... Not sure if they had it last year, but they've had chicken broth in the past (they had it in 09)....

Every IM I've done outside of HI has had chicken broth, but the timing and location seems random. It starts appearing sometime after 3 PM and not at every aid station. And, yes, it is restorative, from either the salt, the fluid, or the protein in it, whatever, whenever I see it, I grab it, and I suggest others do the same.

And in 09, when it was raining and 48F towards the end of my run, it was salvation! Not so much the next year when it hit 80.

  • Hey everyone,

Sorry I have been noticeably absent since the RR. As soon as I got back, work just started kicking my ass big time.

In short, my RR went very well.  Finished a little south of my goal watts and feeling GREAT. Nutrition was spot on with the 1.5 scoops of Perpetuem per hour. Bike set up was solid thanks to TTBike Fit. For once, I actually felt more comfortable on the bars at the end of the ride. The only thing that sucked completely was that my Garmin totally screwed up. I have no reliable data. I know my average watts from glancing down at my computer during the ride, but I have nothing recorded after. WTF.

In any case, I finished up WAY faster than my last attempt at this distance, with frankly a lot left in the tank. I think I can give a little more and be okay for the run.  Will see in #2. All I really care about is making sure I beat my apparent doppleganger that Art met. It's okay Art. While we may not all look alike, you can take solace that he was probably at least my cousin or something.

  • Any folks should go check out Greg's full RR report at his website. A very good read and it contains a sweet picture of what I look like changing a flat image
  • One more lessons learned from the RR in CDA. If you're wearing a singlet on the bike, DO NOT forget to put sun block on your lower back. In the aero position the singlet rides up a little and after 6 hours straight at 75 degrees I ended up with a 1 inch strip sunburn across my lower back. It looks to be 2nd degree burns and is still dark red after 6 days. Ouch. Looking forward to getting the bike jersey, hopefully by CDA.
  • I'm with you!!!! Greg has referred to it as the IMCDA Tramp Stamp...
