IMFL - 9 weeks out... it's test week
Hi all!
Hope you had good weekends and your big days went well. I had a later night than I expected last night so I'll ride tonight, likely on the drainer (boo)... I'm an HR athlete, so I'm not entirely sure how that translates for testing, but I'll give it a go and see what happens. Good luck, hope you're seeing improvement, I'm sure you will!

Hi all, how did your bike tests go? I actually had a test - first time since OS that I've tested as an HR athlete (the HIM schedules had alternate workouts listed on test days). As of yesterday I've dropped 8 lbs since Jan (woo hoo - although I've probably dropped a touch more, that weigh in was after a weekend of traveling and fun), I went an additional .5 miles, and my HR avg bumped up 3 ticks... which will make for harder training rides (ugh).
The swim actually looks fun, will do that tonight... and the 5k TT tomorrow... ugh!
Please check in! Good luck!!!

Congrats on the body comp and fitness improvements. I did my FTP test yesterday and went from 258 to 265 so pretty happy with that. I am trying not to think about the reward being harder workouts but the the green light to go faster on the bike at IMFL. Good luck with the rest of your training.
Congrats, Brian! Good news. Hope the 5k went well for you!
I did the 5k run test this morning... without Dan (my BF - who's a faster runner and has paced me for my other TTs). The temps were great, a tad windy but not at all bad. I'm 5lbs lighter than my test in May (and 10 lbs lighter than my first OS bike test) so I was hoping that would translate into a faster time... but I was 8 seconds slower than May.
Did the 5k in 24:43 (mile 1: 7:48, 2: 8:08, 3: 8:03). This one seemed mentally tougher than I remember... probably bc I was alone and not chasing Dan. Bummer I was slower, but only marginally so, and my pace zones didn't change... I suspect bc of the horrible heat this summer, never really getting to train at pace might have been a factor. Oh well, I'm not at all upset... bc hopefully with weather finally breaking (knock on wood) I can really train in these zones. I'm now officially in my "normal" weight zone after a long time trying to get back here... and 4 lbs from race weight!
If all goes well, I'll swim tonight (didn't swim last night) and then I'm gonna get up super duper early tomorrow to do saturday's 3 hour ride on the drainer (ugh) before hopping on a plane for Madison, WI! Then I'll be essentially on schedule for the week - doing Sunday's 3 hour ride with the team on the course Saturday. Hopefully I can make the group swim that morning, too (it conflicts with a volunteers' meeting)... won't be the set swim test, but what the heck, open water is a good thing... maybe I can do 1 full loop if the buoys are out... if not, well, I'll be down a swim for the week... I'll survive (so far, I've always been down a swim a week).
hope everyone else is doing well this week!
I raced the Patriots Half yesterday in Williamsburg, Va. Great race! Hey this power stuff really works. I stuck to the plan until the run and got caught up on the excitement so instead of the first 3 miles being 30 sec slower, I was about a min faster than my MP. I suffered at the end with 11-12 min miles from mile 8-13. I still finished for the first time under 6 hrs!
I am recovering today and will be with you guys again tomorrow for the last 8 wks before the big race.
Congrat Brian on inc those numbers. I also increased my FTP from 219 to 229. My #'s for the bike portion are; TSS 179, IF .79, VI 1.03, NP 186, avg speed 20 mph! I found myself mostly looking at my power zone - I have a Garmin 500. My back was getting a bit sore for the last 5 miles but overall I felt strong on the bike and was flying high for the first 3 miles of the run.
I will be better at going a lot slower for the first 6 miles on our race day.
Have a good week.
