48 on race day
Chattanooga, TN
Goals: NO nutrition issues
IM #3 ( FL '08, AZ '09) All under the tutelage of EN.
Kathy Nelson
46 race day
Minneapolis, MN
1st IM
Goals: Finish; not bonking on the run.
Experience: Began tri experience at age 40 because of a running injury that forced me into the pool. Taught myself to swim using TI recources, then jumped into a masters program. Did my first tri that summer. Have done sprint, oly and HIM distances. Have completed TCM and Chicago marathons. Favorite part of SBR=S and B
Nemo Brauch
Age: 43
Nags Head, NC
Goals: Originally the goal was to go Sub-13. But currently nursing a calf injury and so my new goal is just to get to the starting line healthy so I can enjoy the entire day on the course with all the EN Chickas!
3rd IM (IMFL 2006, IMWI 2008), tons of HIM's, Oly's, Marathons, and one Ultra Marathon
Beth Schwndt
Age: 32
Chicago, IL
This is my first Ironman.
Goal: To finish. And if I can do that with a bike split under 6:20 (and not bugger my run), that would be extra awesome.
Linda Patch
Age: 52 and still crushing it.
Lexington, MA
Ironman #3
IMFL in 2006 and 2008. '08 with EN.
I have done 50+ triathlons over the years. Love the short, the long, the in-between.
Goal for this Ironman is to be in as fit and as ready as I was in '08. To train and race as super smart as I can. With the eye of the tiger on race day, the rest will take care of itself and maybe even lead to a sub-13.
36 on race day
Wheaton, IL (about 30 miles west of Chicago)
I'm still working out my goals for this race - we'll see where my fitness is at mid-summer. For now, I want to stay healthy and finish (running the whole marathon is already in my mind from all the EN Kool-aid I've been drinkin).
My wife Kim and I are both doing this race and it'll be each of our first IM. Got into this tri thing in the fall of '08 after years of sitting on the couch. Did a sprint race with the goal of just being able to run the full 5K. It crushed me - awesome! I saw an IM video on youtube and thought - these people are stoopid crazy - perfect. Did a HIM in '09 signed up for the full monte in '10. Very excited about this and glad to have the haus and the deep resumes of the EN chikas above to show me the way.
Trevor Garson
Cedar Rapids, IA
Age 25 on raceday
Goal: To run the entire marathon. I'll be happy just to finish, and sure I'd love to go sub-12, but I'd be stoked if I make it through the entire run in something that loosely resembles a 'run'.
Race resume: This will be my first Ironman, worked my way up from Sprints, Olys and Half during my first Tri season last year and ran my first marathon this past January.
Name: Dave Boyle
Location: Southern NH
Age: 36 (on race day)
Resume: 3rd IM, 08 IMFL 09 IMUSA. Bunch of half and shorter
Goal? Same as always, finish smiling. The real goal is to pace myself better on the bike so I can do a bit better on the run. In Florida came close, slowed down at like mile 19-20 but still finished pretty strong (low 11 time). Placid was another story, wheels had come off during training (bike crash during first race rehersal meant _zero_ bike mojo coming into the race) and just stopped being able to run at mile 20. Placid just wasn't a good day. In prep doing a few half marathons and half irons as build up and confidence building. Had a great season ending marathon last year to get things back on track. Looking forward to having the (what seems like) dozens of en ladies (including my wife) doing the race. Oh yeah and the pink speedo on Rich.
Leigh Boyle
Southern NH
Age: 31
This will be IM #5 (3rd with the hubby) with lots of race distances in between. 8th year in the tri-game.
Goals: PR marathon split 4:30:xx (based on current vdot + nailing EN ninja execution guidance
). Will mean hard work + no more goofing around and winging my nutrition strategy.
