy. Only lasted ~ 1,800 yards and stopped. Plus, I don't really "have to" work hard this week.
Gonna do the sorta "Longish" run today instead of Sunday. Slow, easy local loop for 75 minutes.
Hope everyone is enjoying the down time.
Hi IMSG peeps! Just checking in here to say Hi! Looking forward to meeting you all in a few months.
Carrie( and Steve)
Tom Bro. sick, what? Let it ride and be smart to get yourself 100% again. Are you headed for Magic Mountain?
I'm still whimpy on the swim trying to baby my rotator cuff, a whopping 1800 meters this morning-mainly balance drills that I'm only doing to slow me down--injury prevention. So far, the shoulder is holding up, even with a few 25's, 50's, and 100's at fast pace so I'm encouraged. I hate swimming slow as I don't like to get passed by fellow swimmers in neighboring lanes. Bad ego issues there, I know
Yes, Steve and I are both racing!
We are so blessed to be able to do this together. My folks are flying out from Mass. to California and doing the drive to SG with us. They will stay out here 3 weeks total. They have been to almost all of our races. They are super supportive and love to watch Madison(5) for us! They are so excited for this trip that they started a diet and exercise program. They have each lost a ton of weight. My Dad started with 1 sit up Jan 1st and is up to 15 now each night. So inspiring. he says:" we feel great, not sure if we will sign up for the IM ;-) So cute, thay always crack me up!
Anyone else racing as a couple? having any family come out?

Hi Carrie & Steve,
I will be racing with my g/f at IMSG. I plan on seeing her at the start and then watching her take off from there. She's the veteran with this being her 3rd IM. It's my first so I'm just looking forward to battling all the hills and finishing under the time limit.
John
My daughter is excited because the house we rented has a movie theatre room, trampoline and pool!! Plus one other child will be in our house. They will have a blast!
When my daughter was 4 years old she cheered at IMLP in the POURING rain all day. She cheered for everyone! Jumped in puddles and just had fun. Such a professional IM supporter.

Support, well I guess I have some support going down, but it is support only to a point.
I have three brothers and two brothers in law racing. Both sets of my parents will be there as well as spouses. Unfortunately, I am not the favorite son. If I am behind I will get all kinds of support. If I happen to be ahead of a favorite son or ahead of someone’s spouse my only support will be my wife, but that is more then enough for me.
All six of us our first time at the IM distance. A few of the guys are runners and have done a few marathons, I have not. We are all really excited for our first IM.
