Fundraising Updates
This forum has gotten a little quiet lately, and yet I know lots of us are out there doing some fundraising for our Ironman (and other) races. How is everyone doing??
My personal campaign to friends/family is about to run dry. So I recently modified and sent off one of those "Public Release" announcements from the Janus Website to my local area newspapers in hopes of getting a little more local press. I just got off the phone with a guy from one of the papers and answered a bunch of interview type questions. He wants me to send him a pic to use in the article. So it looks like it will really happen. I figure more PR will help bring out donations from the locals. Oh- and I also was able to get a local pet store to put a donation jar in their store for spare change. It's brought in about $25 over the last 2 weeks- not huge, but every little penny counts!!!
What is everyone else up to?

I did have a problem with my Janus page and have been using the page that I set up directly wth the charity. It may not help out Janus, but I still raised the money.
Does Janus take a portion? Do they match? I never really got a sense of what they do.
Janus doesn't take any cut of the donations. If the donation was by Credit Card, the CC company of course takes their processing fee, but otherwise the full donations are forwarded to your charity.
Janus doesn't "match" per se. They etablish the means to facilitation this program and then they set up the challenge. At each IM event Janus identifies the individual raising the most $$ for their charity and then give an extra $$ (don't remember how much) to that charity. The idea is to encourage folks to raise as much as possible with the reward being your charity could get more $$ from Janus if you are the winner.
I don't remember how much the winner at IMWI had- it was huge and I wasn't anywhere close. But I'm still really glad I did this. Not only did I get to know my local charity much better ( and have since continued to be very involved with them which has been rewarding) but I also got that premo spot in transition
Great program!
P.S. Top fund raiser at Hawaii raised $125,000!
I recently joined the Plus3 Network http://www.plus3network.com/.
They join corporate sponsors with causes they support based on your training. So for every mile I ride or run, Sidi (the shoe guys) make a donation for me to the Surfrider Foundation. In the last month or so I've raised $33. It's not a ton, but it's a nice reward for just doing my normal training.
They have a number of corporate/charity pairs to chose from, and you can get points for just about any activity. If you self report your activities you get a certain amount of points, but if you upload them, like from a Garmin, you get double points.