Age: 35
Gurnee, IL (north Chicago suburb)
Race resume: IM #2 (IMLou in 2008), 2009 was focus on 70.3 with goal of qualifying for Clearwater (accomplished)
Goal: TBD (just returned to running after pelvic stress fracture sidelined me for 8 weeks - once I get back to full-on run training I should have an idea of what I can accomplish in Madison, but I plan to set some pretty lofty goals)
Kris Frazier
Age race day: F40-44.... 43
Louisville, KY
IM #3 for me- IMLOU'08, IMLOU'09 so this is first mass swim start (and first wetsuit legal swim- woohoo)
Goals: Train hard, train smart and enjoy the fruits on race day with 17 other supa cool EN chickas!
Michele Cellai
AGE: 42 on race day
Wayland, MA
Triathlon History: Started in 1994 and have done all sorts of tri combos and distances. Love it all but always need to decide if this is a year for long course or fun and short course. 2008 Plymouth Iron Distance Triathlon (inaugural race) is my only iron experience (lots of HIM). Very small race and finished 2nd in AG.
GOALS FOR IMWI: Better my iron time. I was 13:46:XX, and better my marathon time, only stand alone ever was 5:12:XX. Beat those times and still finish with a smile, no vomiting. Execute race with EN guidance.
Age 34 on race day
Alexandria, Va
This will be Ironman #4 for me! (08 IMUSA, )( 09 IMUSA and IMFL)
Goal: The most important goal is to enjoy the journey and execute a great race. This will be my first IM training and racing with power. Based on past experience I would love to go 11:30:XX with a sub 4:00 marathon. Happy training, here is to staying healthy and injury free!
35 on race day.
Arlington, MA
IM #5 (IMLP 08, 09, IMWI 09, Plymouth IDT 08)
One IM race this season as opposed to 2 the last 2 years. Tis will be much more reasonable. Looking forward to really improving the swim, can't get much slower! Sub 11 goal.
Hi there -- 6th Ironman. This will be 4th IM Moo. Thought would retire from IM after 2008 PR by an hour. Now the pressure is on this year.
Live in Pewaukee WI 50 miles east of Madison and 20 west of Milwaukee.
Looking forward to meeting folks. Feel free to ask me any questions about race/course
Oh I didn't see the very first email.
I'm 47 and my stretch goal is Operation Daylight...finish while it is still light.
I went 12:48 in 2008 after a 13:51 in 07. I'd like to get as close to 12 hours as possible. It can be done. I biked at 6:38 and ran a 4:35 (both half hour drops from year prior) so I'm thinking all the EN work works will allow me to keep getting faster.
42 on race day
Victor, NY
My second IM
This race wasn't even on my radar until the promise of Coach Rich in a pink speedo if 10 EN chicas signed up came along.
Goal: Beat my DH's only IM time of 13:47 and declare myself the Fastest Ironman of our household. This is funny because if DH were to do an IM today, he'd probably throw down a 10:30. However, he's not stepping up to any IM start line anytime soon so I'm excited to claim this title.
Heather La Freniere, Evanston, IL
41 on race day
2nd IM (MOO '08), countless Oly & HIMs, 8 marathons, first Oly in 1994 caught the bug. Love to race but am a former UW-Badger swimmer turned runner so I have always 'faked' the bike, which is possible at the shorter distances. Have spent the last 3 years 'learning' how to ride - first volume and now intensity.
Had a fabulous first IM in '08 - 11'38 as follows: one hour on the swim, 6'25 on the bike and a 4 hour marathon. My goal is to shave the bike time while still leaving me some legs to shave the run time too. Seriously trying to grab one of the 3 Kona AG slots which means I need to be sub-11'15 to even have a chance, based on the last 5 years race results.
Look forward to meeting everyone!!!
39 on race day
This is my first IM Raced a HIM at Steelhead last year. Many Oly. and sprint Tris.
Goals
Execute a great race and see if I can get the best time my fitness gives me.
New York, NY
Age on race day: 41
Goal: To run at least half of the run and improve on my overall IM time. I'm aiming for 14:30 or so.
