IMAZ - 10 Weeks to Go and Counting Down!

Woo-hoo!  Almost down to single digits.   I tried to get up at 5am this morning for masters swim but the bed had a death grip on me and struggle was futile.  I gave up and took the rest.  But all was not lost - this evening I managed a quick 2000 yards in the pool followed by a 3 mile run.  Monday is always my easiest day anyway.   I'll be at the track tomorrow for a good 7 miles and have open water practice Wed evening.

Here's the Sep 10 report on dam reconstruction...still on track:  Work is now happening on all three rubber bladders and construction crews are also prepping the dam for the pedestrian bridge. On Monday, crews will roll out Bladder No. 1 and begin installing it with anchor plates and bolts. Foundations have been inspected for safety and all work is being done safely. PCL has maintained a perfect safety record on this project for its employees and for the equipment being installed.

  • Wakey, wakey people! How are you all doing this week. I was very happy to get in 15 miles today. The temperature went up to 92 but we've had a shift in prevailing winds that has lowered our humidity the past couple of days. I was actually breathing air instead of water! Back to the pool in the morning.

    Let's hear your updates.
  • 15.5 miles today. Getting fired up.
  • I did the 40 min run for my beginner plan yesterday and felt like I had not even exercised......so feeling great about that! Also feeling strong after long rides and still riding the high from doing well last Sunday local tri., EN has helped me improve on the bike like crazy.

Also super happy that feel strong AND healthy, no pesky IT band issues (knocking on serious wood right now!).

Going to try my new sleeved wetsuit this weekend, and next week we are single digits, yeah!

    Rock on team IMAZ!

  • It was a good week. Got up yesterday morning and did my 2 hour run on the schuylkill river trail in the dark, just me and the critters. Then off to work. This morning it was a 5:40 am flight back home. Thinking about skipping the 40 minute run tonight. I am too old to be working till midnight every night and then waking up at 3:30 to go run. Today may be a rest day before the Saturday SBR adventure.

    Happy training.
  • Its been a pretty good week, I was able to get all of my workout done. I felt sluggish on my long run on Thursday, but I still got it in. Tomorrow (Saturday) is going to be a big day. I have to wait and swim after I ride and run. The outside water temp is hovering in the mid-50s, so I think I will wait for the pool to open and swim inside. I know that it's not ideal but it'll get done. I am leaving early so, hopefully, I'll be able to be finished in time for lunch with the kiddos and wife. happy training everyone!!
  • Tough workout today! Due to competing priorities, I wasn't going to be able to get the four hours on the bike, so last night I did 1 hour on the trainer with Spinervals (Suffer-O-Rama) as the main set, followed by a 3 mile brick run. We have nice weather today, but my self-proclaimed athletic supporter (my wife) had an appt so I started with 2 hours on the trainer using Spinervals (Mental Toughness) as the core set. Then off to the pool to swim (2900 yards) before lunch and 7 miles (58 mins) after lunch. Now it's down time -- until Sunday morning. We are heading back to Clermont tonight for tomorrow's Assault on Sugarloaf (112 miles). The course is 3 loops, but only the first goes directly up Sugarloaf. Loops 2 and 3 will still be hilly. I'll take loop one easy, then ride 2 and 3 at IM pace and see how many folks I can pull back.
  • really fun saturday, yesterday, probably the most fun I have had on my bike in a long time. SUPER windy to the halfway point, I probably averaged 12mph. Made the flip at the Utah/Wyoming state lines and averaged 29mph for the next hour. Smoked it so fast on the way home, I had to take alternate routes to get the enitre ride time in. My nutrition was good on the bike, except I should have eated a power bar. I really paid for not eating on the run. I did have a gel with me on the run and it saved me. Once the gel kicked in, I was able to pick up the pace and finish stronger than what I started with. Pretty good day, still lots of work to day. Sundays workout are off because of a family emergency, but I'll pick it back up Monday for the start of another fun week.
  • I'm excited for your guys! I think I'll be volunteering in the ladies' change tent.

  • Yesterday was a bummer of a day. Got up and swam for one hour before heading out for the ride. Feeling good and ready to go. Made it about 1.5 hours into the 4 hour ride and flatted. No big deal, pulled into a parking lot. Changed the tube, go to air up the tire and the adapter for my CO2 is not in my bike bag. I am an hour drive away from the house and stuck. Call home and Penny comes out to bring me the pump. While I am waiting, the principal at the school I stopped at has one of the kids bring me out a bottle of water. I really appreciate this.

Penny shows up and I air the tire up, get a CO2 adapter and start to finish my ride after an hour and something rest. On the way back in, I end up cutting the ride short due to the line of thunderstorms coming up behind me. At 3 hours and 15 minutes I get to the car and the skies open up. I figure it’s raining, but I can still run, right? That’s when the light show starts, and the day is over.

Then when I got home, I downloaded the power meter and look at the ride. 68% of FTP. Crap. My pacing was off and I ended up going too easy. Just perfect. Well, it’s something to learn from as I get ready for RR #1.

PS. To finish out the weekend, a friend’s dog passed away this morning and I became the doggy undertaker while we wait to take him into the vet’s office so they can determine what happened. image
  • Hey all!  I'm new to the team, but wanted to jump in and say Hi.  I'm racing AZ this year and look forward to the moral support on the course!  Also - Thanks for posting the lake / dam updates, I'm in Dallas so not much news of it around here.
