@Matt--I see it's time we bring you up to speed with the chica devised training lingo. AIP= ass in pool. AOB = ass on bike. AOR = ass on run, FOP = feet on pavement. GPV, well, I'm not saying. But we have one, you don't, and we rule. Not sure I missed any other pearls we've come up with....
@Todd--If I ran 13 miles in 90'...some doc would have me peeing in a cup. Nice!!!! Plus a baby girl new to the world to boot. Stressful, but awesome on both counts.
Todd- I love the 3 am CS. I mean seriously why not just let it go another 2-3 hours? Even the peds doc(moi) has known since 9 pm the previous night that this was likely going to section, the baby is tolerating it well and mom is comfortable with her epidural. I'm still debating neonatalogy versus cardiology and stupid as it seems this point is actually a consideration. Do I really want to spend the rest of my professional career attending 3 am deliveries when I'm on nights? Although I will train out of having to attend the routine CS though and then it'll just be the stroll in off the street and drop your 25 wker off types.
Matt- Welcome and I hope not to see you on Oct 9th actually I'll be out cheering on the run course in town until just before my shift starts in the med tent at 4 so if you could finish by then? I'll be working the 4-10 in the med tent again this and then we'll cheer on the finishers until midnight. Lots of fun to volunteer and provides plenty of motivation to keep training in hopes of becoming one of the chosen ones.
Speaking of training, I feel pretty recovered likely from the rather low effort level extended in the HIM last weekend. Thinking 3 hr ride Saturday and then the crit sponsored by my local club/shop on Sunday before going in to work. Women just ride 30 min plus 1 lap. My goal is to not get spit off on the prime lap like I did last year. I'm not really a sprinter type so it'll require a bit of digging deep which is good for the soul and fitness. Will pick the tri bikes up from Tribike Transport today. Four days for the bikes to travel less than 130 miles. Hmmm.
Hey Lynne, nice, but I'm pretty sure that if I try to pull of finishing before 4, you will definitely get to see me in the med tent! How about I look for you when I am heading out of town at the begining of the run or around 10-12 on Ali'i instead :-)
welcome Matt! love to have you! Todd cool on ob gyn, hey I had five of my own and yep they never came at nice hours!! just a couple of hours of sleep! I remember with the 4th child.... me telling hubby it was time and he said laying in bed asleep "are you sure?"... and i just looked at him, my 4th PG... "yes I am sure!",, I had waited until the alst possible moment to tell him, the baby was overdue by 8 days and I was huge!! on the top of the doc's list... "are you sure?" smile. 1 C section with first child and then no more!! that thing hurt ! !!! induced with #2 and no more of that, that thing hurt!! so then next 3, I just waited! and they hurt too!! oh my. and by the 5th child, when they said "we want you to visit the other doctors in the clinic." i said, "nah, no thanks!" I just wanna see you and if I get them when baby is due, then okay! and by 5th child?? told hubby , "now look when we get there, you FIND the anesthesiologist no matter how far dilated I am!" early in the mornings, dark and we head out of town, with husband stopping in to get gas on the way!!! with child #1 and also had taken a shower, shaved and put on Polo shirt! he buys snacks at conv store and I am in pain!! it was hilarious afterwards!! even now I get the giggles of him! dang that birthing stuff hurts!! so this Ironman stuff is a piece of cake!! compared. smile.

Friday: rest day! and I slept 11 hours! but got 6 the night before. no football practice and no school and light rain lulled me even deeper to sleep! and I thought hmmm if I get up I can sneak to my computer and figure out this Power stuff and update my garmin and also new bike shoes! size 41. because of course if I do any chores I might wake up the family... big century ride tomorrow, I hope you have a good Friday!! rain here. m
I was very tempted to sleep in today and run at lunch, but I sucked it up and got the run done before work....just so I could check in with the group and say I got it done.
Legs are definitely trashed and TSB in pretty low but I'm still hitting the workouts and feeling strong. 10 miles this morning in 1:01:41 with 3 x 1mi at TP 5:37, 5:38, 5:37. Intervals were slower than usual but still under my target and the effort felt about right, hard but controlled.
Considering the fatigue in my legs right now I'm probably going to skip the brick after tomorrows long ride so that my legs are in decent shape to race on Sunday.
I'm actually kind of nervous about racing a sprint triathlon on Sunday. I've only done 1 ever and it was 5 years ago. Plus I haven't been in a wetsuit or swam more than 1000m straight since last Nov.
As some people may have seen on facebook, Theresa and Abigail helped take some pictures of my new bike, I'll get another thread going with some pictures.
Marianne, enjoy the easy day today and have a good ride tomorrow. Don't worry about the power stuff at all, just ride and let the garmin record everything. There are enough people here to help you sort it out afterwards.
Matt - You'll love the sprint. You just get to go fast! I'll make you a deal: If you don't worry about wetsuit swimming next week, I'll stop worrying about breaking out the wetsuit at High Cliff.
Todd - Love the running story! And, yes, Marianne, I am sufficiently frightened of ever giving birth now.
I had a great swim last night. I forgot how much fun it is to do sprints and swim fast. I even watched the big clock on the wall and didn't wear a watch. I'm amazed how much better my form is when swimming fast. Must mean my head must be getting in the way.
I was awake early, on this day of rest, so I zip-tied the cage and universal computer mount to my bike. It is looking way more pro now. I'm thinking of checking out the one-hour yoga class at the gym after work. Aaah. Stretching and core.
okay will do packing up stuff right now. Beth I have more horror stories but will spare you the gory details!! ha. I remember about to give birth to my first child and some woman going into excruciating detail on what was about to happen to me and what happened to her. I stood transfixed at work at the copy machine, wishing I couldnt hear it!! I swore I would never do that to anybody so what I told you is nothing!!! ha. Oh MAMA!! but what I am leaving out is the sweet smell and feel of the newborns fuzzy head up against you, skin to skin and baby looking at you on your first night together, adrenalin keeps you awake and you look down at the baby, for me a son first... and love goes pretty deep! so much so that the ache is real when separated! DAvid was 2 before I left him overnight.. and that was for a work conference down in Dallas for a secret clearance govt gig!! yeah, me with a clearance!! now that was a weekend, me in the room with some govt geeks complete with pocket protectors in their white shirts!!
and this has nothing to do with me riding a century tomorrow so scooting!! m

My Favorite! HOP (Head On Pillow) we don't use that one nearly enough!!!
Nice run Todd and way to fit it into one crazy schedule! I can't figure out a way to leave any speed but I will sure try to provide some motivate you.
Thanks Linda, I like AIP as that is probably the best way to describe my horrible attempts at swim workouts.
