Home Ironman St. George

Week 5

I was so toasted yesterday I decided to skip the bike workout.  I'm always one day ahead than what's listed on the schedule.  I'll do the long run today on the hilly course in Blanding, Utah.  I can't wait to look at the elevation stats on the Garmin after this run.  We had another 6 inches of snow last night.  Grrr...I'm ready for spring.  Next week my family will be in Escondido near San Diego for spring break.  First race simulation (The Big Brick) is scheduled for next week.  I'm ready to try this 1st test run with Infinit as race fuel (1st order pending).  How are you folks doing mentally.  By the way did you see Rich's most recent write up on IMSG, he added a few more details.  Great write up with gorgeous photos!

I can feel my fitness making big progressive leaps finally.  So, my confidence is starting to come together.  I know this EN stuff works.  ARE YOU FOLKS HAVING A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE?  I've also been reading and listening to audio archives under race execution in the traininng map section (it's the map under one of the main top tabs, it may not be called training map but I'm sure you know what I referring to).  I've found the race execution section filled with all the good critical stuff I need to be thinking about in prepartion for race day.

This EN journey has been a great ride!!!  You guys are all part of that, thanx!!!

  • I am also a day ahead... I had my long run yesterday. I ended up with about 1000 feet of climbing. It was clear when I started and then a very pleasant misty rain for the last half of the run. I felt strong. This morning I woke up and tried to run, it took a good mile before I loosened up and was able to feel somewhat fluid. After that, I was fine. My swim workout earlier in the week felt great today not so much. For me swimming is hit or miss, sometimes it clicks and feels great and other times it feels like I am fighting with the water. I don't know if that makes sense or not.

As far as next weeks brick work out, I have been reading old race rehearsals in the forum and have started to put my plan together. I am not going to be able to do mine next week, I have to push it back a week. I am interested to see everyone’s plan and hear how it goes. It will be my first time with Infinit as well. I hope everyone else is doing well...

Steve where (what is the date on his post) did you find Rich's updated remarks? Thanks…
  • I did my long run Thursday trying to properly pace myself. I picked a hilly 6.5 mile course with about 500 feet of gain. I ran three loops and tried to average my Z1 pace for each lap. Very hard to do! It takes a lot of focus and paying attention to the Garmin. I'd slug it up the big hills comfortably and then pick up speed on the down hill until I was averaging Z1 overall. Ended up lap 1 was about 8 seconds per mile too fast, lap two 3 seconds per lap too fast and lap three, where I was starting to die badly, I ended up about 5 seconds per mile too slow.

Plan is to practice this for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it gets easier!
