  • Well, I got it done.  It wasn't pretty, and it certainly wasn't 'fast', but I did my 5K run test on the treadmill at 6:00 this morning.   The good news is, it's done!  And, there is room for improvement!     Bad news is, there's lots of room for improvement!   Here are the numbers...

Mile 1: 10:52   Mile2:  21:03  Mile 3:  33:11   .1 : 34:16    Vdot 26.2      Had to slow the pace, as I felt fluish.  Didn't think that stroking out on a treadmill at the Y would be a good idea...

This was the third time I have run since the Chicago Marathon on 10-11-09.  Did a 5K race on 10-31-09 which was run/walk 2:1 ratio and did 36:40, so this was an improvement.  I did Galloway run/walk all season, and today was straight running.  No where to go but up, right??  I guess that I should be happy with this time, as it is faster than what I've done at this distance for a year or two.  I feel the need to quantify my slowness...broke my left foot 3 x's last year, and did NOTHING for a year, until March of '09.  Came to the reality that  I was way too fat, worked hard at losing weight and getting back into working out.  I've lost 50 lbs. since then, did Steelhead in August, Chicago Marathon was my 12th marathon, and now I'm training for IMLOU in August 2010.  I look forward to improving my speed on the run and the bike, and increasing my Vdot like crazy!  I know I can do distance, as I've done a 50K as well.  Just have to learn how to do these things faster!!!!  And this is the place to do it!  I look forward to training with all of you!!!  EN Rocks!!!   Now, to do the bike test!

  • Forgot to mention that I put the treadmill on 1% grade, as I think that is supposed to simulate outdoors. Is that correct?
  • Hi Miss Barbara!!!

Congrats on doing your Vdot test and for such an amazing 2009 so far. What a story. Can you imagine strapping on a 50 pound back pack and running that 5K????

Onward and upward my dear!!  Good for you!

OK so thought i would share my test results.  Due to my schedule i wasnt able to do my test till this evening.  Pacing was so bad i deserve a swift kick in the rear.  Was trying to Avg 6:20-6:25 min/mi.  It was dark out and wasnt paying attention to my garmin as closely as i should have.    Did first  .4 mi at 530-545 pace before i realized what i was doing, then i backed off big time.  Got my first mi to avg 6:19 but damage was done as you can see from results.  Oh well overall VDOT is 48.5 compared to 49 last year this time.

    Overall 20:25 avg pace 6:35

    1st mi: 6:19

    2nd mi:6:39

    3rd mi: 6:53

    .1mi: 6:53

Hi Derek, Congrats on completing your Vdot test and for virtually smoking me. I hope to run that pace at my next test!!!

  • Thanks Carrie!  I'm pretty psyched about getting faster and svelt!

  • thanks carrie, saw that many of you guys broke VDot of 50 last year.  Definitely hoping to accomplish that this OS

  •  Finally got around to doing my test this week.  I took two weeks off after the Longhorn and am now ready to go.

I did this on a track this time, cause I figured it would be easiest to repeat.  Anyway, the results are below:

    Mile 1: 7:33; cadence - 89; hr - 166

    Mile 2: 7:33; cadence - 87; hr - 175

    Mile 3: 7:29; cadence - 86; hr - 177

    .1 - 0:42; cadence - 86; hr - 180

    Totals: 23:17 for a 41.6 vdot

    Now, lets get to work!
