When I pre-rode the Lac Superior portion on Friday, in-and-of itself, I (another flatlander) didn't find it too troublesome. However, in the context of the whole course, and whole day, and especially after the first lap, that last portion was downright CRUEL! And I too saw several people walking up the Lac climb, as well as zig-zagging across the road (which is the stage usually right before getting off and walking).
When I finally post my RR, you'll see that my rear derailleur was adjusted after pre-riding the Highway 117 section on Saturday (after Lac Superior on Friday), and the jackarse adjusted me out of my 28tooth gear on my 11-28 cassette. Wasn't too happy about that at all!
