@Greg- thankfully I wasn't in the airport for long! @Al- you've got that right! I kept reminding myself to focus on the task at hand and would not let myself think about the "finish line" too soon!
Due to snowy roads I ended up on the treadmill today. I've never made more than 30 mins on a treadmill and today was no exception. No music, no TV, just staring at that bloody clock. So I cut the workout in half and just did 30 mins. If it weren't for the fact that I'm doing Tuesday's brick tomorrow to accomodate a business trip I'd have hopped on the bike to round out the hour.
At least my quad feels okay after yesterday's issues.
Just completed my Beginner OS workout (Run MS: 3 x 800 (3'), 1 x 1600 all @ TP/Z4/Hard. Remainder of run is how you feel, but try to accumulate more HMP/Z3/Mod-Hard time to 60 min.). Here is my HR chart:
I must have misread the workout when programming my Garmin this morning as I only did 2x800 at Z4, 1x1600 at Z4, and the rest of 60 min at Z3. The Z4 intervals felt pretty good but the ~35 minutes at Z3 seemed like an hour. Glad to have this one behind me.
Went to the gym yesterday and I had a nice surprise waiting for me (new treadmills). Finally a whole bank of them without any "broken" signs. Got through the run but struggled as my legs where fatigued from the Saturday ride and the 40th birthday party the night before. I would have thought that all the alcohol would have made me a top-fuel machine, but no, it does not! Anyhow, I got through the intervals with the exception of a 45sec break during the last one (2x1/2 and 2x1). Paces where 7:36 and I got an additional 10min at 7:48 before I had to stop.
I did all my runs on the mill last week - including ts brick. It's been really cold and windy here. Not to mention, being on the cleanse I want to be sure that if I run out of energy or something I can easily stop (and not freeze to death 3 miles from home). I don't know if it's the mill and the constant pacing or the cleanse, but my runs have been a lot harder than my rides. But I've done the set workouts (except Sat brick, I nixed it bc I had an appt to get to). Wed was 1x1/2, 2x1 - and I did those at an 8:40 pace. Sun was 2x1/2, 2x1 and I had trouble in the second full mile. I had to walk for about 30" in the middle and will myself to keep going. Legs are definitely tight today...

Hey Allen!
Enjoying your graphs, thanks for posting! FWIW the Z3 felt really hard to me on the intermediate plan as well... almost harder than the Z4, really. I'm starting to feel that "the intensity of the Outseason will sneak up on you" kind of fatigue! All good, hard work though!
I see you're programming your Garmin for the workouts... do you find that pretty straightforward? Would you recommend investing the time to learn how to do it?
Just can not face the TM today. I am heading out on snowshoes in the gorgeous sunshine. Hope to have pics to post later!
Michele! Those of us in the perma-damp Pacific Northwest would REALLY appreciate your snow pics! Well, at least this one would for sure. Will stay tuned for pics - sounds SUPER fun!
@Jenn - I would definitely recommend programming the garmin! It will beep at you when your interval should start, it will been at you if you're too fast or slow, it will beep at you when your interval ends... you don't have to keep checking your wrist! The only time I didn't use my garmin pre-programmed was for track work, when I actually went to a track. Then I just hit the lap button to start/stop the interval - and then I checked my times after I downloaded the data. It really makes training so much easier! I'll actually miss using it on my bike (was an HR person last year), having to write down the workout and tape it to my frame or bento box so I remember the timing will be a bummer!
Is it okay to blow off your big run of the week to spend 2.5 hours ice skating for a daughter's birthday party? My legs definitely feel like they had a workout! I have to say it was WAY better than being on the treadmill. It was an outdoor rink and the weather was fantastic... if you ignore the 16F high for the day.
@Tom, daughter's birthday party comes always first. Don't even worry about it. Hope you both had a great time. Those things are the ones I carry from my childhood. They are the dearest to me. All the places I went with my mom and dad, all the competitions we drove to.......Silly to even blink about that.

May go do some drill swimming this afternoon.

Grateful for the break today!

@ Becky - Thank you! The Garmin is programmed for my first shot at it tomorrow. It was pretty easy, looking forward to seeing how it works!
