  • 26 years !!! Congrats, Marianne.

17 weeks to go!! This is a testing and count down to vacation week for me. We are heading to the beach house for 9 days on Sat morning. CAN'T WAIT!! Somehow have to get in this weeks training AND get packed up to leave by earrrrrllyy Sat!!

  • Congratulations, Marianne!

This week? Epic tri week, starting Wednesday. I'm planning a 42-mile bike for Wednesday, 84-mile bikes for Thursday, Friday, a 1/2 mary on Saturday and other miscellaneous running. I'm taking the roadie, so I'll have no power, but I am looking forward to getting in lots of miles. Tonight? I'm thinking about kicking off epic tri week with a big run, since yesterday was mostly day of rest.

  • Congrats, m! and Happy Anniversary!

Have fun, Beth! What's making you do the big week?

OTOH, my desire to do big weeks before I have to is nil. This time through I am all about preserving my time and my physical self until the peak weeks. I know how tough it's going to get, so I am staving all that off. Then I plan to give it a big go, recover, and race. Sooo with that said, starting week-17-to-go with a day off. Maybe a run in later the afternoon, but I gave the bike a good go this weekend and feel I need the day to recharge. Onwards and upwards!

Linda -- I'm going to North Dakota -- the state of boring and pie. Big tri week while I'm there turns both of these things into assets!

  • okay so I ran 5 miles this morning.. and duh?? .5 miles in 4:01.. please note that is too fast to start off speedwork, yeah I was warmed up.. but duh, three runners behind me and race protocol took over (don't let them pass) and out I bolted like an untrained horse at the races! I had warmed up 2.5 miles on about 98% humid foggy morning... and then bolted! oh yeah it felt good, but then next mile.. uh that left quad pain.. something about going fast hurts!! ha ha. if I dip under 8' pace... it flares up so like Linda I am looking ahead and not wanting to go backwards.... so next mile, was slower.. hmm, a bit more warm up and next .5 mle repeat, bagged it and enjoyed the run with Rudy romping beside me in open fields. "beautiful dog" were compliments I heard and yep he was. and today even obedient as I got him to sit right off the bet to get leash on..!! and monday morning super crazy aftermath of graduation,(60 kids dropped in on us last night about 10 p.m.!) so I had a banana pre run and looked in cooler and no nutrition!! except for two teeny honey packages from KFC!! and so I took them! emergency rations btw. and I shoulda known that the run was a bit off as my scrunchie was not working anymore. Girlfriend rule of extra scrunchie on Garmin was not in play and for the life of me long hair on wet sticky morning doesn't work! but I did laugh as I found out again why God gave me eyebrows...? to stop the sweat from going into my eyes! foggy morning with sun trying to come thru made it steamy! honesuckle fragrant on the bushes! and I lost track of time out there... until uh oh, tine for PT!! rummaging around in my gym bag I found some dry clothes! and fortunately they had some hard jolly ranchers candy and I got 3 of them to prevent bonk!! now this is not the correct protocol!!! but I did laugh at myself... okay one banana, one honey and it was 11:30 before some bean soup came my way at lunch with friends! so if you think I am organized, I really am not. just winging it by the seat of my pants! but I did graduate from PT,, yep no more shoulder pain, well a bit of pain but not enough to keep on going! okay back to chores! but I hope you are having a nice Monday! and pick up those honey packages at the fast food restaurants!! lol.... you never know. and nice and small too.

so I am gonna do the VDOT next week after a 3 day rest break this weekend, also I am not swimming 1000 yards if I dont' feel like it, and will move that next week, but the bike test I do want to do even without a PM! and Oh my mother made it in newspaper last week for her first 5k effort! cool huh? m
  • So I am now officially on this plan, but I don't want to test. That's why I skipped week 20 of OS! So I am doing last week's workouts and will get back on track next week.
Took a total rest day except for push ups and core work, and had massage after work. Feeling much better. Need to sleep....
  • Back from core work and the pool. I did lots of drills on position, trying to reteach myself to bilaterally breathe and flip turns! There were successful flip turns!

