  • AIP - term adopted! And way to go, Kitima!  The women's forum inspired to get my AOB this morning and do my 5x4x30/30s. Good times! I was a little sad I didn't have time to get in the brick run right away and will have to wait until lunch. That's a very good thing!

Nemo --  I am seeing a bodywork dude once a month. It is so worth it!

  • Nemo- agree - would be wonderful if I could get that bike in on am. Def seeing recovery as a focus point this season. That being said, I was waaaayyy tired this morning and it was low 40's so I put off long run till this evening. Wish I could get it in an lunchtime!

Last season & this season, as part of the recovery/maintenance function, I do work in a chiro visit abt every 6-8 weeks and a massage from an ART certified therapist (wow.. such incredible pain that is so good later!) Now to climb back on board with the recovery eating post ride. Doing ok, but need to be sure it's spot on! Also finding that as I've dropped the yoga from the schedule (due to time constraints) I am really feeling it!! May have find a way to get it back in!

    Good work this morning folks!
  • After a whoppin' TP/LR yesterday on the 'mill, today was a sad, sad, sad 40' EZ run. LR pace felt like mile 20. Oh well. I have got to get my run frequency up. Swim is a little light, bike is fine, but I'm a bit shy on the run frequency. In the books, time to carry on.

Riding with Carly tomorrow. Hope she doesn't kick my butt too badly. I alwasy get so nervous about holding people back. It will be great to met another chica, no matter what!

  • AIP and AOB....made me smile cuz that's about how it goes some days!!  Got my 120 min run done this morning!!!  Yeah, I am very pumped longest I have run in a looong time!  Slow though, around 11.61 miles to be exact   Was hoping for at least 12, but I will settle for now.  The wind nearly blew me off the road, blast wind sometimes.....though, pay back time came on the way back and the wind was gracious and pushed me home!  Tomorrow run + RR swim.  Bought new running shoes last night, NB 1064.  Got a bigger size, but now I am thinking they are too big....I really dislike buying new running shoes, kind of have a love affair with the tried and true old ones!  Though, I felt like the changes they made to the shoe made the 7.5 feel kind of snug....anyhow, anyone else where the NB 1063 (new # 1064 this year) and have to size up a half size?  And does a half size really make much of a difference?  I am so anal about getting the right fit   Have a great day everyone!

  • Team Boyle totally hit the snooze bar 5 too many times this morning. Both of us are still dragging from the weekend.

That being said, thank god I have bankers hours. was later than I wanted it to be but totally dragged my butt out for a 90 min/10 mile run. Ever notice how the neighbors only see you out when you're dragging home at a snails pace??

I'm kind of in decision mode at the moment. I was on the fence with Mooseman all along since it's two weeks after ToC. Initially, I was leaning towards slugging through it to support my friends but since they are all bailing methinks I am as well. Would rather just put the effort towards something else.  Which leaves the revised race schedule as:

    6/5 Moose Oly->6/19 Patriot??->7/11 Providence 70.3.

  • currently 81 degs and winds 18mphs SW but only 36% humidity... and I just finished riding 48 miles!!  yep I did Saturday's ride and the work in Sunday's ride! did the easy part of Sunday ride yesterday... and with bad weather and ltd childcare "catch as catch can" was the theme for today.  yes, my legs felt fatigued from the work done on Mon - WED and yes I was super slow getting from car to bike!  it felt cold out there so I put on jacket, arm warmers and leg warmers too and of course ditched those at the side of the road about 30' into the ride.. but the warm up I was warm!!  I had some noodling in there with potty stops, checking phone when hubby called me, taking off gloves and socks when it got warm but I did do the work!!  and right now my legs feel it too!   haven't ridden that far since Mar 20, when I rode 65.  oh, cuz i knew my legs were tired, I went on a hilly route and knew it would be windy!!!  keeps me honest on the "work".... and yep got a Snickers at mile 18..... nothing funny happened out there, did see one writhin snake on the road.  I was excited when I finished, cuz #1 I was solo and kept myself on task and 2.  I did it!!  3.  I didn't feel fatigued like I did several weeks ago when I could hardly ride 30' and 4.  the wind doesn't bother me as I tell myself "tighten up the core!" "relax the body" when the wind attempts to blow me off course!  No PM and I don't wear the HR monitor (yet), I just go by feel.  I know not accurate but hey... if I find myself multitasking out there then I know I need to pick it up a bit!!  to get into zone 3, and oh if I can audibly hear myself breathe and hope nobody else can...?  then I have hit zone 4... I did not do zone 5, that is booger stage .  okay tonight I am pacing my mother in her practice 5k (walk) but she can do it slowly in 45' and hopes to break that!!  it is warm which she doesn't like... her target and first 5k - May 8th which I will be pacing her on, so tonight is  a practice!!  but also a reunion in former town with my runner GFs!!!  can't wait of course.  okay egg omelette ready.  last of the mix that I made up on Sunday....

