Annual Physical

Okay, so I'm scheduling my annual physical for later this month. I've seen, through various other posts and questions, that these are the things I should get looked at in addition to the regular stuff that's included:

-standard panel with PSA, iron, hematocrit, liver enzymes, lipids, etc.

-testosterone and thyroid.

-TSH, T3 and T4 also because the conversion by the liver is essential and depending on what TSH is doing plays a big role in interpreting what the body is doing there.

-Vitamin D test

Anything else for us endurance-y folks?

I'm not at the age YET where I have to worry about the more 'invasive' procedures, but those will be coming in the next few years.

  • Don't forget the Lipid panel (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides).

    If you're feeling fatigued, throw in a vit B12 level too. Had mine checked recently and it's low. You saw me eat all those steak burritos at ToC---what is UP with that?!

    @Kitima, that's what I call the 'regular stuff'.

    My nutritionist last night also mentioned getting the B12 checked too, so I'll add that to my checklist.

  • anyone want to churn out a master list I can put on the wiki?? image
  • Sure man, what exactly you looking for?
  • Greg, I will PM you...thanks!
  • Okay, FINALLY got my labs back, and I wanted to ask all you medical types if these numbers are okay. The lab results show within the 'normal' range, but for some reason I think that the lab's sense of 'normal' might not be good for what we do around here in da haus...

    LIPID PANEL:
    Cholesterol = 129 (<200 indicated as normal range)
Triglycerides = 36 (<150 normal)
HDL = 57 (>39 normal)
    LDL = 65 (<100 normal)
LDL/HDL = 1.14 (<3.55 normal)
Vitamin B12 = 778 (250-1100 normal - that's QUITE a range)

    Testosterone = 387 (241-827 normal)

    Vitamin D = 74 (15-75 normal)

    CBC:
    Hemoglobin = 13.8 (13.0to 17.0 normal)
    Hematocrit = 40 (37.0-49.0 normal)

    TSH = 2.0 (0.3-5.1 normal)
    **NOTE: my doc wouldn't do the T3 and T4 unless the TSH results came back abnormal.

    Obviously, there's a bunch of other stuff on this lab report that I have NO idea what it means.

    Are my numbers good enough for this craziness that is Triathlon?!?
  • Did they run a ferritin? Much better for looking at anemia than H/H.

    Sorry I didn't get that in before you went.

  • Maybe it would be under some fancy-schmancy latin medical name? Know what that is?

    I asked them to do both type of iron tests, maybe they missed one.
