The IMWI Tri-Rally Thread

Team,

As you should know, we are hosting free "tri-rallies" on the IMUSA and IMWI courses. I'm heading up the show for the IMWI camp and I'm REALLY looking forward to it!

Notes:

  • Details here
  • Cost: FREE! Just show up, train your brains out on the course, meet your teammates, listen to me run my mouth about IM training and racing. Bring your friends, invite your tri clubs, whatever. We want this to be big and fun, the total opposite of the typical high dollar camp experience.
  • Lodging: host hotel is the Clarion, right on the bike course where you turn into Rimrock Dr. We have a block of rooms reserved under the name "Endurance Nation." Use that to get the discounted rate of $99 for a suite with 2 beds. Recommend you use this thread to hook up with another camper to save money on lodging.
  • General plan for training is:
    • Thursday: evening arrival, maybe a quick ride, beers at the Great Dane, etc. Admin day.
    • Friday = race rehearsal ride of the course. Your pace, solo, this is your chance to dial in your race execution on YOUR course. This is HUGE.
    • Saturday: some flavor of epically cool ride. Put together our own route using the IMWI and Horribly Hilly courses? Lots of time to figure it out.
    • Sunday: one lap of the run course, showered and checked out of hotel by 11a.
  • Camp dinner, Saturday night at location TBD. Likely the Great Dane. $30 via PayPal from the link on the page above.
  • Talks: see the schedule at the page above. Not sure about where. Maybe on the steps of the Capitol building then walk to the Dane for dinner/beers? That would be pretty cool .

Are you in?

  1. Post to this thead if you are coming.
  2. Please also RSVP to the event on Facebook, and use the "invite your friends" jazz to tell your peeps about the camp and encourage them to come!
  3. Finally, if you want dinner, please use the PayPal link on the camps page to prepay. That's really the only count I need, for $$$ purposes, but Facebook is a good tool for us to spread the word and to communicate to you.

Here's the deal: I LOVE this race. I've done it twice, qualified for Kona here, and have done a gillion training camps on the course. I've been at the race to coach and spectate every year of the event. I've done a gillion camps like this, with this combination of social, training, instruction, and free, on the Wildflower course. It's a friggin' blast, I promise you.

I want EN to own this race as a Team and I want to own it as a coach. We have soooo many peeps in the NIL Sleeper Cell and in the WI area, and you are all very well connected to the tri community. There is no reason why we couldn't get 100 members, friends and training partners at this camp. Hell, we had 20+ in the rain last year in friggin' April! .

  • I'm in for Saturday for sure and probably either Friday and/or Sunday as well. Theresa and Abigail may even make the trip to Madison to join for dinner on Saturday.

I'll also start to spread the word and see if I can find other non-EN folks that may be interested.
  • Reading the schedule I kept thinking, I'm going to be downing a whole lotta Infinit that weekend! Coming in Wed. night, leaving Sunday mid-day.

Rich--is the PayPal link supposed to be on the FB page? If so, I think you need to add it.

  • I'm in for Friday through Sunday.

  • If anyone is looking for a roommate, I have a reservation and a free bed.

  • Not a facebook member, so won't be doing anything on that page. Will register for dinner on "Camps" page with Paypal. Nemo is my roomie already.
  • Linda, added the link to FB, thanks.

Matt(s): glad you can make it! Please invite Mr. S. Helmet. Matt A., I'm bringing the pain, seriously.

I'm game for what ever ride you want to do ... as long as you run with me before or after it

  • I'm in of course! The CowGirl Camp is the same time and basically we'll be following a similar schedule with a few "girl power" things thrown in for fun. Many of the ladies want to do the IMoo course on Saturday as well (I know- boring, but we want to OWN the course) so we may go our seperate ways that day.
  • Arriving Wed late or Thurs am. TBD. Leaving Monday. Driving from TN if anyone needs a ride!!

  • I would like to make it.....but not sure if I am going to be out town. Will let you know as soon as possible.
  • Hey Coaches,

I have a friend of a friend who is interested in joining but she can only make it Friday night through Sunday. Is it a problem if she joins late?

    Thanks!
  • Jeff, not at all. Just think of it as a tri club having an open training weekend in Madison. Come and go as you like, etc. That said, no SAG, no support, likely no route sheets, nothing organized other than "most people will be leaving location X at time Y to ride whatever. Talk is here at 5p, dinner at 6p, beers at 8p, repeat."

That's about as complicated as the weekend is going to be.

Note to self: should probably put the no SAG, no support jazz on the website(s)

  • I have a family wedding in central Iowa on Friday and I'm starting to drops hints I'm leaving as soon as the bride exits the church

Well be there for sure on Sat night at the latest with Karin....Although I might ride on Sunday as bike in Wisconsin = more fun than runnign in Madison.

