11 weeks to IMWI
well you 12 weekers got one week out of the way!! yeah for you and us 20 weekers are keepin on so that the schedule seems pretty normal.
"Guess our 40K TT" in clubhouse forum is about my TT yesterday if you want the "race report". I also put a ? in the General forum "Micro" about this week and next weeks' tng before IMWI camp. Basically what do we change if anything? haven't heard back but check there if you are interested.
really nothing to report! oh yeah, I did sign up for IM TX!! and pretty excited about it too as two GFs did too with me. you know I was training in the winter anyways!! so a bit more time on the road! it would take me about 30' to get dressed for winter riding!! so at least I can get my "money's worth" out of the training! m

Even though it has the worst name, and it made by a cyclist with a porn-star mustache, I discovered DZ Nuts this weekend. I had a sample pack. I thought I might as well try out chamois cream. Huge win! I'm never going back to riding without it. I bet I could ride the old pink Adamo with the EN ladies team shorts and be happy.

55' run done at 73 degrees at 6:30 am with 70 degree dew point. So. Hot. Did 2 x mile at tempo--which, in that humidity, meant picking up the pace for two miles. First one was @ tempo, second was not.
Hey, I'm a northern girl, and we ain't used to that! AIP coming up later today. That will feel real good.

I got my run done (2x1mile) this AM with just enough time to take a rinse shower and hit the pool before work. That worked out pretty good this week- but I need a little more wiggle room in that schedule and those fast intervals in the pool were really hard after the swim. Sooooom next week I think I'll get out on the run 30 min earlier and I might swap the Friday swim workout for the Monday workout. Looks like Friday is the "long/steady" swim kinda day so that should work out. On the positive side, I figure doing it this way will certainly prepare me for swimming when I'm already 1 hour in and pretty tired! So if my swim at IMWI goes longer than anticipated, I'll be ready.

Congrats to eveyone for getting through Week 1 (or 12 if you are on the 20 week plan). I personally find the first week of an IM plan to be by FAR one of the hardest for me. It is typically a big bump in volume and a good shock to the system.
I wont say that the weeks get an easier, but I do find they get much more managable and your body will begin to adapt to the longer workouts and overall volume increase. Just keep in mind no matter how you feel your body is adapting and these plans are tested and proven to have you ready for your race.
Finished off last week with a horrible workout on Saturday morning. Went out to do 2.5 hours at .85 and a brick and blew up 1:10 in. Suffered back home in under two hours and skipped the run all together. Somehow an hour later I had one of the best swims of my life... go figure.
Sunday, I was bummed about the failed workout and feeling overtrained and not ready...but I had a race to do. Well my mind wasn't there but my body was and I had an amazing day with an awesome race. As usual, Jim Hansen showed up and had a great result as well.
Got up this morning and went for an easy run to enjoy the great weather. Hit my pace on the garmin and just ran for fun and by feel. ended up with 9.4 miles in 1:01. I'm not sure why but my easiest and best feeling runs always seem to be the day after a race.
Have to get AIP at lunch or tonight!
Less than two weeks to Madison Camp...can't wait!!!

I took a rest morning. well I didn't feel like doing the 2 x 1 mile cuz I am considering doing a 5k this Saturday which would count for the work. and my legs felt like they had raced yesterday. but will swim with kids in 2 hours. have my suit already on. husband got up at 4:50 a.m. for outta town so I got up early anyways and my day was busy yesterday so I got caught up here. I actually ran 28 miles last week and either the saddle is causing that upper ham, piriformis or what, killed me on the TT so I am heading out the bike store for saddle search. Will bring chica saddles to camp. I mean the pain was on a ten!! hit me right where the leg meets the glute, what is that the groin?? so I need a narrow saddle with a cut out. I have about got this gear nailed except for seat!! and 1.5 weeks to camp. so actually I am not going to focus on riding long per se but fixing the saddle! got the new bike shoes so that went well. and new helmet is a go too. Trying to get the tech stuff on power but not my forte so thanks to y'all for helping me. just trying to think thru the next 1.5 weeks of training. Personally I think some of the most useful workouts are the swim/bike or the bike/run combos. m

OH did the run this am and then skipped out on the swim to go to my fav core class! Will do swim tomorrow for sure.
Saturday's bike was tough (I bonked with a couple miles to go). I had a son's baseball game to get to so I skipped the run. Sunday's ride was tougher so I dialed down the intensity and only went 2:45. But I added a solid 30 minute run. I was wiped Sunday afternoon. I slept off and on until about 3pm then I started to knock off some weekend chores. It is so nice getting these workouts done by mid-morning - most of my neighbors haven't even grabbed their newspapers and I am returning from a 3 hour ride.
I wasn't sure how I would feel today, but I got to the pool at 5:30 and knocked out a solid swim. I finally asked one of the masters coached for some tips which was nice. It is always hard trying something new in the water, but I am sure his tips will help. I then got in my 60 min run with three miles at sub 7 or so. I looked at the wrong day for the run workout, I only needed 2 x 1 mile at that pace. It felt great though! I hit the grocery store on the way to work and could not pass up the donut aisle! Wow did they (yes, more than 1!) taste good. I earned it right???
Hoping for an OWS tomorrow morning... scary!
Could you all whip my sorry arse re core. I have slacked off big time. No, slacked off is generous. Stopped. Haven't done one thing in weeks. Not good. I even like doing it, I truly forget. M-W-F 10'-15' is enough, right?

