As for the swim: fishies sign up for non-wetsuit swims so don't be too bummed out about your placement. Also, if you are good at flip turns and pushing off at the wall, your pool swim test will be faster than OWS for sure (mine always are---I love the wall!)

What are Motivator caps? Had no idea motivation came in capsule form...coulda really used some during OS. Ha!

Excellent bike execution! Doode, you are gonna rock this course.

Yes, fishies sign up for non-wetsuit swims, but my time!?  As far as flip turns, never done 'em, but even without them you're probably right that the push off the wall helps with the overall time.

Matt Sullivan turned me on to Motivator caps.

Thanks for the props.  I feel ready.  You are too!!!

  •  Nemo, I'll agree with you on that. I had a great day, probably my best ever.... my only concerns are 1) I might've gone a bit too hard, cos i was struggling to hit the run numbers (as low as they were) - just imagine what it's gonna be like for the 26th ;-)

and 2) I brought my A-game to RR, and I will bring it to race day, but i doubt the weather (was perfect on the course), and all other conditions will be s cooperative

I'l just have to keep the faith - it will all be GOOOOOOD

  • Hasan - You are ready! And, as for the powermeter --- I kinda (really, really, really) hated my powermeter for about two months. If you have it, I'd consider taking it only if you reach a point of zen where the bouncy numbers are cool to you and to use a back-up. You've got this heart rate racing nailed.

    Gorilla tape: genius

Sheryl mentioned ponytail holders earlier, yes? I keep two twisted around the aerobars. Usually, this is to replace to polytail holder I lost on the swim, but I've made a "seatbelt" for my powertap computer one day, when it wouldn't stay in its cradle, tied down loose bar tape, tied down a loose wired cycling computer cable, and lashed up a bottle cage after I lost a screw with the thing.

And what is up with all the powertap failures? I'm tempted to set up the 310xt as a back-up monitor for race day now.

If you have a 310 or 305 that you are going to be running with anyway, why not wear it on the bike?  I have used both my 310 and edge 500 for every race this year.  Knock on Wood...both have worked perfectly, but as long as I have both I figure it never hurts to have a spare just in case something goes wrong.  I would not go buy a second device just for this reason though.

I wasnt going to bring this up b/c, for one, sometimes I feel for the guys around here!   But I will anyway.  You all have no idea how much I stress about my ponytail. It needs to move postions to be in the right place at the right sport--up higher in the swim cap to make the goggles feel right. Down low at the nape of the neck for the bike helmet. Then up higher again to work right with the cap or visor. OMG, is stresses me out, b/c who needs to fuss with that? I usually just cram on the helmet and try to forget that the hair "isn't right." and might not feel as comfy as usual. It's so bad that I'm going for a haircut right now so my hair will, hopefully, be the "right-least-annoying" length come race day. You have no idea about me and pony tail stress....And, oh, I'd appreciate a comb at the end after all that!

  • THANKS NEMO!!  You are always such an encouragement to me   I am estimating my swim time to be around 1:20-1:30ish range.  My RR #1 was 1:23.  Yep and it sounds like we will be on the course together and probably the run as well   Shooting for 10:30 min miles.  Glad to know you will be out there and close by!

You all have no idea how much I stress about my ponytail.

There is an easy solution for that, you know...

  • Michele- you crack me up!!! Linda- I know folks (Kris for example) who do the braid thing to resolve that issue- but my hair is too thin to stay in the braid. So like you, I also fret and fuss with the different pony tail positions!!

Yeah Kathy! That sounds just absolutely perfect! So glad to know another Chica will be so close to me all day!! Woohoo!
  • Mancona- Do you run the 310 for the swim bike and run (and have you done it for the full IM?) I'm trying to figure out if that thing is gonna have enough battery power to last all day. I'm starting to think I might not bother with it on the swim 'cause I want to be sure I have it still working on the run.

Haven't used it for a full yet, but I have for a few HIM and had more then 70% batery left at the end.  I would test it out by using it for a few days without charging it and see how many hours you get out of it.  It wont be exactly perfect but will give you a good idea.