1 dozen eggs, 1 package of John Morrell diced ham, some milk, and some shredded cheese.   add to it.. but basically you can have some food fast!!!

Carbo Pro not in yet so on the ride I had:  dates and pecans, marshmallow treat, snickers, small Luna bar.  and water.

  • You ladies are very inspiring. I am still farting around in Week 17 of OS. Although I added swimming 1x/week. I did my T-pace swim and found that I am pretty much on par for where I have always been. Short of someone getting in the pool with me and moving my arms in a different manner to really make a change easy to understand, I don't think I will be seeing any time improvements. That's fine. I need to build up my endurance for swimming, 1000 yards ain't gonna cut it.

Hearing all of  you doing long runs, I feel left out, but know it is coming. I will switch over to HIM plan after OS week 19. Doing HIM 6/19 (same as Linda and Leigh). I'm not going to waste a week on testing. I don't think I have much room to improve and will not be killing myself. IM training will be 12 weeks of "hard enough".

Will be glad to ride outside rather than on trainer. Feeling whooped after 2.5 hrs. Need more endurance there too. I have a LONG way to go. When it was 37 weeks, it seemed like forever. Now 20 weeks feels like it is TOO close and I am NOT ready!

Deep breath! I have the ENTIRE summer ahead of me!

  • I'm feelin' the Mojo of IM training here. Woo Hoo! I love the AIP term. Sweet! You lady's are really inspiring! I'm currently in week 7 of HIM plan and plan on jumping into the 12 week IM plan after my race. Keep up the good work!

    Eric
  • AIP@6:30am. Done! Now I can enjoy the rest of my Friday!

Michele, no worries about were you are at!!  I know you are a veteran of EN and understand all the mojo about enjoying the OS with limited training volume....though it sounds like you are doing the long bikes!  As far as the long runs, they will be there when you get to them....believe me!  I totally agree about not retesting and wasting a week.  I did not retrest once inside the HIM plan, just hit the ground with the stats from the OS and have done fine.  Yes, do breathe, lots of time to train!

  • AIP by 8:45 ish.  Did my RR swim, 1900 m @ 39:40.  Not much difference from last year's HIM swim times.  So, not gettin any faster, but not slowin down either.  The winter I took off from swimming totally did not affect my swim times!!  Glad I drank the koolaide on that bit of advice.  Tommorow RR #1.

  • Thanks Kathy! Always nice to hear from someone else that if I really think about it, the mojo and training will get me through. Those moments of self doubt stink. You and Nemo with AIP this AM- NICE! I am headed there AFTER work. It is INSANE at the pool in the morning. Can't wait to swim outside, another month or so for me and I will ditch the pool completely.
  • moment of self doubt"... Michele, coming out of a fog I can honestly say it is the thyroid mess up talking..... that is what Linda and others told me,, just wait for new meds to kick in. you will feel better so don't push it and relax... do what you can do and really just this week, did I feel normal.. "wow, this is me again!" I called up all of my friends and posted it here!! so you will return to normal again soon....... come "17 weeks to WI" and you wait and look back in here to see how far you will have gone... and "15" weeks and then "12 weeks to WI" and this fatigue will be a distant memory..... , m
  • Nice work, everyone! I went for a very warm and windy, windy, run today! 2x1/2 and 2x1 mile intervals at interval pace. I almost managed to hold pace, but there had to have been 20-30 mile gusts!

Now, AIP for me. Reward when I get home? Watching the last half of The Hurt Locker.

