  • I'm in, I'll be ready for some warm weather when its time for the race.

FYI the IMCOZ Group is here.

  • AFter a long year off, i'm in and ready to start.. Can't wait, really, i can't..
  • Dudes...I trained all of 1.5 hours last week (recovering from IMCDA) but will probably hit 10 this week. The pain of IM is receding (I guess this is like childbirth) and I'm already starting to think about Arizona!
  • A bit early, I know, but thinking about IMAZ 2011. Can not find any info on the date? Anyone of the WSM out there have an idea? Thanks!
  • I'm in as race Sherpa.
  • @ David - The first three Nov IM AZ have been the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Probably will remain that way to avoid conflicts with ASU football games.

  • Thanks Al, that is what I was thinking, but just could not find any confirmation anywhere.  OT: PS, also thinking about CDA next year.  Since I understand you are the Oracle, suggestion on where my wife and I should stay?  Thanks again.  Dave

  • @ David - If you want to spend $$$, be right at the venue, and not have any in-room cooking options, then the host hotel - the CDA Resort - is the place for you. I've never been there, so can't comment other than to note it's plush.

I have stayed in at least 3 different locales. There are a few B&B's in the downtown area. The Roosevelt Inn is within walking distance (1/2 mile of the lake), and has a nice wooded yard and hot tub.

There are a bunch of standard quality chain motels up the hill by the freeway - about 2-3 miles away, like Ameritel, Days Inn, La Quinta, etc. There is a kid friendly water park right there, and fast food and chain eateries abound, as well as my Sat pre-race evening meal spot, Jamba Juice.

Where I've landed the last three years and keep coming back to is the La Quinta on Sherman Ave, about a 3 minute drive from the downtown race venue. It's advantage is it is right on the course for both the run and bike, so family can easily view me and still have a comfortable home base.

Donna Rice stayed in a new condo in the Riverstone area which is a planned community built around a shopping center/movie theatre about two mile from the race, she may have some comments about that. If you're going with a group or a bunch of people, there are a number of condos and even homes available for rent during race week in the downtown area. The race web site may have links to those.

  •  T minus 15 weeks......am excited for the journey to IMAZ....woo hoo!

  • I am in.........Anyone out there do IMFL and IMUSA that could lend some comparisons to the courses? Cheers and best wishes with the training. Greg

IM LP/USA compared to AZ - very different races. IM FL to AZ - same ballpark, but significant differences. Bike is three loops, not one (a good thing, IMO, except it adds to risk of drafting). FL is FLAT, AZ has a 4 mile long gentle hill at the loop's turnaround - adds a little interest and helps to break up the monotony of six hours bent over in aerobars. Run is also three loops, with a number of small "hills" created by bridge crossings over the "lake". These bridges actually make it possible for spectators to follow you closely on the run. If they're willing to do a little planning and a small amount of walking, they can see you 8-12 times during the run. There's a surprising amount of shade on the run, from a little park we run through, from a number of large buildings to the south, and from the fact that the sun sets about 5:15 that time of year. Fewer townies as spectators in AZ than FL, and while the temps are about the same, there is no humidity in AZ.

  • I'm a new member from DC. I'm in and excited for IMAZ.
  • @ Jason - Welcome and you are in for a blast
  •  I count 13 here, and only 8 in the group so far. If you haven't joined the group go to this page and link in there as well.

  • thanks for the heads-up Al!
  • another interesting update from Paul Huddle, IMAZ race director about Tempe Town Lake.

  • A 30-mile shift in location doesn't really make me happy after investing in a condo downtown so I can be walking distance to everything. I could care less about the hills...no big deal either way. I wonder if they'd split transitions and keep T2 in town or try to move the entire production out to the other location? Hopefully none of this matters and they get some water in the damn lake.
  • Last I heard was that if they have to go with the fall back plan it will be point to point. T1 out at the lake, T2 in town to follow the regular run course.
  • amen Joel, amen!!
