It's funny. we all share those stories, and we each have our own story.....
I honestly don't know who Trent is, and i've been trying to look him up, but I'm guessig he's a cancer survivor - those are the true warriors, in my humble opinion, who have battled the odds (can somebody share with me his story?). What's great is we all have one in our lives, and I WILL be doing this for a friend of mine; allow me to share with you her story. 3 years ago, she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer - missed by a physician (could've been detected 12 monthes earlier on screening examination). She saw 3 physicians, who all basically told her there's nothing to be done at that moment, and that she would have a life-span of a couple of months, so might as well enjoy it with the least amount of pain to her and her family possible (ie no chemo or surgery). She decided to beat ALL ODDS, she literally had half her abdomen removed, with the biggest shark bite scar, and a 2 month course in the hospital.
3 years later(disease free praise the lord), she still manages to inspire me (and EVERY person who's lucky to have crossed her path). She's the most beautiful person on the planet (spirit-wise), who always puts a smile on everybody around her. Unfortunately, she will not be joining me in madison, but I will have her on my mind the entire race, just like i had her for every second of my RR. She is my source of inspiration in almost everything i do at this point.... below is a pic of her and her 2 daughters - I've self-appointed myself Godfather of one of them the other one is of Reem when she was in the middle of her fight against cancer. I hope you peeps don't find it disturbing, but it one of my favorite pics....

Ditto. Perhaps we need a new silly bandz in his honor or something to hang on the visor. Something. For sure I will get my Livestrong band out again, hate having to keep pulling that thing out for people; as our family friend Kristin says "Suck it Cancer!" look for her ACS shirt with that posted on the back on Sunday and know that she is one wicked bad-ass survivor. Stay strong peeps!
Love this idea Heather. We need to come up with some way to "carry" Trent with us.
For those that haven't seen it, Trent announced some pretty heavy news here:
I have a guardian angle pin a friend gave me that is always on my race visor. I'm thinking something simple like a ribbon maybe to attach with a safety pin? I don't know how hard it was for Linda to find so many of the exact same silly band. But that would work too- maybe something in the"bob the builder" theme. A power drill would be perfect for "Drillbit" (if any of you don't know the story- in summary Trent is a builder and one day managed to put a drill bit through his thigh but still pulled out a big FTP on his next test- that's how he got the nickname).

Just a thought. There are some fairly small drillbits. Could possibly attach one on the visor.
I love the drill bit idea. I am wearing my Livestrong jersey on the run because my daughter gave it to me for my birthday and told me she was proud of me for being a survivor. No way will I pass up that opportunity to honor her gift. I love the drill bit.
Joe said we should be able to poke a little hole in the visor/hat to have the drillbit go through. He thinks we could get a bunch of small ones at Home Depot for around $1 a piece. We could pick up a bunch and hand them out at the team dinner.

Gina- let me know how your experiment goes.
Helps to have a someone with surgical skills in the house. Susanna just sewed one to my Chica visor. It is above the logo.

AWESOME!!! OK, can we get the many skilled docs in the haus to do the same for the rest of us? What size drillbit did you use? I can probably get Joe to pick up a bunch to bring with us to the Team Dinner to pass out to everyone.

Not sure of e*act si*e, but it about 1.5 inches long. It really is no harder than sewing on a button, I was just putting Su to work and surgical suture is all we had
Gina- if you get a chance, can you either post a picture of what visor looks like with drill bit on it. or maybe take a pic and text me? i was in hardware store looking and scratching my head, Hmmmmmmm
Now, Tools & I are not on good terms, need to change that, but have lots to learn in mean time
I used regular pink thread to sew a drill bit to my visor. It's above the logo. 3 criss-cross stitches---took 5 minutes to do.
For those of us flying to WI, just remember to put the drill bit in checked luggage. If you try to bring it on a plane in a carry-on, it will likely be confiscated as it's sharp and pointy.

I have been reading too many sad stories that I'm all out of tears and yet, I read this note Sheryl and wow, the tear ducts still work. Soooo special. See you soon!
Man, Trent sounds like one helluva a fighter.... Any interest in sending out all the drillbits after IMooo to his home address? just another one of my crazy thoughts.....

Should be fairly easy. Small bit attached by the Chica. I am gonna try it.

I can pick up a few sutures tomorrow
I also need to go back to ACE in a little bit ( tryng to fix my toilet that won't flush
), I'll see what I can find.

I'll pack the sewing kit, too. I love this idea!

Have to insert link here, because picture option in toolbar is gone.
Basically, I sewed a small drill bit to the visor with black thread. Piece o' cake!!
