15 weeks to IMWI

Happy Memorial Day!

I started off with a nice run this morning listening to Hillsong "Run" and followed that with an open water swim.  continuing with some good training!  very humid, like I was dripping.

Sunrise Run with the Dog

friend Chris also an IMer, husband Joe and me at 8 this morning for my first swim in a lake since IMLP last year! finally I get in the required EN yardage for a swim!!!  and I am working on a new to me sighting technique that I believe is the correct one!!  basically I sight right after I breathe before I put my head down rather than popping my head up like a turtle!  less head profile but a bit of getting used to.  before I would breathe left, right and then in the middle when I sighted..!  yeah I know = wrong.  but nobody told me until master's swim this year!

Back at the house, I continued dripping with sweat by doing some gardening, housework and finally I laid down by the pool and it started to rain!!  All of my kids (5) are home and even friends over.  my son #2 leaves for Guatemala this Sunday so also trying to get his laundry caught up so he can pack! so leaving you.. to get back at it!!   m

  •  15 Weeks?  OMG, I'm getting nervous!

I love those sunrise runs too Marianne- just beautiful!

I got in the run this morning as well.  Man it's getting hot!  Was hoping to get in another Open Water Swim this afternoon but it doesn't look like that's gonna work (and it's getting too close to fish feeding time if you catch my drift).  Moo Jo and I did enjoy our first OWS yesterday though- the ocean temps vary between too cold and just right this time of year so you just gotta take it when you can!

Pics of Moo Jo at the beach:

  • smile and laugh out loud on the beach pic!!! we are nutty. I forgot MOO JO today!! yep, she is sitting here doing computer work!!
okay WI peeps, wake up out there!!! chime in. say something, post something or some pics or other!!!! we wanna hear from you lurkers! and you regulars. tell us about your long weekend!!! a joke? a pic, a quote... got one??
note we have another 3rd swim this week, up from 2 last week but other than that the regular routine... le'ts not get off to a boring start either... so whatcha got?? m
  • Got on the road bike today (reunited after ToC) for an easy 90 min ride then did my first OWS since Oct 2008! Water temp was 70. I really didn't want to put that stoopid wetsuit on and be reminded that I need to lose weight so I jumped in with just a bathing suit. Felt great!
Legs are slowly returning from CA. Maybe I should go back west together them! image
  • Gearing up for Eagleman in 2 weeks. I met Becky in Cambridge to do our RR. The Eagleman course lived up to the hype: it was hot, windy and noooo shade. Overall I feel prepared. I am ready to be done with it and join you ladies for MOOOO training.
  • Same as Kate, will be finishing HIM training in two weeks, starting the taper...feels nice!  Feels kind of weird though to be tapering when you all are ramping up volume.....I know, it will be there come June 21st...then it will be 12 weeks to IMWI.....YIKES   RR # 2 went ok...just trying to figure out how to ride steady on a very hilly/rolling course!!  I posted my WKO files in a thread in Race execution for Liberty HIM....I would appreciate any advice from the wsm or any of the nation peeps!  Thanks Nemo for your response already...u r so on top of helping people!

  • In from an easy four-ish mile recovery run after riding IMWI and the HHH at the EN Memorial Day camp! IMWI course? So not scary. And Moojo loved the ride, but wished there were more hills to climb.

After a big rides and runs this weekend and last, I my head is now exiting OS mode and is into training mode. I am also a hundred times more confident on my tri bike than I was at the start of the weekend. I "get" aero now. After riding a few nasty hills the kill my legs way, I figured out how to use my powertap and that watching my watts allows me to climb almost anything.

Great weekend all around -- and so fun to ride with such good company. I'm seriously looking forward to chica camp. Michele and I have already started on the riding/eating plan.

  • okay so hubby says I can get a power meter. 24 spoke Real design back wheel seems to be the tricky part. I have visited this so many times and will I commit, not sure?!! anyways, can't seem to go into LBS to get one, so have emailed Wheelbuilder. thinking the powertap since it seems to be less money (a factor) and I don't ride road bike that often. I have the Garmin 310Xt so this seems to lower the cost from say a year ago. I dunno. ??? me and gadgets, I am horrible. and I don't live close to you Nemo!!! ha. okay gotta scoot.
  • Marianne- your Garmin 310XT will work with the PT- so you only need to buy the hub. That will save you $$ for sure. Just make sure you tell Wheelbuilder that info. Get a quote from those guys and go from there. You will love having a Power Meter!
  •  Hey there folks!  I know many of us have a HIM coming up in the next few weeks before we hop into the full IM Training plans.  I wanted to post a reminder from the Wiki on what to do during the week AFTER your HIM to get you back on track with the IM plans ASAP.  Here's where you can find the info in The Wiki

Of course, I'm posting this partially to remind myself as well!

