Well, yeah. Because the virus is so easily transmissible - each infected person, symptomatic or not, infects 2-3 others - abandoning isolation regime would fairly quickly produce > 50% infected rate, and thus drop in transmission rates, ie herd immunity. Of those, maybe (using US population), 30-60 million might get 'sick' to some degree or other, of whom 10000000 would be real sick (2-3 weeks laid up), 2-3 mill in hospital, 500000 or more dead. All in pretty short order. The resulting collapse of the health care system would cause breakdown of rest of society, as it represents 20% of the economy. There is NO EASY PATH to the other side. Bad choices everywhere you turn...
My best advice...steer clear of anyone not wearing a mask in public over the next year to year and a half. And don't try to 'educate' those who aren't. Assume they are as smart as you and just don't care.
Sub saharan African big cities are up shit creek. Easily 300000 dead in next few months. Even rich, isolated Singapore is now seeing rapid increase in cases with its significant migrant population.
