  • OK- back in the saddle again! I rode this morning but got caught in the rain! Whoooops, I guess that's why they call them "scattered" storms, cause it looked just fine when I started! Spent about 5 min under a renters house before I was able to continue on. I had to skip the run because I needed time to wipe down the bike. Around here- getting the bike wet means getting salt & sand all over it and that combo isn't a good one for an aluminum bike!

I can't believe I'll be doing a "long run" again tomorrow. Didn't we just do that? HA HA HA!
  • Can't believe it's already week 4 and that RR#1 is coming up at the end of the month. hahahahaha.

I've got to say, the plans this year have been different and fun. I like the mix up of big training days etc. Taking a rest day today. Killed too much time to get to the pool and to be honest...I'm cool with that. Will sneak in an open water swim this weekend when it's a bajillion degrees out. image Didn't formally test yesterday, but I'm confident I know where I'm at on the bike. The weekly TT has kept me honest on that front.
  • Good IMWI course review. Definitely review transition areas upon arrival. They are weird -- but in a good way.

I'm looking forward to post-race team breakfast with all of you at Lazy Jane's for scones.

I bitty OWS last night -- my replacement Walgreen's goggles failed epically, so I did Pose water polo style drills instead. Then, I went for a very fast four-mile brick run. I wish I would have had my Garmin on, but the legs felt heavy, but very good.

Back to the pool for me tonight. But I'm doing Thursday morning long run tomorrow because it is my favorite workout.

  • Ran this morning, still feel foggy/heavy from the weekend. Or is it the blanket of humidity hanging over TN??? Very soggy morning!!

Moo Camp was good in another way, I lost 4lbs over the weekend!! Down to ideal race weight. Think I'll stay there??? I  doubt it

Hey me too! I'm down 4 to ideal weight. Just had to have my husband crack his face on the pavement. (Gallows humor, I know. ) That and getting my thyroid levels back to normal. Seems I almost have a metabolism again--not to mention I feel good overall with the bod functioning better.

I have to say that eating healthy without a lot of crap during times of stress really made a difference for me. OK, there was the honkin' piece of cake at MGH, but that was emergency stress eating, and much needed.

  • Gina- that's cause you left before the dessert TTT. Oh....My.....God!!! I gained 4 lbs on that splurge alone!

Honey, you earned the whole damn cake IMO!! Ok, I  have come to the dark side and am going to read The Paleo Diet. It will be interesting to see if I  begin to dislike cookies.....

  • Nemo, I missed the TTT and still put on 5 lbs... actually Sunday night when I got home I was down a few lbs and Monday I think I drink about 300oz of water as I was up 5 on Tuesday :-)

I started to get back into the swing of things today. AIP at 5 this morning, not a good swim, but not bad either, took about 1000 M just to feel right again. Also got out for a lunch run with 4 x .5 mi @ HMP. I nailed the intervals but was suffering a little on the way home...maybe the heat index of 94 has something to do with it :-)
  • I'm afraid to get on the scale after the dessert TTT. I've been on the Paleo diet for 6 weeks now and let me tell ya...that vanilla milkshake and Oreo ravioli were DELICIOUS.
  • somehow I did a sprint triathlon today! and the knee is holding so I have another foot up out of the pit!... so I went for a lake swim and did 2600 and then a bit later went out for a ride and rode about 1.5 hours.. garmin flaky so not sure on miles but did 2 intervals to test out the legs and then ran 3, drove straight to my massage where she worked on my hamstrings! I don't have a "race tee" for today but linda...

llittle inside secret to finding MOJO. yesterday wore my IMFLA tshirt all day with run shorts, day before wore my IMLP visor, rode my bike today in IMCDA kit.. certain times when you gotta pull out and WEAR the MOJO!! that and some new Chica music to keep me hopping on my run even in hot temps!!
  • Monday was travel and Tuesday I was just tired.
Wednesday I put the road bike on the trainer and pretended I was doing an OS workout. 1 hour and off. Felt good but I knew I was still tired.

Today I went for a run- plan was to keep it under an hour and add speed if desired. I did well on both.

As of tomorrow I am back on "the plan". No testing for me any more.
Have to shuffle my RR back a week due to family obligations. I can NOT believe I am riding a RR in 9 days!
  • anyone else find that the rest & recovery weeks are the sleepiest?? (meaning all the extra time to sleep still isn't enough?)

anyone else find that the rest & recovery weeks are the sleepiest??

I  feel like I  could sleep for 12 hrs !!