Note: In an attempt to not starve after swimming, I grabbed my skiing softshell to wear back from the gym. Not hungry. Looks like it may be a body heat thing after all.

  • out the door today to go mt biking! I am on a team, and I don't know how to ride!! but did two races last Fall...!! I was the recruiter for females on the team and they have kept the points high! for top ranked team in state. anyways, for moral support and overall comedy I need to go to the races and first one is 30 May! oh yeah I take loads of pics at the races too and friends with them so overall if I can ride the course I am welcomed into a tailgating, camping like atmosphere with good food and a bunch of laughter! all I have to do is ride 15 miles of treacherous course... for this on my anniversary, today? I have sweetly asked hubby to drive me down there, 2 hours away and go ride with me! I chose to join the team if you remember to improve my bike handling skills. and yes now on my tri bike I can do minimal bunny hops!! lol. okay signing off....right now I wish I was Kitima and had her mt biking skills!! m
  • Greetings fellow IM-Moo mates! I've been traveling a lot for work so have been 'quiet' in the forums. But, no more! Today was my first FTP test since finishing the Nov OS and working on recovering from a hamstring issue. I have to say it was awesome! Putting in all the miles outside is paying off (not to mention all that OS work). The bike is my weakpoint so today I reached a new FTP of 174 and w/kg of 3.4, very exciting. In all pretty happy given how strong I felt and no discomfort in the glute! I had NP of 171 for the first 20 minutes (just over my prior FTP level) and 180 for the second 20! Killed it the last 5 minutes. That's what I"m talking about. After a long winter with minimal gains despite pushing to puke levels and then, boom, a comfortable, controlled, hard effort. Work WORKS!!

Keep up the effort, can't believe we have a countdown to race day already.

    Cheers!

  • Good day today. 6 mile run early this morning with 2xmile at TP. Those felt great, and my mental state needed that! Then I squeaked in 1800m at the pool this afternoon. Was crunched for time, so I was happy to get that much in. To maximize the yardage in a little bit of time, I did a 1000 TT (well, sorta...I didn't exactly kill myself ), and I was exactly the same time I've always been. OK with me given all that's been going on. I haven't swum 1000 straight since last year...maybe it was 2008 . Felt good to put my head down and just crank it out.

  • Run today. Substituted some hill repeats for one of the TP intervals. But will try to not over extend too much. I already know I'm skipping the BRick run tomorrow. Gotta pace myself.
  • FTP test today. As I told Linda, meh- they are overrated. Came in RIGHT where I thought I was going to be. No gains and no big losses.

    Onward to tomorrow.

  • Feel all out of kilter here... I'm in Week 18 of 20 on HIM plan (Kansas looming in T- 18 days). Would love an epic weekend for Mem Day but since that's week before KS, probably not the best timing! Did an Aquabike on Sat and using that in place of HIM RR. Swam today and off to bike tomorrow (rain past several days). Caught the cold running around the office so rain likely came at best time, forcing me to rest up!
  • okay so I haven't done this week's workouts! today I ran 12.5 my most ever since July 09. okay so it was supposed to rain right? and I will be gone 3 days so I start running and no rain so I continue on making one loop and picking up Rudy from the car for a 2nd route... and since last week I ran 11, I well... just kept on running! I think technically I was supposed to be at 1/2 marathon status before the IM program but due to piriformis hadn't been able to get there. it was good weather too. not too warm and not too cold but definitely humid. I hope you had a great day too
  • Good couple of days in the bank.

Wednesday was AOB and AIP. image Bike was AOB was 1x12, 1x10, 2x8 @ FT. Actually hit that a few watts over, which was nice for a change. Then it was 2400m in the pool with masters. Can you say starving woman, after all that?!

