  • Hi guys...here I am! Doing waaaay better this week than last. Seriously thought I was going to have to bag this race. But man, what a difference a week makes. It was some major whack-e-ness that I have yet to understand, and that was a good wake up call to really listen to what my body and mind are telling me as I prep for this race. It makes sense that I might handle this stuff differently given all the junk my body has had to handle this year. I'm hoping that was just a speed bump on my path. All set (well close) for the drive out to SG on Thursday.

I plan to roll in around 6:30 PM Thursday. I'll meet you all at 7:20 on Friday AM at SBUX.

Benja sounds fab for dinner Friday!
  • Rich:
I guess I'm bagging the Thursday evening ride idea as we'll be hitting the same part of the course on Friday. So, I too will plan on meeting the main group at 7:20 AM at Starbucks. I would have been happy just doing 2 loops and I wasn't really looking at doing a century+ but I guess I'm in. I'll likely take the first loop easy as suggested.
Yes, there is a time change between Utah and Cali. You're an hour later in Cali, in other words our 8:00 PM is your 7:00 PM. I like the Benja... idea on Friday night.

My cell is 435-459-2468. I look forward to seeing everyone. The high temps are forecasted to be in the high 50's. There's a 40% chance of rain on Satuday (no worries runners can deal with rain). Bring all the gear and be prepared, just in case. My wife and I are staying with her friend in the neighboring town of Washington.

Few other eating options, FYI: Cafe Rio Mex. Grill, Scaldoni's (Italian), Olive Garden, and Lucky Buffet (Asian).
  • I am excited for the trip. I have been trying without success to talk my brother into not riding the entire bike course. They are planning on a very long slow day. It will be more like 8-9 hours on the bike. If it makes more sense for the group to ride the loop section a couple of times do not let what I am doing change that.

I still have a bug I have not been able to kick. I will ride with them very slow and probably only do the lake portion and one loop.

Benja sounds good for dinner... which SBUX?
  • Rich and Olivia:

I actually meet up with you at 8:00 AM at Sand Hollow Reservoir, T1 as I'm staying east of St. George closer to T1 than Starbucks. Maybe we all need to rethink the ride and settle for one loop from and back to T1. I guess we can talk more about that monring.

Tom & Allan, it should be a sweet recon and group bonding experience and to think we get to have Rich with us, Cool! Yeah, I'm training with my coach this weekend. Who gets to say that image.

See you all within 48 hours. Be safe on the marathon drives, etc.
  • Cool. I'm up for just about anything, other than 112 miles in 8-9hrs . And its good enough for me (and I'd argue, for you) to see all of the course ONCE, that is, to not do the loop twice. Again, my concern is that just-off-the-trainer you does the entire 112 and gets all wigged about the race. You've all still got a lot of time and miles left to do before the race. You'll be in MUCH better endurance shape come May 1 than you are now.

I've done a zillion camps on the WI and LP courses. This pre-race wig potential is always high when people commit themselves to riding the whole course, especially for first-timers. I've seen it before and have had to talk more than one camper off the ledge at about 3pm the afternoon of the ride

    The Plan:

Friday Ride: 0800 wheels up from Starbucks. We'll ride over to the start of the loop and do 1-2x, whatever you're up for. Ride is at your own pace and self supported. I figure there's gotta be a gas station, convenience store, or hot dog stand somewhere on the bike course so we'll be good.

Friday Team Dinner: 6pm, location TBD, I will post here.

Saturday Run: 0800 from the T2/Finish location, one loop of the course. Post run lunch TBD, depending on people's travel schedules.

Other: depending on when I get in on Thursday I'd like to ride the stick portion of the bike course, starting from the swim start and just doing it as an out and back. Figure I can be in SG by about 3-4p on Thursday.

    Sound good?

OK, I'm in between surgery cases so have not had a chance to look this up yet..........is there more than one Starbux in St G???  If so, which one will we meet at?  Sorry if this has already been covered.

My wife will be with me thru the weekend.  I am trying to convince her to play support vehicle for us while we are out doing the bike loop(s).  So far it is not working.  We are staying at Red Mountain Resort and she thinks she may be hiking or taking a transcendental (?sp) yoga class or just SLEEPING instead.  I will keep working on her.

    See y'all tomorrow.

  • Starbucks

We don't need no stinking support. Couple bars, baggie of drink mix in your pockets, cash, DL, CC, cell, tube, levers, CO2 and multitool.

    Ok, Ok, Ok...................HTFU right?

  • No, just don't ask your wife to spend 8hrs in the car driving 15mph . Hook her up in the spa and bank some SAU's
