JAN OS Week 5, Maintenance and Recovery Thread
Can you all believe we are in week 5 already? Just a few more to go before we test again
So what is everyone doing to take care of their body this week?
I've been starting every day with a series of Sun Salutations. On "work" days I get in just 4 or so, but on these Recovery days I extend that practice a little more. Later today I need to get on the floor and roll out this calf since it's acting up again.
Leigh- I'm putting in a little special request for one of those "mobilization" Blog posts involving the Gastroc & Posterior Tib

I was completely and utterly shelled yesterday (zero energy) so took the day off and spent much of it on the couch. Lower legs still buzzing last night.
Today I am gonna spend time making whoopie (a pain and pleasure thing) with my Trigger Point stuff and plan my taper for this week for the half marry Sunday. Thinking bike Tuesday and run Wednesday and then take Thursday and Friday off.
Saturday is an EN-meet-up in SoCal with an easy spin on the bikes on a river trail. Looks like 6 to 8 of us will be meeting up in Huntington Beach and then some will have lunch. Should be fun.
Starting on Friday's (this week), it's back to the pool (endless style) for technique work, no volume. I find swimming in the endless pool forces me to concentrate on form since there are mirrors and video cameras from all angles watching me (not to mention my coach). I do 15-20 strokes, stop, watch, and correct. Thirty minutes goes a long way.
Compression sleeves at the office today. I'll admit it. But only here.
My recovery today is consisting of putting snow in a baggie that I had from lunch and sitting on it! I was with my kids this weekend when they were sled riding and should've taken it more easy so my "boys" have been sore! Didn't have the "balls" (ha ha) to ask the school nurse for an ice pack because I knew she'd ask why, so I went outside, handful of snow, and put it into my sandwich bag... perfect!!!! I better be running by Thursday at the latest... I hate sitting around.
Dan
To sum this up you made snowballs
Today I did my upper body and ab workout. It's the first time I've done it since starting the OS and I just realized how utterly weak my core really is when I'm doing anything other than biking or running. I'm sure it's all added into my leg problems. Legs are super sore today, but I rolled them out for a bit and plan to do some more work on them when I get home. If anything the extreme focus on rolling and stretching will be great when I am 100% to hopefully keep me there!
@Dan - LOVE the snowballs! I know the feeling as I've gone sledding with the kids and they really get "bounced" around
. Good luck!
I'm taking a week off to go skiing, hot springs and relaxing. When I am in training TP rollers and stretching regluarly and if anything is stiff or sore it gets extra attention.
Looking forward to jumping back in next week.
@Gordon - Sounds nice, I did that with the family 2 weeks ago. Hot Springs in the winter is awesome.
