Day 4

Since I ran on Christmas Eve too, today marks five days in a row and my legs told me so. I managed a plodding 2 miles in the dark. The temp was mid-30s but the wind chill was 25 degrees and I was all set to claim an extra point on that technicality...but then it wasn't really that windy. (Things you will normally never hear me say to the Weather Channel at 6 a.m.: "What? 36 degrees already? $^#$!")

  • Half.  Way.  There.

Up early again this morning since I had to be out and back before my wife headed back to work after a long break.

I got in exactly 15 in 2:15.  No TP or FT (Freezing Tushie) points for me.  I did get in some "speed work" because I realized I was pretty far from the house and still 6 miles away, so my last miles were closer to 8's than to 9's...and wow was that less than pleasurable.

But in general, things are good.  I felt a lot of soreness in my lower legs as I started out, but after a mile or two everything was fine.

I'm at 58.7 miles total - my biggest week ever.  Hey, I have an idea - how about running 50+ miles in the next 4 days ?!?!

    Mike

  • Ran 4 in sub 32 = 5 points for me! let the dog off leash so he got more miles!! he discovered a frozen big puddle and that puzzled him! still quite windy here so one way feels quite nice for 28 and the other way going home!!! zipped the 2nd layer back up!!! new bike gloves are working quite well except that the fingers are too big to change music on th IPOD so I let it shufffle, not sure how it got on shuffle!! but still I listened to Christian, disco and hiphop! and had to laugh at "Boogie Nights" this morning, went right on over to PT for piriformis and think I am making progress. felt like I coulda run more! no soreness or other run fatigue other than normal warm up pangs!! had on my new Garmin and it is uploaded too! m

I have ran every day since the dog came home from college on Saturday 2.5 weeks ago, except for rainy Christmas Eve day...!  not sure how many days that is, but I finally feel like I am in my groove... LOVE running every DAY!  just love it.    granted I call running 1 mile, running so I started that Saturday, running 1 mile and have inched up to 4!!  The dog doesn't seem to be suffering either and I have noticed that if he can run 4 -6 miles he is way more chilled than 2-3!!!  Irish Setter puppy!    m

  • It may not be sub 32 here- but the 19mph winds leave me chilled!!! I didn't make it out at lunch and I'm just hoping to nut up enough to get in a few miles later this afternoon. I'd rather run in 25 degrees with no wind than what is currently going on out there!

I don't think I've ever heard a woman use that phrase before, Nemo!  Love it.

Just got 4 miles in on the Tmill over lunch, with 1 at TP, for 5 points today.  Going for consistency!

  • I'm trying to hang with you Mike but today was tough, my body is revolting.  Feel a chest cold coming and had the hardest time to get the kegs to turn over today.  Didn't help that it was 29 degrees, pitch black at 5:30 this morning with a lot of black ice out there.

Got in 10 today, hoping I feel better tomorrow.

  • Big props to the Mikes, Bob and co. You're all killing it. I don't think I've even cracked 50 for a week. 45-46 is an all time high and it's been years since I saw that. way before my EN days. image

quick and shortie run for me this a.m. crunched for time and had to get to the office. 3.5 mile loop with 1 mile at TP and 1 FT point ("freezing tushie"). kind of icey out there this morning. definitely kept me on my toes when I slid wide on the first turn!

Bob, I think I've located your problem....  I'm not saying that one shouldn't enjoy a little "spirit" over the holidays, but rolling a keg along during your runs might be a BIT over-doing it.

In all seriousness - you gotta love this place, where people apologize for "only" posting up 10 miles!!!

    I hope you feel better!

    Mike

  • Logged over 200 miles on Day 3... driving back home with the rest of the holiday traffic that is... so no points for Day 3.

Sunny and 50 degrees today... went out during lunch time for a 7 mile run in 1 hour (2 miles at TP). I'm digging this holiday run challenge, great motivation.

  • Mike H & Bob- you guys are just killing it! Awesome!