94 degrees with 100% humidity is not the ideal condition for doing an hour run with 3 X 1 mile repeats especially on tired legs from the weekends bike, but I suffered through them and strengthened the mental six pack. Pace was not where it should have been (6:35,6:44, 6:48) but considering the conditions I was very pleased to get them done.
Note to self : set alarm louder so you do not sleep through it on such oppressive days.
Followed run with a great 50 min swim. I thought I was going to be toast in the pool but felt surprizingly well.
@ Matt, congrats on another great race. What surprizes me most is that you have these great races with no taper. I don't know how you do it. I know being 29 helps, but don't your legs ever get tired?
Had a solid start to week 2 (12 week plan). Got out the door for the 3 x 1 mile run intervals a little after 5:00 this morning. Took a while to wake up the legs but felt decent even in the oppressive humidity hitting the intervals at 6:15, 6:07, 6:04 (targeting 5:55-6:15). Did some core work after the run and plenty of stretching.
Then had a "come to Jesus" swim session at lunch to make up for my horrific swim experience yesterday in a sprint tri (race report on my blog). I swam with purpose and focus to get back to where my swim was the past few weeks. I hit all intervals perfectly and on pace or slightly faster than the last couple weeks. 3000m session in 50 minutes.
Doing the bike intervals with 35' brick run tomorrow morning. Aim is to hold >300 watts on the 4 x 10' sets.
AIP for 2,800y. Under an hour. Way to go. LP!

Going to add bricks back into the schedule this week. Kept the running a little light last week following the HIM but this week is back to business as usual. That being said, it's been a loooooooooong time since having 5 runs/week on the schedule. Oof!
Switching Tuesday and Wednesday due to life. Bike /run for me tomorrow.

And core work... I was 2x/week, now I am looking- "where can I fit it in?"
I am back at it trying to get in a good training zone. Last week was a recovery week after a disaster of a 1/2IM. Jim and Matt make me jealous with all their good results. I managed to get at early this morning and hit my intervals right on. The swim tonight was just awesome. Swimming in a 50m pool as the sun sets. I wish I had my camera. Keep up the good work.

Did the run right after work this morning. Cooler than last week and hit the paces right on with less than 1 sec between the two. Much better than last week when I was 23 sec slower on second. Took nap at friend's house as mine is still under construction and then AIP this afternoon. After the disaster of a open water swim race this weekend, I have to be better about swimming. 15 min slower than last year but higher up in the field. It was like an Endless Pool in that you kept swimming and then didn't go anywhere. The current was strong and the surf breaks were rocking with the North swell, not typical summer conditions but the surfers liked it.

I remember that route... I rode that many times when I was living in Hawaii (at The Colony in Hawaii Kai). A beautiful ride with good climbs, a consistent wind, and great views. The small shoulders always scared me. Enjoy it, but be careful! I'd often run past the golf course to Sandy Beach... just a great 6 mile run. Wow, I miss Hawaii.
Hitting the bed stoopid early tonight to be ready for the 1:45 long run in the morning.
The humidity has finally lifted around here so I'll be doing yesterday's run with intervals this afternoon. I had every intention to CRUSH those TP intervals yesterday...The theme from Rocky was playing on my mental iPod (I don't run with one), I was concentrating on having good form when about 2 minutes into the interval everything stopped: the legs, the lungs. In my mind, I was running like I stole something but my body was walking. No problemo--I walk with a purpose for 30 seconds and try to ramp up to TP again. I was able to hold it for another 3 minutes when the power went out again. Because I'm pig-headed, this pattern continued for 30 minutes until I finally called it and figured the run would be the Tues 40 min run with strides.
So big props to all my EN pals in Southern climes---how you guys and gals train in those temps and humidity is amazing to me!
I also did the BRICK workout today (wanted one last ride on Fiona before she is packed for Wisconsin). It was 3x12's but I did them as 3x10's 'cause that's what the stretch of road I have here allowed. I have to say,it was the first "good" FTPish ride I've had on Fiona all season. I think I'm finally adjusting to her aggressive position. I've put clip on aerobars back on Hobbs for this weekend so I can stay aero on those workouts.
Run felt good too- for some reason those Brick runs always feel great to me.

I learned why we do our workouts in the morning -- it gives us a chance to re-do them in the evening if they weren't working out. Like Jim, my legs were pretty dead in this morning's attempt at a 3x13. Hips and lats were tight from swimming last night, so I got in the run, loaded up some of Leigh's videos, and did some serious stretching. I feel much better and think the intervals will go much better after work.

Took a rest day yesterday for 2 reasons. 1) TSB was -42 and I was feeling it!! 2) And, as you FB friends know, put down my 17 yo dog yesterday. Tough day all around

rained here so no lake swim for me, and raining but took dog for a run/walk thing! so what would that humidty be? 100%!! then I too tortured myself out in the garage on a mat with a tennis ball wedged underneath me. still feeling it from Sunday's TT. hope tomorrow to be myself.
