Start of Training

 Hello Team-

This wil be my first IM and looking forward to the training and running across that finish line.  Appears that my training started 11/1/10 with the Nov OS.  Currently in the 12 week intermediate HIM and training for Kansas.  My plan for Wisc starts 6/24 after a needed transition week.

  • Hey Carl, I would take a week or, better yet, two of downtime before hitting the HIM program. Let the OS sink in a bit. You've got a long year ahead of you.

Doesn't have to be total rest, but you shoudl take it easy.

  • I'm testing this week for the Nov OS, then taking 2 weeks down time with a half-marathon in the middle before starting up the HIM training. After that, taking 1-2 weeks off before hitthing the IM training. This will also be my first IM. My SO is doing the same plan. Fun stuff!

For the past few years I've taken a week off in the spring to re-group before starting the summer training. I've never done 2 weeks and it's freaking me out a bit. I will probably still do some fairly hard workouts next week, then take a full recovery week the following week.
  • Looks like I'm on a similar track as everyone else here except I'm a week behind. I got sicke the second week of the OS so I just picked up the following week. So this week is my testing week, next week is a recovery week, and then to 10 weeks of HIM training for High Cliffs. I'm actually looking forward to the week of not having anything really planned.
  • In my plan to the coaches they came back with me jumping into the 12 week HIM right away but I am off all of week 5 and part of week 6. I am picking back up week 6 on Thursday for the run. It has been quite an adjustment meaning more work. Monday was an hour run followed by an hour swim. I didn't like the swim following the run cause I was wore out. Tues was a 45 minute run followed by an hour swim. Due to work I swam in the am and ran in the evening. Wed was a 90 minute bike. Suppose to do a 30 minute brick run but skipped it. Thursday (today) was a 90 minute run and it felt great. All of it was on the dreadmill cause of the temps here in Iowa. Friday is a 60 minute swim. Sat is a 3 hour bike-I will be on a trainer cause of the weather and a 30 minute run and Sun is a 2 hour bike but all recovery z1. I hope I an eat enough calories. I weighed in Monday at 152 and was 6.9% body fat. Race weight is now readjusted to 145.
  • I'm in my last week of transition and am like Carl doing KS and then one week off and then the IM plan. It is getting closer. IMWI will be my 2nd IM, though the first was 10 yrs ago.
  • I am taking one more week of transition and then starting the 12 week HIM plan in week 2 next week. I'm racing High Cliff on June 18th. I'm going to take one or two weeks of transition after that then hit a BBW as I move into the IM plan.

  • I'm officially starting (more of a headspace thing, actually) on May 23rd, 16wks out and after I we finish our ToC camp. Until then, routine is:

    Monday: Run, 2-3 x 1mi @ Tempo

Tues: AM bike, 3 x ~20' @ FTP, PM strides

Wed: Run 2-3mi @ Tempo, PM ~1:45 ride to/from a brick workout that my tri club does at the Rose Bowl. Kinda keeping the intensity of this ride on call, seeing how I feel that day.

Thurs: 1:40 ride, with about 30-40' hard. Climbing. PM strides

    Friday: repeat Monday

Sat: Next 3 Saturdays (after CaliHalf) I have monster climbing races/rides on the calendar.

Sun: 9th and 17th I have dirtbike rides scheduled .

I'm doing a dirt tour to the north rim of the Grand Canyon May 1-3 and then plan to ride solo a bit in northern AZ, southern UT. Gonna turn this into a running camp. Then I'll get in 25-30hrs of cycling during ToC.

Anyway, May 23rd is when I juggle that schedule around to accommodate a long run, swimming, etc. Probably gonna empty the gas out of the dirtbike and maybe even park it at Sawiris shop so I can't ride it all summer

  • Adjusting to the HIM plan after the October OS, a bit of a difference. The rest was nice and it seems like I enjoyed it more than expected!

Getting back to the pool and hoping to get my form back in the next week or two so that I can concentrate on longer intervals as I get closer to High Cliff. Hopefully the combination of continued form work with the upcoming swim workouts will get me into swim race shape.

The longer bike workouts are a 'challenge' as I can see that this is where we get the race specific benefits from the OS. Lots of concentration and is easier now that I've been though the pain of OS, looking forward to riding more!

Anyway, after High Cliff I'm planning on doing the same as others, take a down week or two then into the IMWi plan.

Looking forward to meeting more EN'ers, attending the memorial day and july camp as well as seeing the improved race results!
  • Week one of HIM training for a June race then the IM plan. I was in the pool for the first time in 7 months, and planning to do lots of roadie rides for the next 3 weeks. I may even run on Sunday one more time!
  • Hey Guys, here is my plan:

Focus on running for the next 6 weeks and attempt to pull off a half marathon PR.

After that I'm doing a 7 week HIM build for Muncie 70.3 and will likely focus on cycling.

Then I think I have 9 weeks to build for IMWI.
