IMSG 2010 week 1 of 12 - MOJO thread
Good morning everyone!
Week one is here already and I really can't believe it. I hope you are all feeling good about starting this push to May 1st. How about we start weekly training threads for swim/bike/run separately and this one for social stuff! Sound good!
Steve and I are headed to the track for a speed sesssion. We host these every Tuesday am for our team here in Nor Cal. 5K test done last week already.
Post away!

Week 1 is, so far, filled with nothing but WIN and Awesome. Monday's run test got me a spiffy new vDot of 41. Today's bike-shovel-the-sidewalk brick gave me a new FTP of 245. Yea!
I'm a little concerned about the longish bike rides this weekend, but that will be more of a mental test than anything else.
Week 1, baby, why are you so good to me?!

I was totally fired up for the start of the Ironman prep; I have been feeling good after the OS and during the Power clinic. However this get 40+ inches of snow in 5 days thing is killing my mojo. I haven't really been able to run much outside for the last 2 weeks (due to all the snow we have been getting before the 40+ inches). Getting to a dreadmill at the gym and going to the pool is out because everything is closed. I am trying not to freak out since I know the OS and the Power Clinic has been doing me good, but it is hard. At least I am still crushing it on the trainer, right? Who would have thought Maryland would get this much snow.
Can't wait to meet everyone in 12 weeks.

Wei, I'll bet you're gonna be tough as nails from the cycling focused weeks. All of us know the bike is the most important discipline as we spend the most time out on the bike and having a strong bike lends itself to an easier run. Come off fresh on the bike and you'll be running down lots of peole, time to play pac-man (For you youngins that is one of the old classic video games).
Olivia (Colorado) and I (Utah) had our 4 feet of snow last week and are now only able to see the roads clear and a tiny bit of melt. It's great to see the positive vibs of excitement about going into actual race prep mixed with terror about the increase of mileage in our workouts.
Dan, congratulations with the testing results, you've worked hard and certainly deserve them.
I too look forward to training with all you and meeting you in about 11 weeks. We're all going to be fine athlete speimens coming May 1st.
Let's say by the time that snow got here we may have gotten about 4 inches. Yeah...two days worth of snow for not much on the ground. The ski areas are BUMMING! This weekend may changed that. We'll see though.
Stephen, thanks for the kind words. I don't know about being as tough as nails; maybe as stupid as a door nob for all the time that I am spending on the trainer. Well, I have not yet spend more then 1.75 hours on it yet, but this weekend I am thinking about 3 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday. But thanks anyway. Oh yeah, and I know that bike is where it is at; but it is mentally tough for me not to think about the fact that I am not doing all I can to prepare since I can't get any run workouts in. But I do hear what you are saying and I am trying really really hard to believe in it.
I was able to skip out of work during lunch today to get in a 90min run outside; I work in downtown dc and most of the sidewalks were surprisingly clear. This is the first time that I am able to get in a real run in in the last 2-3 weeks. I tried to do the long run workout, but it was harder then I can run. the z3 and z2 stuff were all about 15sec short and the z3 stuff felt like z4. I am hoping that now I can run more consistently my run will bounce back nicely.
Anyway, have a good training weekend!
Time to check out the opening ceremony.

Glad you've been able to run outside. That's got to do wonders for you mentally!
This weekend, if we'd stayed in Denver I'd be riding outside. Instead we came up to Breckenridge so DH can go XC skiing and snowboarding. Soooo, I'll be hopping on the trainer. I could have opted to not come up, but I figure I gotta get the SAUs when I can. Unfortunately I'll miss out on the XC skiing...that would be a huge deposit of SAUs. I just don't have that much energy to do that + ride + run. I tried fitting it all in during my prep for IMCDA in 2008. I was shelling myself constantly.
Eleven weeks, my friends!