Today, FOP for 10 miles. Did another experiment today. Instead of doing 5'/30" I ran until I felt a reset would be nice--not really "needed," but more like "wouldn't-it-be-lovely-to-have-a-little-stroll" kind of feeling. I did not follow a set pattern, and only went by feel. Seems the reset worked out to ~ every 15-22' ; I would then walk for 30". The data showed I was 20"/mile slower than the last two weeks when I used the 5'/30" system. Granted, I went out a little too fast, felt good, so thought for sure I could hang on to the pace from beginning to end. Nope, I really started to slow down after about an hour. What I find with the 5'/30" is that I can hold the pace much longer, and not have those dips in pace that are quite as dramatic. I figure this is what training is for--experimenting and having fun figuring things out. Will go back to 5'/30"next week and see what happens.

    Is it lunch yet?

  • Glad to hear that people are still up with training.  Sadly, my FTP test went as I expected, I dropped 10 watts.  Nothing like 2&1/2 weeks of inactivity to really help the legs feel great.  I am waiting to do my 5k until this weekend because of a local 5k I love to do.  I really think that this is going to be the beginning of a good stretch of training and i am really excited.

    Todd

  • It was pouring rain but the dog didn't care, so we ran 5 miles and him more as he was off leash as nobody nobody NOBODY out on the trail. I mean I was soaking wet but had a lovely time and so did Rudy. had a pretty decent pace for steady effort.. just cuz any slower and I woulda got too cold!! my socks got wet, my shoes squishy and it didn't matter! I breathed in the moment and just felt so alive out there running in the drizzle, raindrops with Rudy looking back at me dripping wet... it was great!

to the girlfriends out there: get your hair trimmed! I got mine done today and oh what a difference. this maintenance stuff gets caught up with tng.. so a rainy day is perfect for that. and yep to you thryoid patients with recent illness... it helps! shape it all up. shoulda gone in earlier.. oh yeah I was too tired! lol. talk at ya later, gone to SC for the weekend. to see brother and new wife. m
  • Yesterday the legs felt dead for the bike Intervals. I got them all done but felt tired all day. Couldn't sleep last night so I turned off the alarm when I was staring at it almost an hour before it was set to ring. Figured I'd cut the run to 1 hour or skip it. But then I woke up again, this time for good, at the alarm time. So I decided to just give it a go. Well it turned out to be AWESOME! I paced well and think it is the first time I have negative split a long run. Really improves my run mojo knowing that!
  • That is great Michele!!! so good. y'all take care and don't wreck. m
  • Michelle,

Nice workout.  It feels really good when a run goes well.  I managed to get in the pool today and rebounded from a lack luster FTP test earlier in the week, to swim a pretty even 14:40 for the 1000scy.  Tomorrow, I will try a 5k only a little bit of a hilly course.  It should be fun.

  • Got 3 swims in the lake this week, never felt more comfortable in the open water before.   Very happy and confident in my swim, don't know if I will be any faster come race day, but do know I will be coming out of the water feeling better.

Legs are very tired and achey, soooo  ready for a taper, which starts this coming week.   Mooseman 70.3   in 2 weeks from Sunday.     Shooting for a Clearwater spot, can't wait for race day !!

  • @Bob- You are braver than I! OWS starts next week for me. I CAN'T STAND that cold water rush through the zipper. But I need to get used to it.

@Todd- I would like your swim time please. Can we trade?

This is the first weekend that I did back to back rides per the plan. Had to get up and out early both days, but ultimately that was worth it once I got home. Forgot how hard it is and how tired the legs feel. But I was pleased with the efforts.
  •  Ahhhhhh,

Sometimes training can be a little crazy.  Managed to get the 5k in yesterday and my long ride.  5k was on a hilly course, but I held a consistent time from my last test.  The long ride was cut a little short, but it was actually great to be out on the bike.  Also, my kids got to do another fun run.  It is really fun seeing them blast off at the gun and trying to sprint the whole 1/2 mile.  I am sure it seemed like a marathon to my 4 year old.  He is still talking about his ribbon that he won.

    Todd

  • Two good riding days this weekend!

