  • @ Van - Hershery Park!!  I'd eat everything chocolate insight and come home at least 10 lbs heavier.  You must have some will power.

    @ Tucker - I'm counting on you to get JT back into shape.  He needs to ride/run with some ENers to "feel" part of the team and to be pulled along by your OS fitness.   Just don't kill him yet.  I think he'll do okay on the bike given his long history of riding, but there is a long stretch of road in Idaho that he will challenge his run.

    @ Allen and Stephen - good job guys.  Way to get it done.

    I swam 3000 yds yesterday.  Actually felt pretty good as I was able to hold the T-pace and it felt easier than prior swims, but I'm still slow.  Rode 62 miles today in 3hours 33'.  Windy, 50*, overcast. That is the longest ride I've EVER done in my life. Avg pace 17.1 mph.  I thought the 16' Z4 interval was gonna kill me, but I made it thru and did the rest of the ride per the plan.  Then ran 3 miles @ 8:23 avg pace.  First mile was 9:05 pace, second @ 8:15 then 3rd @ 7:50.  The 3 hour ride tomorrow will be interesting since it will be 2nd longest ride of my ride.

    Good luck and stay healthy.

  • my long ride went well, although i was falling asleep on the drive home!

    ride time: 8:51:13; (strauss did it in 6:55)

    115.12miles (was supposed to be 112 or 107 or something, but i just happened to see my friend make a wrong turn on the course and then had to chase him downhill to let him know and then climb back);

    TSS: 437.6, IF: 0.70;

    but sore and sleepy, but otherwise ok.

    oh and shannon castle from our CdA group is a monster cyclist and so are her friends!

    tomorrow i will finally swim.

    safe training to all!

  • oh, forgot to mention it was a climbing 115.12 miles (12750ft), which is why the times are a bit long...or at least that's how i am explaining it

  • @Gilberto - holy cow, nice work! 9 hours on a bike is a heckuva long time.... especially this early in the season!

    I had a train-wreck of a ride yesterday. 3... yes... 3 tire changes. Why? because genius over here forgot to take out the damaged tube from my saddle bag from the last time I got a flat. Got it all changed up from my first flat and then had to take it all apart once I figured out that it wouldn't take any air. Then a patch kit and Change 2. This lasted 30 minutes, patch didn't hold or their was another leak. Then my buddy remembered he had a spare 80mm tube (I had 404s on). Change 3.

    Then around mile 33 I started to get the left knee twinge I get when my seat is too high... which has happened 3 times before... when I forget to lower my seat becasue of the tights I am wearing (wouldn't think I would be that sensitive, but I now have a n=4). Could also be because I was surging like a madman (riding with friends) and trying to follow some pretty good climbers (e.g. a 30 second stretch of 520w with a peak of 720W)... feeling pretty silly about that right now.

    It is a sharp pain, so bailed on a discretion is the better part of valour thing... did get the 30 min run in though.

    Rain here in Seattle (go figure), so probably dialing up a nice long trainer ride today. Probably do the CDA course on my CT (real course video!) assuming my knee doesn't freak out.
  • @All - great job on the long rides

    I only made it 3 hours (42 miles) last night on the trainer. My legs could have made it the rest of the way but my ass was hurting too much from the seat. This was the first time I've been on the hard narrow bike seat for more than an hour. I was able to get used to it for an hour after a few weeks so maybe it will be the same with these long rides.

    "Monster cyclist!"  Ha! Well I'll take it. I think the only thing montrous were those hills!

    I had an IF of .75 for that thing and >3700 kj on the joule... does that mean I can eat more today?!!

    Now I just have to get my running back to acceptable levels; that does NOT seem to be a problem for you or a lot of other people on here.

    Training this week will be difficult as I'm at a conference half the week but hoping to keep running/swimming and do bike workout when I get back...

    Strong work everyone!

  • Oh you Cali folks and your nice weather and long climbs! You certainly know how to make the rest of us jealous.

    That's some great work Gilberto and Shannon! Wish I were there to join. Kind of. Maybe. Ok, probably not, though it does sound fun.

    Put in another 3 hours today with JT. I'm working on him Bruce. He will be ready for CDA I promise. Originally planned on smooth and steady but we just went up and down hills. Good times. Legs are a little tender from 7hrs on the bike this weekend but should be better by tomorrow. Better be as have 2 x 1mi @ TP. Who thought that was a good idea?
  • @Trevor...seriously, it might be nice to have a down day after these weekends! Man! Guess that is what it takes to be an Ironman though...right?
  • @ GH & Shannon - Nice ride, well done.  I wish I had some hills like that to ascend.   Just have to push a big gear on the IL flats.

    @ Tucker - thanks much for helping JT.  Sounds like you guys will be ready for the hills.

    I rode 3 hours (53 miles) today in mid-summer conditions.  Yesterday 50*, today 88* sunny and windy.  We just skip Spring here in Chicago.  I raised my seat slightly and it felt much better.  Had avg speed of 17.7 mph with avg HR of 140.  Drank 2 24oz bottles of Infinit + 2 H2O bottles.  Infinit worked well.  Week 1 in the books.

    Good luck to all for week 2.

  • Just completed my 3 hour ride on the trainer while watching the Masters (recorded). What a great contest with so many players in contention in the back 9.
  • Good job everyone on the workouts. I just completed my swim and run this morning. I can't believe we only have 11 weeks left!
  • Got back from Las Vegas Rage 1/2 IM Sunday night. First open water swim of the year, first real bike ride of the year. Both went really well. Although the longest I ever rode the trainer was 2:45, I think the couple back to back long bike days helped. Kind of a shocker to don the old wetsuit after not seeing it for 6 months! The water was 56-57 all week but the heat wave the day before helped it jump to 60, and 60 ain't that bad!

    Here's to hoping the water at CdA will come close to 60 by race day! Those 52-54 degree swims really take their toll!
