need pep talk: big bike week, raining & 45-50 every day
I'm doing a home-based 10d big bike block starting tomorrow. Every day (except the mid-block rest day: 90% chance of awesome) is rain and 6-10 degrees.
Please, someone, give me an Any Given Sunday pep talk 'cuz otherwise I see a lot of complaining in my future.

See David Goggins...
@Dave Tallo - I'm hurt and would love to be in your shoes. So my pep talk is enjoy it while you can. :)
ya, that puts it in perspective!
"No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." - my daily reminder during daily bike commutes in all 12 months, 1998-2010.
You can't fool me - I saw you *enjoying* this 6C day, with 20 cm new snow (not on the roads, thank goodness)
A friend of mine who knows @John Withrow said that according to JW, riding in the rain makes you stronger in the non rain.. get some warm and dry clothes and get on it
What he^^ said
Velominati Rule #5.
You can do this and it’ll make a better story than perfect conditions.
@Dave Tallo , while the competition is sitting on the couch, you'll be getting your ride on! You've got this!
@Dave Tallo Great minds think alike , I was just thinking the same exact thing. Let the suffering begin.
@tim cronk you’re evil
We need a Bike Week report, @Dave Tallo. How'd it go?
@Janyne Kizer thanks for asking. I’m on day 10 (started a day late), with 40h of training done, and 3h (on the trainer) tonight. 2 of the 10 days were ok for riding, but the rest were terrible conditions. I have deep respect for Belgian and Dutch cyclists, cuz that’s kinda what I imagine their spring conditions would be. It Van Der Sucked being so cold and wet, despite having top-shelf gear.
Much more mellow pace than past big bike weeks, and my power numbers were where they stood in the “ good” years I had 4-5 years ago, so I’m optimistic to now bring those and a bigger Ae engine into the 12 week build for IM Canada. I had to jump from my road bike to tri bike midway through the week after developing some knee pain, but I'm grateful that the injury didn't persist, and didn't compromise the work too much.
Seems like 10 days is the perfect duration for me, and I can normally swing this with minimal work interruption around the Easter weekend - in the end, it only cost me 3.5 vacation days.
Awesome! That's a lot of riding! I have only done that much mileage/hours when I did Cycle North Carolina and that was a while ago. Even then, I'm not sure that I hit that many hours. Impressive!
@Dave Tallo Keep eating, eat, and eat again. There is no way around it, you will be depleted. Stay ahead of it. Discretionary calories go up.
@Sheila Leard - you are beautiful
OK now that is just funny..... Having done a 30hr week with Dave Tallo , I can say the man needs NO coaxing to fuel... Just saying :-)
Dave I hope your surviving the weather. I'm running out of sunscreen and running the air conditioner, but I found a way to deal on one of my long runs by taking a dip in the Mt Lemmon snow run off pools :-)
Carry on!
@tim cronk it was snowing here yesterday afternoon. I hope you trip over a Gila Monster.
go inside.
should have come to Mallorca.
