Let's Obsess About the Weather
It's on my mind, so I'm sure it's on yours!
So far it's looking like sunny in mid-70s. All those nasty storm clouds seem to be disappearing from the extended forecasts I've been looking at.
I will share this...my FIL was a meteorologist. He always told me that weather forecasting is solid about getting the temps right. (I'll take mid-70s!) OTOH, precip, a lot of the time, comes in later than originally forecast.
So far looking good for Madtown on the 12th. My DH follows these wacky in-depth weather sites where I literally can't figure out what they're saying. (The whole family is like weather crazy) I'll have him follow the discussion soon and report back if anything looks awry.

Ok yes let's obess just a bit....if it is rainy and cold....I will cry and freeze all day
oh please nooooo please please pray for nice weather...even hot and humid is A ok with me...just not cold!!!! oh and did I say no rain
LP here's to hoping your long term weather man predictions are right on!
You gotta let this stuff go. You won't know until race morning. That's how it's traditionally been there. The night before the race in '08, they were predicting rain in the morning. It was stinking beautiful. Mid-60's with the lake like glass. Never rained all day.
Yet another reason I think Keith is the BOMB. I am a total weather goober.
Let's see, how many times today have I checked NOAA, Accuweather, and TWC???
You two have to talk. You'll be like two peas in a pod.
isn't weather one of those things that is outside of our box??? No question I have an opinion about the weather I want but I am trying not to think about it since I can't control it. I'm grateful to have trained in cold, wet, hot, and humid this year - even if I am not prepared for the specific weather we'll have on the 12th, at least I'll have experience with it. I am sure the same goes for most folks.
Did someone say something about a tornado?
For those trying to avoid last minute cramming (i.e., unauthorized workouts) and worries about the future weather, here's a way to kill about 20-30 minutes: a very LOOOOONG race report from IM Wisconsin 2005, the one and only time I've been to Madison. Let's see, about this time back then, the weather projection was mid 70's and pleasant; of course, that's not what happened.
This is from a pre-blog online journal I've been keeping since 1997:

just sayin'.

OH SNAP!
I agree Al, Great read, couldn't stop once I got started. Very helpful, thank you for posting !!
Relax!!!! The title was suppsed to be a little joke. (Thud!) The topic always comes up about this time. Dont' worry, it's out of the box, what will be will be.
I was at IM-MOO 2005, proud mother of a 3 week old baby. My husband was racing and I hardly noticed the weather, only that my newborn woke up at the proper time to eat in order to get to the start to watch his papa execute smartly on a hot day and earn a Kona slot. Dragged that poor baby all over that day - baby bjorn, wagon, stroller, you name it, oh and his two older siblings. We were all drenched by the end of the day but it fueled my IM fire....
@ Heather - Ironmate of the year for you! I deliver babies for a living, and watching moms for 40 years, there's no way I would trade training for and doing an IM for being in labor and then for another nine months the caretaker of a helpless human. Way too hard, way too much work.
Al, Great story. I was one of the many humbled that day in 05. I finished, but that was about it. Sure am hoping for something a little more nild this year. Again, great story and good luck in Kona this year.
Todd
@Al - thanks! mixed bag on trading pregnancy and labor for IM training/racing. At least with the latter you're in really good shape at the end of it all!! Plus with this fancy new thing you doctors have called an epidural, makes labor & delivery a walk in the park compared to trying to say, PR a marathon..I'm just saying.
Oh and go get 'em in Kona!!!
hahahaha....just thought of something!!!! "Suck it up Sally!!!!"
I will suck it up...but I still might cry
tornadoes or not in the midwest, my thoughts tonight are with the coast peeps who have to suffer this on an annual basis... that must be harsh.... but then again, we have out winters....
I don't know about the rest of you, but I had a lump in my throat after reading that race report. SO INSPIRING, yet soo humbling at the same time. I'm proud to even say I'm associated with the likes of you and the other team members

Chica brunch - Um, Lazy Janes? I think we all would benefit from recovery scones.
60% chance of sun....
High in the low 70s. Maybe showers. Looking pretty good.
I'm hoping I can wear my EN bike jersey rather than the singlet on the bike. I would be SO happy with those extra pockets.