  • I'll be driving up from Iowa likely for the full duration, Thurs night through Sunday. Invited a few local Tri Club teammates out, waiting to hear back from them before I determine my hotel situation.

    Really looking forward to this!

  • Driving in from Michigan Thursday morning. This will be awesome!
  • Definitely in for Thursday through Sunday.

While the 2010 IMWI peeps are out doing our RRs on Friday I propose a Strauss/Mancona 112 mile TT. Mancona must then follow this with a 5K Vdot test while Strauss fills his belly with brat-bacon-cheddar burgers, Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Stout.

I like the way you think, Jim.

IN!! My routine for Madison is:

    • Beers at the Dane. I like to sample several of their brews over the course of the weekend there. This year I want to add shooting pool with clinic attendees and taking their money....
    • Custard at...what's the name of that chain? Mike's?
    • Hit the Afghan restaraunts on State
    • A mid-ride brat at the little grill they set up in the Walgreens parking lot in Verona.
  • Oh, and in a little over two days we already have 33 rspv'ed to attend, and I haven't even really sent out formal invites to the fans of our EN Facebook page!

I'm in for the TT with Rich however I'm not so sure about the vdot test.  I will gladly run a 10k with Jim and then join Rich for a brat and michael's frozen custard.

  • I'll make the grueling 11 mile trek in to the Great Dane...I have IM 70.3 Racine the following week, but parts of the weekend sound excellent.

    It's Michael's Frozen Custard...better than Culver's IMHO.

Need anything for the IMWI weekend? I plan to volunteer, but would prefer to help the team if needed.

  • I'm looking forward to the camp!  Should be a lot of fun.

I have a reservation at the Clarion and am looking for a roomie or two in a 2 Queen size bed rooms.  Let me know if you are interested.

    Dave

  • Updates:

    • I called the hotel yesterday to make my reservation and they have added more rooms to our block.
    • I checked the Facebook event and we have 66 (!) people RSVP'd! I messaged everyone about the lodging yesterday so those rooms will start to go quickly!
    • Matt Ancona and I are talking about TTT'ing the course on Friday, to put up a team record. Maybe leave 30-45' behind everyone and straffe you on the course . Matt is at something crazy, like 4.5w/kg, so I have some work to do and may bring my tri bike so I can contribute. I've been on a road bike behind fast midgets on tri bikes...and it sucks. No draft and they are FAST!!
    • Looking into a local bike shop to help us with the camp. I'll keep everyone updated.

    Thanks!

Ahh, so you aren't really going to "see" any of the course on Friday and you'll be wiped out by Saturday.  Hmmmmm, seems to me like the perfect reason to do the course again with the EN Chica's, nice and easy to flush out those legs and you can help us all get our heads strait about how to approach the course and the hills

  • @Rich ... I can't block too much of the wind, but I may still have a spare TT bike in June if I don't sell it by then.  54/42 with a 11-21 is appropriate for you at Madison, right?

I actually have a spare compact crank as well, but not sure if you want to mess with riding someone else's TT bike becuase of the fit.

I think giving Jim Hansen a 45 minute head start and seeing if we catch him should be about right.  Of course he will be doing a RS and at a lower IF then us.

  • @Nemo, hell no. TTT on Friday, then HHH on Saturday for the total Dumbass Double experience .

@Matt, I've ridden my TT bike once (1x) since IMCDA'08. I've even stripped it for parts for my road bike. I'll definitely need to at least buy a new RD and ride it for about a month before I come out there. I would likely rent a road bike for HHH. No way I'm doing that on a tri bike.

We'll give Jim a head start and smack him on the ass x 2 when we blow by him

  • Yes I am in along with a few other Arkansans. Can't wait! Driving up Thurs - sunday or some such and staying at Clarion. m
  • I'm in for the TRi Rally , I do not have a facebook account so I will register here and on the paypal thing. I will be there Thurs night through Sunday approximately. please dont forget us non-facebook people

Also if anyone already has a room, looking to share a room and/or a ride from Chicago

  • As a beginner in the triathlon world (this is my 3rd season) and with IMWI as my first ever IM (heck, it will be the first time I've ever run more than about 16 miles too), I am stoked about this rally. I'm not missing a minute of it. I'll drive over on Thursday after work from the Milwaukee area.

I think the tri community is filled with caring and compassionate people always willing to share their knowledge and experience and I appreciate that.

    See you in July.
  • I'm coming solo from central Iowa. Anyone interested in sharing a room? Drop me a line. wsjenks@iastate.edu or 515-451-4711

    Cheers!