Mike G- well you'll be happy to know I did finally "Nut Up" and got 4 miles done this afternoon just for you! I'm not doing any tempo stuff- trying to just be consistent and not do anything silly that would hurt this calf. It's been behaving so far and I'm gonna try to keep it that way!
  •  Winter has returned to PA! 24 degrees with wind chill of just 11. Double-layer day

8 miles plus 1 FT point plus the hour bonus.... my cold fingers appreciate the extra point... ;-)

  • Legs were kind of heavy after yesterday's 12, so I just logged a measly one mile again on the treadmill. I feel like a total wiimp after reading what some of you guys are doing! Team EN Chicas, I promise to log more than one mile per day for the rest of the days of the challenge!
  • We just got back home this afternoon after a few days at the in-laws over Christmas (15" of snow made a nice White Christmas) and then a few days in downtown Chicago at daughter #2's Volleyball Tournament, part of "Mayor Daley's Holiday Sports Festival". Lots of Fun.

Have run every day so far, including 7 miles early this AM on the Hotel treadmill.

Good luck to everyone! Very impressive team effort!

  • Intended to go around the lake again today [super hilly 8.6] but it was snowing pretty hard early. Thought about it after skiing but once I hit the section before the road turns toward the sky I started slipping all over the place and can't believe that I did not end up on my back. Thought about going for it and then realized that I am on vacation, have run plenty this year and falling down on the ice is just stupid. Anyhow likely the slowest 5 miler of the year.43:55 but I did stop to take some pics which I will post later.

Not going to name any names but I am getting worried about some of you. Doubling your biggest ever week seems like a really bad idea to me. Lets keep it in perspective people. If I am worried think about what Linda is thinking???
  • Another night run for me.  Roads were slick, but I was extra cautious.  I've been doing odd jobs around the house since Saturday as my wife and kids are away until Thurs.  It's been a long time since I did actual work, painting, plumbing, cleaning, etc and I have to say, I've turned into quite a cream puff.  I was a manual labor kind of guy back in the day, but I've been wearing a white collar for 14 1/2 years and it shows.  Kudos to all you folks that do physical work for your job and train on top of it.   I was beat, but managed to squeeze in 4 miles, with .5 @ TP and it was sub 32 = 5.5 points.

Nemo, I'm glad to know that those 4 were for me.  Excellent that the calf is behaving!

  • Easy 3 for midway recovery. Feelin' strong and injury-free in December.

  • just got in as i waited for it to get cold to get the extra point. it was definitely getting slick out there and had to do the Ali shuffle a few times, but managed to stay upright. totals ended up being 4.2 miles with 1 at TP for a total of 6 points. my legs were tired when we started this challenge, now they are just really tired.
  • Took Chris' advice and pulled it back today.  2 miles for me, 1 at TP.  V02 Max intervals in the morning.....lookout!

  • Got in 7 in an hour. 2 at TP. Whew, all this running is making me tired!
  • 7 miles in the dark. Winter has come to Tampa -- it was about 49 out and will drop into the upper 30's tonight. I'm thinking of moving South! But I do feel the pain of those running in the real cold. I was in Colorado earlier in the fall and did my long run with the temp in the lower 20s and windchill in the teens. Many moons ago, I raced in 71 below windchill. You read that right -- have it in print too! I've lived in Maine, Wisconsin, N. Dakoto, Colorado, PA, NJ, Iceland, etc, etc. Been there, done that when it comes to cold weather. That's why I'm in FL for good.
  • Long hard Monday at the office made me want to get away to the Run Challenge tonight. Definitely cleared my head but I'm getting really tired of tempo run intervals. 16.8 pts today.

Hip flexors are feeling kind of worn down after 4 days of intervals and the pop is certainly gone from the stride. I had to switch out to racing flats halfway through today's workout since my left foot was feeling weird in the Vibram FFSs. They've worked great for everything else since IMWI.

Way to go to Mike, Bob and John L! You guys want to ease up a little?

    John

  • Woke up late (Monday is a Day off in OS!!!) and I was able to get in 2.5 vanilla MP-EP miles this morning before work. Calves were hurtin' all day! It's gonna be real cold tomorrow for the brick (Bonus Points).
  • 4.7 miles spending the entire time on th elook out for and avoiding the black ice. Wasn't fast, but it was cold!

  • Sorry Ladies but no run for me for day 4. Work plus MIL over for dinner right after work led to time slipping away. Had no desire to run at 9pm in the rain with a full belly after Steve got home from driving his Mom home.

    CC

  • Ok....three miles yesterday all three at TP and all under 32....nothing like the epic points of others but keepin it goin.