Saturday brought a strong-feeling ride with 2x15 @ FT; 2x25 @ 85%; ~75-80% home. 3:05 in the saddle.I see the FT and 85% numbers climbing a bit. FTP on the way up. Still not at my peak as I was in '08, but this whole health issue sent me for a loop. I'll just keep chipping away.

Today was ~2 hours in the saddle. Hit the 85%, but it was not an easy ride. 2.3 mile brick run after felt good.

This morning I was at a -48 TSB. I think that warrants a day off in tomorrow. Do y'all think so? That's a healthy hole, is it not? I never know. I feel quite good, but want to keep going strong, not use it all up then get fried.

Goal for the upcoming week(s)--be more consistent about the running--up the frequency, and stop bagging the bricks.

  • Hi All! Back in from epic tri week in North Dakota. I didn't get quite as much biking in as I was planned, but the family was just too fun!

Wednesday - Arrived in ND, went on a lovely sunset bike ride with my sister and dad. Dad bike was a motorcycle. No garmin or power data, but got in a good hour-ish of driving.

Thursday - Twenty-mile ride from Enderlein to Kindred, ND. Met dad and bro at the only place to have lunch in town - the bar - and had blts. Mayo is good for riding, yes? Then, I paced my niece in her first mile run.

Friday - 60-mile bike, which I'm counting as 80 because the last twenty were into the nastiest headwind I've ever seen. (40-50 mph.) Riding is way more fun when mom cooks you breakfast and you get your own personal SAG wagon to bring you lunch and water refills. I was about to go all Chrissie and send my aero helmet back but as I was tucked into the horns of my road bike, with head tucked just so, I gained a new appreciation for the aero helmet and tri bike sitting at home! I returned to the house just in time for a quick wardrobe change and then off to "run" a 5k at niece pace. We did a 43:50!  Woo-hoo! Did I mention it was between 85-90 all day? Tough day!

Saturday - Big race morning. 1/2 mary for me, which I ran EP, learning you can run a race as a workout -- you just have to shatter your legs on the bike the day before. Around mile 11 my legs started to feel pretty dead, but there was negative splitting and a fantastic sprint to the end. Mike Reilly was calling the race (Fargo Marathon) and got to practice my name! Very cool course, volunteers, and finish. This race ended in the middle of the Fargodome, with your face flashed all over big screens for thousands to see. Then, off to spectate because my sister, Jo Cobble, was out running her first marathon. I knew my legs were cooked when I couldn't beat the 9 year-old at block sprints while we waiting to see mom!

Tomorrow I'm thinking AIP and definitely Atyogaclass.

  • Awesome to see Moo'bers doing great things!

Attempted HI State TT Championships this morning. Headwind/crosswind on the way out and tailwind/crosswind on the way back. Coming around Kahana Bay the tail switched to cross with a vengeance and I almost bit it on the wet roads because it had been raining too. Was glad again I don't ride anything deeper than 404s. Anyway just before mile 21 per the little yellow whip came the dreaded thump, thump, thump. #%€£ nail in my rear tire. I love flatting a $110 tubular. Grrr. Trip to Island Tri and Bike this afternoon to replace tire and find out why my rear wheel shimmies at anything above beach cruiser speed. My new Pro+ hub I had built into the Zipp may be defective as there is definite looseness in it. Will find out more later this week. Better to know now than right before Moo. They are also going to repair the holey tubular so I'll have a second spare. I just chose not to carry a spare kit today(I do on Ironman days though) because I figure for 40K if I flatted I was done. Knock on wood but this is the first time I've ever flatted during a bike race or triathlon and I've been doing one or the other more or less since before junior year of high school or 22 years.

A little less than two weeks to Hawaii 70.3. I'll just have to approach it as a long catered training day and use it as a launch point for Moo training. Totally looking forward to Wisconsin. Booked an awesome hotel room as we'll be staying at the Best Western Inn on the Park. Closest we've been having stayed at the Sheraton in 2006 and the University Inn in 2007. Great for my support crewimage
