Week 9 Bike Test + 75 min of work -- Huh?

Hello all -- I am sure this has been asked/answered....but I can't find it.  For the Week 9 Bike test, the Training plan says to do a normal bike test (Either PWR or LTHR).  OK - got it.

But then there is a second entry for a 75 min workout with 20'/15/'10' of FTP work.

Is that correct?

Joe

  • I'm assuming you're in week 9 of the 12-week HIM plan.

April 26th in the Micro thread has the question and answer. Per R, "if you have power, do the power test. If you have HR, do that 20'/15'/10' workout".

The intermediate plan is a little vauge, but the advanced plan actually states "Alternate Workout for Heart Rate Athletes" for the second workout, which is a little more helpful image
  • @Daniela -- Yes. Week 9 of Intermediate 12-week HIM. I see that response now. But I am still a bit confused.... Is the workout below just a different LTHR protocol? Am I supposed to take the average over the work periods to get LTHR? (note: I am probably over-thinking this......)

Since I am back to riding w/o power, I plan on doing the LTHR test, so this is germane to my situation.

  • If you workout with power, then do the test. If you workout with HR, then do the 20/15/10 workout which is not test, just an every-day workout.
  • Joe- I am with you bro....It is very confusing and I asked coach and still doesnt make since. I am just doing the usual test for power and being done with it. HR peeps usually do the 42 minutes test and we usually do 20 min rest two then 20 min. Hell I thought we were going to do the FTP test and then turn around and do the bike workout followed by a brick run. That may turn into a challenge for us and I may just do that to see how it feels......NOT!!!!

    Happy training all.
