RACE WEEK IMCDA 2010
OK Boys and Girls! This is it. Race week is upon us. Schedule is pretty light this week but try to hit the workouts. Most important thing this week is to stay loose! Workouts have a small section to rev the heart rate. DON'T go and do more! There is no fitness to be gained this week. Hopefully all the personal admin stuff is done. Nothing to do now but pack and travel. Dropped bike off with TriBikeTransport on Sunday, so hopefully it is there on Thursday!
WATER TEMP = 59 degrees as of this morning and weather is calling for 85 on Wednesday. Couple days over 70 and water could be over 60 degrees! Weather for RaceDay is still undetermined. Calling for 72 and partly cloudy! Forecasting weather in that neck of the woods is liking pissing in the wind! Don't rely on forecast and come prepared!
ADMIN STUFF:
Get signed up for dinner and pay. 4 keys talk meeting on Friday morning at K-Swiss booth in village. Dinner is 6:30 pm at The Wine Cellar at 313 Sherman Avenue. You will run by it when you finish!!

Tip of the day - bring a pair of old socks to wear while you are waiting for the start, your tootsies will get cold!
I keep vacillating between sheer jumping up and down excited to wanting to curl up into a fetal position. HOLY CRAP! oh no.... HOLY CRAP! oh no.... EEEEK
I did go to the chiro last week and I am totally pain free for the first time in 10 years. Hope it all stays together until I tear it up on SUNDAY, yes THIS SUNDAY.
Keep smiling!
Patrick
The NWS has been wildly inaccurate in its PAC NW weather prognostication in the past months or so, so take this with much salt:
THE UPCOMING WEEKEND WILL COINCIDE WITH A DRYING AND
WARMING TREND.
Translates to: SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT...PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGHS IN THE
LOWER TO MID 70S. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S.
I like the tip about the old socks.
And the part about jumping up and down in excitement or wanting to curl up in the fetal position are my sentiments EXACTLY!
Can't wait to see everyone! Travel safely folks.
See everyone on Thursday!
En route to CDA - stayed in Vegas last night for the kids. Had a great 45' bike in Zion National Park and 30' run - 90 degree heat and 4000 feet of elevation felt different than cool San Diego. Also did a fun hike this evening with the whole family. Spectacular place.
Tomorrow long drive to Idaho Falls.
Still have a full day of work today. Final packing tonight and on the plan early tomorrow. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone at dinner tomorrow night.
Safe travels to all.
Matt
Good luck and have a great time.
I'll be arriving late tonight or tomorrow noon.
I thought I would share what I do to scout the course, to make sure I ride the "key section" as recommended.
I DRIVE to the intersection of English Point and Lancaster, via the bike course route. This is the TOP of the English Point Hill - the longest and steepest of the course. There is a large gravel parking area there where I park and start my ride. Follow the bike course (should be marked on the road, and the directions on the web site are accurate) by turning right onto Lancaster..
After about 16 miles of riding endless hills, including the "Ohio Match loop", you'll be at the intersection of Rimrock and Dodd, heading South (back towards CDA). Instead of following the course right on Dodd, go STRAIGHT on Rimrock about 2 miles, and you'll be at English Point Rd. Turn Left, and it's 3+ miles back to the parking lot, first down and around to Hayden Lake, then up the hill. This last mile+ is very important to scout out, to learn how to control your effort and keep the watts down as best as possible. I think it's good to do it at the end of the practice ride, to simulate how it appears on the second loop on race day.
Dodd, Govt Way, and 4th are all pretty straightforward roads, don't really need to be scouted on the bike. You should drive along them as you get to and from this loop ride.
On another day, I usually ride the run course from town along the Lake and back, about 30 minutes, another 15 if you go the the bike turn around instead of the run turnaround.
These two rides incorporate the key portions of the bike course.
Safe travels to all.

Heading into CDA as we speak. Taking kids to the park, getting checked in, taking turns with the wife, Lisa, running while the boys play. Then we head to the house to get set up. Later, we will head back for a swim with the kiddos.
We should be in at 10.

See everyone tonight.
Thanks for the vaseline tip Paul. I have been getting super cold. I am going to give that a shot. My swim is going to suffer in this cold water.
Tellmyour families that we'll have a tent, some food, and the EN banner in the parking lot across the steet from 501 Lakeview. Look for big brown building Commercial Printing. Maybe bring some snacks or sodas if they want
On the bike, look for me at the top of the little hill at Lakeside and Rimrock. That's kinda where the hills start so I'll get your mind right :-)
On the run I'll be up at the turnaround from about 3-6p, then behind the finishline with my secret squirrel bracelet until about 9p, then let's all meet at the cda brewery, on Lakeside, after 9p
Monday, meet for coffee at Java. I'll be here until about 0830, not sure what time my flight is out of Spokane.
I rode the hills today at about 9a. It was windy out there, with a cross from about 2pm all the way from the first out and back down Rimrock to the right on Lancaster. From Lancaster looked like a solid headwind all the way back to the lake. Just be smart, stay low in the bars and you'll be fine. Also, definitely an advantage to keep a legal distance behind peeps into the wind.
Good luck, call my cell tonight if you need anything! 626-203-3278
Good luck to all. Nice meeting everyone. Safe, smart racing means victory!