  • AIP and easy 30 min run for me this a.m. coolest part?? the Y now has a synchronized swimming coach and a few girls working out when I get in there. I was totally rocking out to some underwater Lady Gaga tunes this morning (of course I didn't know that at the time since I'm not up to date on my pop 40). image

this weekend Dave and I are planning to ride up to our camp on Sat + home on Sun so if we never surface again its because we keeled over somewhere between here and Lake Winnie. Google says it's 75 miles each way so we shall find out. will definitely be a shock to the system and the a$$.

  • I'm in Week 7 of HIM Beginner plan till after Rev 3 Half at Quassy then I will switch to the 12 week plan. So far so good, although I started getting my 2nd sinus infection so will have to do my 3 hour ride on the trainer tomorrow. Oh well, time to get comfortable with IM MOO on the CT. image
  • Rain here and no childcare for youngest two = rest day for me... but I planned it that way so my body was slow to get out of bed with the plinking of rain. coffee here and in slo mo. I walked a 5k hilly neighborhood yesterday with four other GFs.. and I did this two weeks ago and it killed my glutes... but today not so bad so I am making progress. if y'all want a workout, try walking very fast up and down hills!!! not kidding. great workout for hams and glutes! PT for right arm went well and he said it was fixable. he thinks shoulder blade pain is related to me putting right arm in either disuse or weird position... and I have these exercises to do... the best thing yesterda was meeting a new GF and he just bought a road bike, hasn't ridden since she was a girl... and she doesn't know me....!!! I told her she was me 5 years ago and no worries that she doesn't know anything! we hope to go out in a beginner ride next week with these other friends of my GF who are also getting bikes. I will have to use them as WU or CD or separate after run... but excited to pass on all the mistakes to avoid!! m
  • @Michele: I had the same thoughts as you too: Wah? 20 weeks (well, now 19!), I need more time! DH says,"Honey, you've got ALL summer to train." That sounded alot better than "Only 19 weeks left."

@Joanne: 2nd sinus infection--Ouch! The pollen has been out of control here in Upstate NY. I had a 5 week lingering respiratory infection/sinus yuck in March. Hope you're feeling better!

I was AOB this morning at 7:30 (Thank you, Nathalie!) and had a great ride. Those watts I lost in Argentina are slowly coming back.

  • I had a great ride this morning as well. I've been riding from home to the start of the "roadie ride" lately. Works great because I ride ABP to the start, then ride with them for about an hour which turns out to be more of a VO2 interval style riding as I struggle to hang on, then I ride ABP back home again. It will be really hard to keep riding with them this summer when I switch to Fiona. TT bike in a paceline like that is just not a great idea.
  • Finishing up week 8 of HIM plan-sorta. Today the plan called for was 60' swim, 2 hour bike , 60' run. Know what? I don't have all day image, and since I didn''t do any of that the last few years, I'm hacking that piece of the plan to what we did in the old days--an AOB weekend. 3 hour FT ride yesterday; 2:15 APB today with 20' run. Today was brutal, and I didn't hit anything close to 85%. But yesterday...was stellar with lots of work and great intervals. I can tell by these rides that I'm still not back 100%, but I'll take it. Baby steps, as our studlette CC likes to say. image Next time, I'm bringing Moojo.

I am all turned around with this Moo schedule. The last two IMs I did were FL in November. I think, "meh, tons of time." But this is not happening in November, and I got a clutch in my throat today when it dawned on me how fast this is all coming on!

Michele--listen to marianne. Give it a month (at the longest) and you'll see your old self emerging. It's hard to believe how profound the impact of this thyroid thing is--never would have believed it was so bad. Hang in there, you will be better. That's a promise--and a fact. Hugs to you, because I never in my life felt like such sh#@.