  • Oh, yes, Leigh! I want to go back to bed. (Insert bedhead smiley face)

  • Well this is a testing week for me, and I have to say I was not looking forward to it considering I haven't tested since before my January injury. But had some minor life "frustrations" this week, and even though we are hitting 100+ on the heat index I went out and did both tests (more because I needed the endorphins than anything else!). It made my week to find out that my vDot is the same as it was before my injury (41), which was when I did probably some of the best running of my life, and that my FTP went from 138 to 156. Just wanted to share, especially with the awesome advice I got while rehabbing my injury Definitely feel confident about IMOO now!

  • Great work Jennifer I'm feeling sleepy this week as well. I still managed to get a long run in yesterday. IT was HOT! I'm looking forward to swimming today.

    Eric
  • Nice work Jennifer. Chances are both your vdot and FTP are actually higher as the heat wave we have been having will definitely impact your results.

At least you will be ready if it ends up being hot at IMWI this year!
  • I did the run yesterday afternoon---90 degrees and lots of humidity. Since I complain so much about how cold it is in Upstate NY and now that summer is here, I figured I would embrace and learn to like the heat. It is summer afterall and won't last long around here.

OWS this morning---choppy which made for a good exercise in staying in the box and concentrating on form.

Yes, Leigh...all want to do is SLEEP. Is it time for nap yet?

    WOOO HOOOO!!! That's awesome! Congrats!

I REALLY wanted to sleep in this morning instead of swimming, but I got AIP at 6:30 and got it done. With the ability to swim OWS on the weekends with relative ease (besides, hubby always wants to go surf so I'm usually in the ocean anyway), I'm sorta thinking about moving that Friday swim to Sat or Sun so I have just one day a week where I can "sleep in" and get up leisurly. I'd probably still be awake at the same time, but I wouldn't feel rushed- and there's something about a calm morning that makes me feel more rested.
  • x200 on that desire to sleep!
OWS but no testing for me. Water looked choppy but I felt like I was just flying along once I got warmed up.
Then I got to the end of the lake and turned around. OHHHHH.... there's all that chop! Felt like it took forever to swim back.
Did 5x500 counting strokes after warm up. Counting strokes is very meditative and I felt wonderful when I was done. Some core work.

Got my TT bike back home yesterday. Put it together, but it needs to be cleaned before tomorrows ride.
  • same here....

i was tired and didn't want to get up, but I got AIP and did 2000 yards. It actually felt good once I got moving. Now I'm about to get out for a lunch time run ... 90 and not a cloud in the sky, great fo the heat acclimation but I doubt I will be hitting TP today :-)
  • I was riding by myself today and got a chuckle about Matt A..... and started laughing to myself... okay so I went swimming in lake and then took bike out..and very slow and tired heavy legs but I had the time so stayed on the bike... still wanting to get used to new saddle, now about 300 miles on it. My tri shorts felt very tight and I swore they had shrunk, I could hardly move and they didn't seem to be comfy on new saddle so I was moving about and just decided okay to just JRA... (just ride around) but when I got to a big hill, decided to climb it.. and that got my power/HR up and sweat dripping on me completely soaked as it was quite warm down here... down the hill...
AND ONE HOUR AND TEN MINUTES INTO THE RIDE I FINALLY GET WARMED UP AND PICKED UP MY PACE!!! y'all remember him saying he just needs about 15' for a WU? before a TT race?? and so I laughed and thought I gotta tell him/y'all how long it really takes me to warm up!! now about 90ish, maybe hotter actually with high humidity, sweat in rivulets on my shins picked up road gravel, sweat running down into my lips and it tasted salty, but the shorts seemed to get comfortable and the helmet wasn't bothering me and yes I thought, finally feeling good on the bike! today. nobody to actually chase out there except for one lone dude who from afar I could tell was just a regular dude... his legs were splayed and uneven cadence and sorta wobbly... good thing I have a PM to keep me honest!! went up another hill, why not I ask myself? KY singlet on, (this is the week for wearing it all!) and I dripped sweat in the heat but thought good at least I know I am not dehydrated!!

got back to my car and it got cloudy! wow. so yes you betcha? I ran 2 miles in high humidity I might add. but I am friends with the people in the RV who man the park, and the parking lot and they had left me fresh tomatoes (Gina/Linda) and before I ran I grabbed the reddest one and ate it with juice running down my chin!

a great workout! and come to find out hubby wants to ride tomorrow so from somewhere cuz I thought I was taking a rest day!! I am gonna ride 50 with friends!! so getting ready now. I ran 26 this week and walked 4 and I guess rode??? 30 today, 13 yesterday, 26 the day before.... solo so I could pull the plug if necessary! so tomorrow seeing friends??? riding longer on a different road = way excited!!! yes

I hope your weekend rides also turn out to be exciting!! m

  • Rock on, Jennifer!