Ironman #5 (07 CDA; 08 USA; 09 USA & FLA)
Tony, 38, Northern Virginia (Alexandria), 2nd year with EN.
Goals: Redeem myself for horrific DNF at IMC last year. Not be in fear of the T2 cut-off point at any time. Run the whole marathon. Not show up on race day with 35# (16 kg) of excess adipose tissue on my frame.
Race Resume: IM-Moo will be 5th IM; 2009 - IMC (DNF), 2008 - IMAZ (16:36), IMUSA (16:07), IMFL (16:51)
Rick Olsen
Glenbeulah, WI @ 90 miles from Madison. 47 on race day.
This is my first IM. Have done HIM and Oly's. Goal is to finish the race with good execution.
Bob Arsenault
Hampton N.H Will be 47 on race day. 2nd year with EN
This will be my 2nd IM, did LP in 2009, 11:03:00
Would like to go sub 10:30:00, would love to go sub 10:20:00, would be ectactic with a Kona slot. Have done 1 HIM, 3 oly's and several sprints over the past 4 years.
Really enjoyed going out to Madison last fall and cheering the gang on, very excited to be racing this year and sharing this experience with so many EN folks.
Chicago, IL
I'll be 28 on race day (but of course, per USAT 29 is my age for racing...)
This is my first IM. I did Steelhead last year and decided that I prefer long-course over short, by far.
Goal: Finish under 12 hours. The EN mojo definitely makes me feel confident about being able to do this!
I'm in!
Dave Williams
I'll be 35 on race day. I live and work in Minneapolis, MN.
My goal is to execute the race the EN way and finish smiling.
This will be my first IM. I did my first HIM last year in Hawaii. I'll do another HIM this year in June. For about 6 or 7 years I have done shorter triathlons, 4 marathons and a bunch of other running races.
This will be my second season with EN and I am excited to continue training the EN way.
Age 49 by day of race
Goal is to finish. I have attempted this event twice before and the second time got to the midpoint on the marathon. Hope is to finish and inspire my kids to reach for their goals.
thanks Nemo for showing me this thread!
Marianne Park, 45 - 49 AG, me? 47 on race day.
my kids point out I am three years away from 50 and I say "oh yeah, then race me this weekend!"
I have five of them and going for my
5th Ironman at IM WI!
(IMFLA 06, IMKY 07, IMCDA 08, IMUSA 09) the last four with EN so I am super happy to be reunited with the coaches on the course and with other EN athletes!
I have no athletic background except for the last 6 years when I began this great journey into tri life and have also done 5 marathons, HIMs and even mt biking! my favorite part of the SBR? = the RUN! and especially miles 18 - 26!!
I have also been injured with annoying piriformis, shoulder tendonitis, low iron and thyroid issues, all minor but downright irritating!! so I have been "standing down", going to PT, no racing and fingers crossed... and toes! I will be fighting fit by race day!
so my goals are?
1. Stay healthy so I can run in miles 18 - 26!!
my fastest IM run has been 4:40, so I would love to beat that! Historically I place higher in my AG on the run, so if my legs are healthy, want to continue with that. I will gut out anything during the run!!!
2. Get off the dang bike faster!
my fastest bike is about 7:30 so come on?? under 7? 6:45?
not sure what to tell you on why I am working a "day job" out there on the bike, but really last year I was fatigued from iron/thryoid and didn't even know it!! I am not good on climbing or fast descents!!! and I picked WI, I know..
but I love to ride my bike and see diff parts of the country.
3. My swim is also slow!!
but I don't get scared and I kick back too!
so on a perfect day in perfect condiitons a sub 14 would be sweet, 13:30 even better and when I go sub 13! I believe everybody in WI will hear me scream with delight!!
4. I am also doing Janus Charity Challenge for Greg Miller Ministries after a recent mission trip to Guatemala, so I am really excited to tie my training into a great charity!!!
Rick Hochstetler