  • Mission: Rest day.

sleep racked: bed at 11 p.m. = minus 1 point, needed 10 p.m..... texted teenage son "where are you" "at the movies" and had intermittent texts with him until 3 a.m. when I knew he was spending night with a friend (typical for weekend)... minus 1 point. Slept in til 8 a.m. (add in 1 point). Afternoon napped outside on lawn chair. (add in one point). Remained stress free. (add 1 point). Did not exercise. (add 1 point). Nutrition: ate Boulder potato chips, (minus 1 point), made smoothie (add 1 point). Read a magazine about how to destress for relaxation! while eating a banana popsicle. (add 1 point). Looked at pics of good memory. (1 point) Didn't have to go anywhere so stayed at home (1 pt). Chores (minus 1 pt)

analysis of my numbers= 5 points. a Successful rest day. Will the next week hold true like last week?? ie. a solid rest day led to five solid, on target training days. to be continued..... smile!! m
  • It is Sunday morning and finally getting a chance to get on the computer. Yesterday was my first RR plus prom plus hosting the prom party after!!!!  Yikes talk about a bery visy day!!  I was out the door by 6:30 am, with everything loaded into the van and drove to the race site.  This course has a lot of hills and yesterday it was crazy windy!!  I am a lil peep and those wind gusts nearly blew me off the road several times.....that was SCARY!!!!  So, cut the bike short, 2:15 instead of 3 hours.  Glad to get off the bike and onto the run, which went well.  First 30 min at LRP and last 35 or so at HMP!  Was supposed to run at MP, but felt really good so kicked it in some.  That rarely happens to me after the bike, so this must be EN magic   I have not had time to look at the bike numbers, but prolly rode conservatively.  That course is really hard to dial in a consistent wattage!  IMWI is really going to be interesting in trying to keep a low VI and IF!  Have a great day ladies

  • Decided to get in a longer run today--EZ pace, keeping it to about 7 miles. Well, you know how RnP advise NOT doing the LR after a hard bike? Well how about after 2 hard bikes? Don't let me do that again, 'k? It was ug-ly. I so wanted to be out there, and my head was in a great place so desiring of doing the run. But the breathing was AWOL. I had nothing in the aerobic department. Hard every step of the way--even with the 5'/30" hack. image AIP tomorrow. No legs day for schizzle.

  • Day of Rest for me. Moojo and I went to brunch. (+1 point). I am going to laze around and read books. (+1 point), wearing clothes that contain no percentage of lycra (+1 point). Marianne, I think you are on to something -- one solid day of rest leads of five days of good exercising. Good sign? I am looking forward to ftp and vdot tests.

  • I hear ya Linda. I need to sneak in a run this afternoon - I was too wiped out from staying up to watch IMSG Live feed last night to get it done before church this morning. But the trick is I gotta get myself ready to get up early tomorrow morning to run & swim too! Back to the routine, I'm determined to make this happen!
  • Put in 100 hard earned miles on the bike yesterday +3 (one for each mountain), Put in 1000 yd recovery swim to keep things loose +1, getting to meet yet another super cool chicka (Gina) on yesterday's ride - priceless!

Here's me trying to figure out the video function on my Nano on top of Mountain #2- Alabama!

  • okay so another basic rest day for me... I did ride for one hour to clear my head though but tired legs. so a weekend of rest will see what that gets me.

some of you might think I got it together.... but then I have five kids!! today was crazy... was a bit late for church at ten, How I dunno, oh yeah decided to wear a dress and hot roll my hair! ... but okay ... made it then in lieu of lunch out we decided to go to movies me and kids, DH outta town... four cars!!! we are not green. I forget my purse at home, one son Doesn't have any gas and then we make it late to movie theatre. so get in on the next movie, buy popcorn except the movie is isn't showing!! we get refund and go to next movie.. one son goes home, I go home to get purse while 4 kids go out to eat... one son's phone is dead, I bring a charger, stop in at bank but it is closed with no power so no ATM $$, get to movies 2 hours after getting outta church and no lunch yet!! forget charger in car, walk out to lot to get, finally sit down with 3D glasses to watch Dinosaurs.... and a pleasant movie at that!!.. go to gas station to gas up three cars, and CC won't go over $75.. takes 30' to get attendant to authorize and get all vehicles gassed up... after that??/ I see my bike and some clothes and decide I need a bit of time and a lollygag to ride to clear my head of the chaotic afternoon, although the kids were not stressed. Then I go to grocery store and stock up, come home to discover the dog chewing on a stuffed animal and he has dug a might fine mess in my yard! I yank him into his kennel so I don't have to watch him while I cook dinner, write graduation announcements and then here I sit.

this rest day, I am counting as a credit though as I got to see all five of my kids, was able to work thru life little's hassles, and as ya know on race day.. sometimes the little things can bog you down!!