And congratulations to everyone for getting the work in today. Yoga was a little intense today, as I became aware of all the fatigue in my body, so I tabled the swim to tomorrow evening.

Marianne - I love the thought of post-workout tomatoes!

  • Feeling some good mojo from this forum and you IMoo campers.  Had a great several days of training.

Wednesday did 50 and 100 repeats in pool, never swam faster.  Followed swim with some hill repeats on treadmill.

Thursday hit the roads at 4:30 am and did 17.25 miles on a very hilly course.   (Had to go early because Thursday is family day and this week we went deep sea fishing, between my wife and I and 3 kids we caught over a 100 fish, had a blast, arms tired from reeling so many in)

Friday morning before work swam in lake for 1:05:00 great OWS.   At lunchtime did some more hill repeats on treadmill and had a great core workout and stretch.

Just biked 82 miles solo 4:03:00   20.3 avg on some good rollers.  Hit 98.6% and 95.5 % on 2 X 20 @ FTP. Strongest I've felt on bike in a while.  Followed bike w/ 30 brick run.

Looking forward to slightly easier 3 hour ride tomorrow.

Feel like things are coming together.  Hard to believe only 5 more hard weeks before taper starts.

Heading out to LP next weekend to cheer on all the EN peeps, really looking forward to that road trip.  Also looking foward to doing some riding out there.

Keep the good vibes rolling !!!!

  • Nicely done Bob!!! I got the 4 hour ride done today as well and that last hour I could really feel the heat and humidity start to rise. It was a sufferfest at the end, but its done!

I'm looking forward to the slightly easier 3 hour ride tomorrow as well. I'm meeting fellow ENer Ralph Butler for about 2 hours of it- he's down here on vacation!

How is everyone else doing? Like Bob- I can't believe we only have a few weeks left. Kinda scary!
  • Good ride today, despite the humidity. Thank God it was cloudy. Rode 4 hrs exactly and hit all the intervals. Quick brick run after, smoothie, ice bath, then real food!! Loving my new bike setup with a h20 bottle between the aerobars. Thanks, Mancona, for your innovativeness!

Feeling pretty good folks. Can't believe first RR is in 2 weeks!

  • 4 hours for Team Boyle as well. Hot and hilly 74 miles. Solid work overall. Skipped the brick run and instead walked across the street to go lay in the lake (us northern folks are melting up here!!). image

Happy to report that I am almost back into full aerobar mode. I can definitely sit in them on the nice smooth stuff, but the bumps and shakes send me back to riding on the hoods pretty quickly. The only thing that still freaks me out is that I'm still getting my arm/hand strength back. Add sweat into the mix and there were a few oh no. can't break moments. working on it though so fingers crossed will be back to normal soon enough.

Will have to figure out what's up with my powertap this week as well. I've been getting some funky offset stuff lately and today was no different. Was dying to try and crack 180 watts after I zero'ed it out. PT's aren't like ergomo's with the heat/humidity are they??
  • Got 4:20 and 75 miles. Melting in that last hour and could NOT get any power going. But I did add climbing to make the ride last longer. Did the BRick.

Leigh- I haven't noticed any PT problems with heat and humidity. I'd like to blame my lack of power today on PT failure, but sadly, I know it was all me.

I wanted to get in the lake today just too cool off, but after getting home and cleaning myself up, I spent the ENTIRE rest of the afternoon (5 hours) doing chores and shopping foe necessities. I brought my towel along, hoping I'd get done early. But by the time I was done, all I wanted was a nap. Too late in the day to nap, so more stuff getting done although I am close to crashing now. Just trying to see the TdF stage finish.

Like everyone- looking forward to tomorrows ride. Taking the road bike while TT bike is in the shop.
  • not sure where my post went!

rode 50 miles in 2:42:11 today, no pitstops, flat and chip and seal roads...

so my saddle and the roads made me

but the effort was but not quite .

since tues, I ran 26, swam 5000, and biked 120.

  •  Marianne, you really need to find a better saddle!!

OK- remember how we were all looking forward to the easier ride today?  Uh, what happened to my legs and where was the easy part? After riding 1 hour into the wind,  I met Ralph Butler and the local roadies for the normal Sunday ride (wanted to show Ralph some of the nicer riding routes around here).  Those roadies were fresh and tore my legs off!  After 30 min of FTP riding I fell off the back and said goodbye!!!

Me and Ralph at the start

And I finally got a pic of the Moo Jo flag that flies over Jockey's Ridge for you all.  This is one mile from home and it always reminds me to keep pushing just when I want to let off the gas.
