Matt and I chatted briefly last weekend about a Sat night dinner for all the sherpas/families. Of course I have lots of ideas. Probably too many... I'll throw out some options here, and let y'all debate/decide.
The team dinner is on Thurs night at Gray's Tied House in Verona, which is right on the bike course at the start of the loop. Gray's might also be a great place to spectate during the bike ride, as it has tables/chairs on a covered balcony overlooking the bike course. So we could do the Saturday dinner there so that family is familiar with it.
Or could do somewhere downtown for pizza. Ian's pizza on State Street is cool because you can get pizza by the slice and they have lots of different varieties, along with salads. Super informal, and outdoor seating.
Classic Wisconsin food can be found at The Old Fashioned, right on the capitol square.
A little further away from downtown (and maybe less crowded) are several restaurants at Hilldale Mall: Pasqual's (southwestern), Great Dane Hilldale, Flattop Grill (cook-your-own stir fry). Hilldale might be a great place, because people could go to whatever restaurant they want (after shopping at such cool stores like Fair Indigo, Title 9, North Face, etc) and then could all meet at the Sundance 608 lounge or rooftop afterwards. But any of those restaurants could accomodate the whole group as well.
If people prefer something really informal, could do one of the chain restaurants like Cosi, Chin's, Chipotle, Qdoba, Potbelly, etc. All of those have locations downtown as well as on the west side of town.
I would prefer to skip Gray's or Great Dane as we always seem to make it to those two.
If folks want to stay downtown, I would vote the Old Fashioned.
Otherwise, it would be cool to go to a different area so the southwest or stir fry at sound great. Plus there will be lots of non-EN racers and families trying to get dinner downtown that night.
Yep. A real live Title 9 store. It's a small store (compared to the one in Seattle, where I "single-handedly jumpstarted the economy" after CdA this year!), but just as dangerous. And you really should check out Fair Indigo. Almost makes me feel ok about being a consumer.
The chicas all know this, but wanted to let the rest of the team know that I'm heading out to cheer and support you all too!!! I'm so flipping excited to get to meet so many of you and witness the spectacle of the pink speedos!!
This all reminds me- I need to see if Joe wants to volunteer again, and if so, where. I loved seeing him at that one water stop (I think it was mile 4/8/16/20 ir something like that). I got to see him 4 times and I knew right where to find him. I know there is a big party going on at mile 18ish, but it would be nice to have some support at other points along the course too.
Anyone else got friends/family coming and volunteering?
have you guys loooked into a place called the weary traveler for saturday night- they've got great food, and there's a spot across the street with great island drinks as well. I'd love to come, but i have a race the following morning..... damn ;-)
As stated before, I'm coming to support the team, and to volunteer as well. Planning to stay w/Tracy. Just wondering who is coming from the Chicagoland area/NW IN, whom I might ride with and share gas expenses? Or, anyone coming from SO IN or south, who will come up through this area on way to WI. Will drive if need be, but not real comfortable with Chicagoland traffic, esp. heading into WI. Planned on going up on Fri. return on Monday, after signing up for IMMOO for 2011! Let me know if anyone out there would be interested in driving and having help w/expenses! Thx!

OOhhhh, yes Weary Traveler is a great, yummy place to eat! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good place for dinner. Not necessarily good for large groups, though, as it is pretty tightly-packed in there. And it's always really loud, so hard to have a conversation among a group of people.
Jolly Bob's is the place across the street with the fun drinks. It's a jamaican restaurant.

Great Dane Downtown is always a good option.

I'm up for dinner! I won't have a car, so if I can hitch a tide with someone, I'll go where ever- or i can get a cab
There is a Title 9 store in Madison? Gasp
My thoughts E*ACTLY!!!
I know! I could single handedly jump start the economy at a real T-9 store.