  • Thanks Nemo! You are always on top of it. image

    Eric
  • VISOR!!!! oh shoot, forgot to purchase one.
  • Got an OW swim and a great ride in early yesterday. So nice to workout without rushing to work! Going to buy powerball ticket tomorrow (220 million or something crazy like that) then I can train and play whenever and whereever I want!

Tapering for KS which is coming up far too quickly (this Sun). Cleaning, packing and gathering stuff to go. Think there are also a few other EN peeps racing whom I haven't had an opportunity to meet yet so that should be fun! Got my pre-race pedicure so I'm good to go. So far, been too busy to get the taper crazies.

Off to bed.... AIP 5:30am will come early! Night all!
  • It islate, but I wanted to chime in that things seem to be going really good.  I nailed every workout last week which was a minor miracle.  Also, I just came back for swimming in the 50M outdoor pool.  I hope to get some pics and maybe even a video up in order to keep up with Marianne.  Keep up with all the hard work.

    Todd

  • Settling back in to a good rhythmn on this end. Legs are still a little heavy but getting stronger each day. Still playing it by ear and not rushing into workouts just because they're on the schedule. This past weekend was actually my first weekend back on the tri-bike since oh....August of last year?? I'd busted it out pre-ToC for a ride or two, but not for anything long or anything serious. I was fully expecting to feel beat up and destroyed in the neck and arms + saddle, but nope. Felt like I'd been in that position all along which was sooooooo nice.

Today I set out for an FTP test. I've got a 45-50 minute loop that's rolling with one long hill and a few kickers but otherwise is fairly flattish (it's as good as I can do around here . I'm pumped to say that for the first time since November '08, my old bike self is back. So weird to see these numbers again, but exciting as well. '09 was just a bust for me. I never really got back to form and got myself in trouble when I tried to force it. Anywho, sorry to ramble. Initially, I was a little nervous that I'd neglected the tri bike for so long, but you know what- it turns out that's exactly what I needed.

  • Leigh--that is AWESOME! I knew your FTP was somewhere north of 220 by the way you were riding at ToC!!

  • Leigh- what Kitima said! You totally rocked TOC! I think my '10 is a little like your '09. I just need to be really careful!

Marianne- you can still get a visor. The price went up on June 1, that's all. (but shhhhh, I bet if you try that June 1 link in the visor thread it will still work- I don't think Rich has remembered to pull it down yet-shhhhhhh you didn't hear that from me!)

Todd- glad to hear things are going well for you! Yes, we need more pics!!!!

I swam this morning, ugh, even that felt a little crappy after TOC. But my weight & eating are back in check so thats good news. Hopefully I'll have my "spring" back in time for Eagleman next weekend!
  • @Leigh.... dam girl!!!!! Them's some impresssssiiiivvvveee numbers! Think I better bring some rope if I'm gonna keep up with you!

Got up and swam (even though I reallllyy didn't wanna). A short run on tap tomorrow and then I'm off to see the wizard, Dorthy and Toto! Other than a minor bar tape issue (just needed abt 10 more inches on the roll durned it!), things are rolling along!

Thanks Nemo for the link to the wiki! Will be sure to read that one as I have 1 week between HIM and start of IM 12 wk plan! Back to work!
  • Looks like things are just humming along in here...keep on keeping on, you guys are all rock stars for getting the work in with such busy lives. Yay to open water swims, new power meters, boosted FTPs and 50 LCM....and Moo Jo, of course. ! image

    P
  • went to store and no visor link!!??? yes I see the EN one, but what about the other one

  • Go to the EN Chica Visor Thread- there's a link in there. The thread should be in the woman's forum.
  • I've been lurking in here for a number of weeks now... trying not to feel like I am doing the wrong training.  I have a HIM June 12th and have been focused on that.  Thankfully I am in the first of a 2 week taper... but I'm kinda hoping "taper" meant week off.  image

My goal is to make it through the HIM and assess where I'm at with respect to IMWI.  It will be my first IM and I'm tired... not just from the training, but from work, kids' activities, chores and so forth...  Good thing I paid a lot of money to register, I've certainly got skin in the game.  After a bit of a break post HIM, I'll likely set my goals on the IMWI camp.  Breaking up the season helps make it manageable.

