EM- HIM Week 7
Hi all! Just checking in to see how everyone's RRs went on Saturday? It was my first ever RR and all in all, I fared pretty well. Definitely some things to work on and think about - but it was certainly a very good thing to do - and 6 weeks out, good for my head to know my body can do it. I did a report if anyone wants to take a look and offer some advice, I'd appreciate it. Nemo and Kitima have given me some good stuff to think about.
Oh, I did end up going to Hains Point - just a lot easier to deal with as far as logistics. Not to mention, it's flat, sunny, and windy... pretty much like Cambridge. And man was it an EMesque day. By the time I was running it was sunny and over 80. Ugh.
Today's run was brutal. Once they loosened up, the legs felt okay but the humidity was just ridiculous... hard to breathe. I'm just not ready for August yet! Plan to be at the pool in the next hour... speed work. Fun times.

I'm not too worried though. I've got time to get in one good RR before the real deal.
My best news is that I actually got up early enough to get my swim & run done today! woohoo! I just need to keep that routine going so that it starts to feel "normal" again. Man, it's been a loooooong time since I did those kinda 2 hour pre-work workouts!
Oh- and I cut the swim short again BTW. WTF is it with 3800 meter workouts for a HIM??? OK, I obviously need to sit down with Rich and have a talk with him about that when I get to Cali!
@ Nemo, we leave in 3 weeks! What's up with the bike shipping? You sending it by boat? You're freakin me out over here.
Chris- check the calendar! We're down to less than 2 weeks!!! I'm shipping by ground. Per FedEx, it's gotta be picked up here by this Thursday to be sure it gets to Rich by next Thursday. I'm just sending a few days early to be sure.
@Nemo: yes, please chat with the coach!
I don't know about those swims... I wasn't exactly sure about how to do yesterday's because when I added up what was written it was much longer than the approximation at the bottom of the box... but had I done it as written I think it would have been around 4000m... which struck me as ridiculous! I cut it down myself - i.e., I did the sprint 50 as the second to last 50 then did the recovery 50 as the last of the set before resting... in any event, even my abridged version, shaving off a couple hundred meters took me 1:07!
I took this morning off and came in to work early - to bank some credit hours since I'm leaving early for PT. I'll do the swim after that.
TOC sounds like fun!
@Nemo - shoulder? yikes, take care of it! I followed your lead and posted a question about yesterday's swim beneath yours in the fix da plans thread... not sure if you're in intermediate or not (I noticed different activity numbers, but maybe that's because I jumped into the 12 week plan)... but yesterdays swim, if I figured it out correctly would have been 4000m (although only 3000 was noted). As I jiggered it, I did 3250 and that took me 1:07!
@Kate - sounds good... glad you had a great weekend in the saddle! I hope my hand will be good to go for some of those loops soon... even doing the flats my hand was stiff and swollen through yesterday... actually still a little off today...
SUCCESS! I got my tush out of bed and into the saddle at 5:10am! I will admit hitting my cadence targets on the 30/30s wasn't easy (and I didn't make it), but I did my best for being in a semi-conscious state then did a glorious 30 minute run in 60 degree weather - the sun was up but not shining high... just perfect. It definitely reminded me why I like early morning runs!
Cross your fingers that I can make it 2 days in a row! I'm hoping to start the long run about 6 tomorrow... which means I'll have to get up to eat something around 4. I'm contemplating doing a RR type move and having a smoothie made and ready to go for me so all I have to do is gulp it down and lie low for another 1.5 hours til I have to get ready... we'll see... I've never been good at getting up the second time, though. Training for my second marathon, for the Saturday long run I would have more done before the 7am start than most people get done in a day (i.e., would usually have my 2d loan of laundry in the dryer, have scooped kitty poop and swept the floors... I'd hit the grocery on the way home from the run and all of my weekend admin would be done)...
Oh, and in the interest of full disclosure, I nixed the swim last night. Just didn't think the ROI on another 3000+m swim was there for me. I swam Monday and will swim Fri - last night it was night to get everything ready for today (pump the tires, get my fluids ready, program my watch, eat early, get to bed early). No regrets... swimming is my best of the 3 respectively (insofar as I, knock on wood, finish in the top 3rd of my AG).
Kate, I didn't see a cue sheet for that ride in the bike book I have... could you forward a map? thanks!
I'm trying to figure out where/how to do the 4 hour ride tomorrow. I'll be solo so I don't want to venture too far away and I'd like to do a loop where the car will never be an impossible distance away should anything happen... I think Sunday I'll be heading to Prince William Forest with Dan... and will make up this morning's run afterwards (likely skipping the hill repeats as I'm sure my legs will be beat up after 6 hours of saddle time this weekend).
So, tomorrow will be my first attempt at an EN style ride outside. And Sunday will be my first attempt at any sort of hill... ugh... I'm worried, my mojo is way down after the crash...and now the hand... not that I was ever fearless, but I am way more wimpy than I used to be.
Swim tonight... 3500m? seriously?! We'll see how much I can knock out.
