Jeff Beetz Official Coach Thread
Here's your personal Coach Thread, as promised. This is where you'll return to post all your "coach" questions as responses; I'll see them and reply. This first post is here to guide you through your first year on EN, so you can always come back here.
As you'll see in this forum, I handle all manner of edits and changes. So post away, know that I reply here usually M/W/F each week.
Power User Tip: Click the Star icon by the Title of this thread to subscribe, and you'll get email updates when I do reply.
Coach Notes
Jeff, great to have you sign up! I think our top priority during December is to get you back on the bike (in addition to the running)...just to get comfortable with all the moving parts, the specific fatigue, etc. Hopefully the equipment is playing nice and you don't have to replace anything. If so, you can get it done with low friction now before we start the January OutSeason Plan which is where we start to ramp up the work load.
In a way, it's nice to have the run durability in your back pocket. Don't be afraid to back away a bit from the run as we build the bike. I promise it won't be gone for good! 🤣 In terms of the swim, we don't usually swim in the winter, but you might be anxious to get that back; let's talk about it on our Coach Call: https://calendly.com/pmccrann/15min
You'll take a break over the holiday season (new year's break) before you roll into the OS. I have loaded your !Run Durability Program and OutSeason Plan plans into your Final Surge account...let's get to work!

Thanks, good to be back. Do you still use trainer road for bike trainer rides? I really liked that guidance
@Jeff Beetz Yes, we use both Trainer Road and Zwift workouts. You can find the Trainer Road ones in your account on Trainer Road, assuming you are still part of Endurance Nation. You will need to download and he’s with finals you want under the training tab Where you can find the training plan descriptions. Go to the Outseason one and look in the right side bar.
@ coach Patrick just finished my call with Brenda, trying to fix calendar and load plans. I'm doing IM oceanside early april and I notice there are no swims once I get past January. Any suggestions? then the next race is IMI Switzerland. Also is there an ABP ride on trainer road? thanks
@jeff beetz
Welcome to your SECOND MONTH inside Endurance Nation!
To help you continue your progress, we have a few short questions for you. You can copy the questions and put your answers in your reply to this thread (no need to copy the questions, just keep the numbers the same!).
** Rankings **
Please rate the following items on a Scale of 1 to 3 (1 = Unsatisfactory, 2 = Satisfactory, 3 = Great!):
** Subjective Information **
** Additional Learning **
Now that we are beyond the initial learning curve of Endurance Nation, it's time to give deeper into some additional resources that can really help you out.
You have several options:
** Need Coach Input? **
Don’t forget you can schedule a check in call with Coach Patrick online here: https://calendly.com/pmccrann/15min
We are looking forward to your answers!
@jeff beetz -
Now that I know you are doing Zurich, You can find some info on the coursE in @Tim Sullivan Race report here. You should send him a PM here in the forums; I'm sure he's be happy to share info with you.
I recall you saying that you don't do well in the heat, well, Tim does mention how it can be hot there in Zurich by the time the run comes around. So we need to handle that. There are more specific acclimation things you can do as the season progresses, but for now we need to get you used to drinking on both the bike and the run (even when indoors).
I recommend you focus on one bottle of Gatorade Endurance per hour when cycling, and that you plan on drinking one or two gulps of GE every mile of your runs. If you are outside you might like to have a Fuelbelt or similar hydration system.
Can't hurt to get this rolling for Oceanside anyway!
As for the swims, I think it's best to cap the OS at four weeks and then go EN*Half to your race, like this:
Let me know what you think!
~ Patrick
Enjoy the weekend
I totally agree! I’ll keep my eye on my inbox. 😂
@jeff beetz