My running and biking have been good - I'm off my peaks from last year (which were right around this time) but last year I trained outside through the winter (lived in HI) and this year I wimped out (back home in MN).  I'm a bit worried about my swim... but figure 30 - 40 mins in the HIM swim won't be so bad.  I need to get out in the open water this weekend and try the wetsuit I'm borrowing from a buddy.  It'll be my first wetsuit swim.

  • Hi David!

Well, you're not alone. Some of us are feeling as you are. That darn WKO+ lets me see where I was then (2008) and where I am now (2010), and I too am off--the biking a bit, but especially in the running. I have had some health issues, and they come with impacting performance, so I really feel like I am struggling up hill to get back to where I was. It's kind of depressing. All that work, all these years, others build on what they did and improve, and I'm back to square one. BUT I have a ton of race experience under my belt, and 2 IMs to draw on. That's worth something. I' go in and out of an enthusiastic head space about doing all this again, and I am certainly questioning  why. The only thing left is that I want to do this one with the EN peeps. Whatever my life has needed through Ironman I have learned. When this is done, I will be moving on, that I know for sure. Hang in there, we'll get through. Sorry for the rambling.

PS--you're not doing the wrong training. The HIM build up like that is perfect IMO. You'll rest up, then take on race prep and be ready for it. I've done the same. I've been working on the HIM Beg plan, and I'm into week 14. I may do the Aquabike in a couple of weeks, but I used the plan to get me ready to handle the rigors of race prep. It worked for me in 2008, and I thought it was a good way to go. You'll be fine in that regard...of that I am sure.

  • Leigh - Total rockstar. So inspiring!

Congratulations to everyone on all this swimming!

David -- I hear you on the swim. I have a HIM on the 19th and haven't swam anything longer than a 400 consecutively yet this season.

After two whole days off, I just had a fantastic day of training. 2x1 mile and 4 x 1/2 mile at TP -- and my feet just wanted to run IP. I love how big bike weeks also seem to work on the run. I also was AIP for a good drill set.
  •  EN Chica cheerleader checking in- You guys are all Rocking it! way to go, keep up all the hard work!

  • So I was going to comment on my race simulation the other week (awesome) and complain about my nagging hamstring issues but I am taking Marianne's comments to heart - "chime in and don't be boring". So here's my non-watt related contribution: Spent Memorial Day weekend in the UP of northern MI. It is beautiful up there, hilly (vs Chicago) and their highway system has very wide shoulders and beautiful smooth asphalt (again as compared to Chicago's pothole hell), makes for fabulous riding. I made the long drive with my two youngest children in order to attend my grandmother's 80th birthday party and may I just say that as a 41 year old mother of three with a full-time job, my grandma thinks I'm crazy. The comments about my training all weekend are priceless (you're doing what? now? In this heat? etc) and demonstrate that we have very different levels of stress and pain tolerance (has nothing to do with her being 80, it's always been the case - something about 4 kids, brandy, heavy smoking and no exercise which now results in diabetes, high blood pressure, something else that requires Plavix etc, she's incredulous when she hears of someone her age who 'doesn't take a single pill!'). If you do the math on our ages, she was 39 when I was born, 39! Can you imagine being destined for polyester and perms at 39? IMO it's great to be a woman in 2010 vs 1950. Enjoy the training!

  • Can you imagine being destined for polyester and perms at 39?

Heather- that made me cringe just thinking about it!! Oh the horror!!!!

I did my long run this morning. 90 min in the humid heat. Good acclimation for Eagleman I guess! Have a great weekend everyone!
  • Heather, okay now tell us about the RR!!! the weekend sounds great though and I can just hear the comments!! ha. it is hot here.. and oh yeah, time to train for an Ironman!! ha so we are all getting up early and by 6 on wheels and doing our thang!! I am trying out new saddles, and this affected my weekend of riding as I was in pain. Tooth Pain ranks high on yuck stuff and so does saddle pain..needless to say all I could think about was "one thing" and that was getting off the bike!!! ha.. to that end i had a great 5 mile brick run on Saturday .... now today, I rode 2 hours with friends and that helped me take my mind off my seat!! just took son to airport for his trip to Guatemala so an emotional day for me. now at home, just tidying up and I posted a ? in General Forum, micro mgt this week thread to help plan out my weeks as I want to do a century this Saturday!! it starts at 7 and you could see that 6 hours will put me finishing at 1, high heat!! people are flaking everywhere, wish they would start it at 6. some people raced KS today so anxious to hear how that went. m
