  • 1 short mile on the mill today after this morning's 30/30's on the bike. Just enough to say I ran another day straight. Decided to look at big picture and play it smart with the running. Can't deal with another season of injuries. Wish I could claim my wife's tundra points though. Of all days she decides to start running again she chooses to go outside today; 20 degrees and dropping (have dropped 8 degrees in the last 2 hours), 20+ mph winds with gusts, feels like 9 degrees out there.
  • Ran 2 miles after today's 30/30s. Cuh-cuh-cuh-cold! Glanced in the mirror before jumping in the shower and noticed all these red blotches from where any piece of clothing had rubbed against my skin during the run. Glad to have finally nabbed a cold point though!

  • 3 mi on the Tmill keeps the streak alive.  At this rate, I'm looking at the possibility of my biggest running week since my last marathon build a year ago.

    Mike

  • My legs are definitely feeling the fatigue so I am keeping low miles. Just 2.1 this AM as a BRick after 30/30s. It was cold and windy. But I am enjoying the challenge.

  • It's fr-fr-freeezing out with cr-cr-crazy w-w-wind--that's me typing with my teetch chattering. 2 miles, 1 temp bonus point! Paltry but something to put on the board!

  • 5 miles! oh yeah baby! and while I was running..trying to change my 'tude about the cold
Top Ten Reasons Why I love to Run Sub 32:
    1. I always stay runnin cuz it's too cold to walk!
    2. I am carrying extra weight in clothing so spring runnin I should be faster!
    3. Even bad coffee tastes good after a cold run!
    4. I get to sing out loud with my IPOD cuz nobody else is out!
    5. Belting out Christina Aguilera "I am a Fighter"
    6. I am not always thinking "water, water!" like in the summer
    7. I get to be outside
    8. I get points for being cold!
    9. I don't have to sit on a towel on my drive home cuz I am not wet with sweat... gross
    10. I love to run!
  • In Minneapolis it is 4 degrees, but feels like -5 (compliments of the weather channel)!!  I just finished a 3 mile run after the one hour bike on trainer.  Felt great to get back outside and feel the fresh air and warm sun on my face....oh, how I miss the sun!  All in all, awesome day to run outside even if it is 4

  • Track session for Team Chavez

    over 1 hour total
    7.5 miles
    2 @ z5
    =10.5 each

nice work everyone! Bummed I missed yesterday... Oh well!

    CC
  • Welcome to the second half!  Today was a "recovery day" - a nice slow 12.8 miles in right at 2 hours.  Again, I started off with some pretty sore legs, but they woke up after a mile.  Chilly and humid after a good rain yesterday, but not cold enough for a point.  14.8 points in the sheet, with a total of 71.5 miles.

I'm feeling a tad guilty for not doing the prescribed OS workouts...but I'm in survival mode at this stage.

    Mike

  •  Skipping it today.  Was neg 4 and windy when I woke up.  Bonus was NO POWER.  Would have been stupid anyhow but no hot water after would have made it really really suck.  Huge wind gusts up on the mountain today, they were saying windchill was more than 50 below.  Felt like a million below.  My DW about got blown off the side.  Started to think running after but got so cold so fast pumping gas that I have opted for sitting in front of the fire.  First day off in a few weeks.  Kinda feels nice.

  • you guys are awesome! I have to give props to Suzanne because I know just how cold it is here (not to mention the 40-50mph wind gusts).
In a sick way, I'm hoping for a cold day tomorrow so I can nab a cold point of my own!
  • I'm hoping for a cold day tomorrow so I can nab a cold point of my own!

Uh, by my watch there's still plenty of hours left today. Getcher butt out there Becky! Just don't lick your lips mid-run, I learned that the hard way this a.m.
  • tempting as a post-work run may be (in 50mph winds that will blow me over), Suzuki, I gotta make up the bike tt that I missed traveling yesterday to officially start off my OS plan (I could turn that into a brick... but that would be asking a lot of me). Tomorrow should be a day off before the 5k test, but if it's cold I'll suck it up for a few miles just to say I did it and join the ranks of you crazies! Thanks for the lip smacker tip. Ouch!
  • Love the smack talk!! I'm taking the day off. I haven't run more than 2 days in a row for almost 6 months and the last 4 days strait have my knees crying for mercey. I love the challenge- but I'm gonna listen to my body and give it a break today. I'll be back for more miles tomorrow!
  • You guys are taking a day off?  What!?!

So am I.    4 consecutive days of running + 3 consecutive days of manual labor + 1 hour @ .93 on the bike = 2 tired legs.

Time to kick back, put my feet up and do some serious recovery.

    Dave

  • Yeah, I was feeling surprisingly good until just now when I stood up from my desk at work and my legs went, "Creeeeaaaaak." Ugh.
  • My first sub zero point today, added to my 1 mile and I have 2 more points.

Very windy with up to 50mph gusts, felt like running in place when the wind was howling. Tried to get pictures of it, but the wind just doesn't show in the photos.
  • Just got er done.  After the bike workout this morning, the  90 minute Bikram yoga class, the 10 degree temp and nasty wind it was tough just thinking about running.

Threw the cold weather gear on thinking I might get a mile or two in.  Legs felt awesome, I guess the Yoga is working, went 9 miles in 68 min, felt so good didn't want to stop.

  •  Four miles in HUGE winds!  3 at TP and all under 32 degrees!

  •  2 miles at 28 degrees

  • 2.5 on the mill. 5 weeks out from IMAZ and lack of motivation!!

  • After the bike 30 X30's did 4 milles on the treadmille at Z1 + , did the pickups, stopped at that to let the legs get a bit of a rest before tomorrow.
  • 1.5 miserable miles in the late afternoon in sub-zero (with wind chill) temps. Had the right gear as you can see, but was just plain COLD!!! What a way to earn 2.5 points...1.5 to run, 1 for sub-freezing!

  • Patrick,

Who's that skinny guy in the photo?

  • 12 degrees, 13 mph winds with 22 mph gusts.....3 miles + only 1 stinking point for freezing my a-- off= 4 points. however, it was a clear night and it's really nice to have your path completely lit up by the moon.
  • Whooped from lifting weights in the AM + 60 mins on bike with 30-30s.   Waited until the evening to run 5.1 miles...all at "bag on head" pace = Zone Zero.  2 days to go!

  • Another long day at the hospital. Again escaped to the Run Challenge to clear my head but seems I'm burning out a little quicker each day. Only able to hit 13 pts today.

I'm planning to run another hour tomorrow morning before heading out of town to an FIGHTING ILLINI basketball game at the Assembly Hall in Champaign. My wife and I are alums and are hoping they break their losing streak at home against Northwestern.

    ILL- INI!

Mike H. - I think you're pulling away. Great job! Thanks for boosting the Challenge with your enthusiasm.

    John

  • Another EZ 3mi for 3 points. Steady as she goes.

  • I was gonna wimp out - until i saw coach P's photo!!! It's 18° here with 20+MPH gusts. I couldn't get my session in this morning so I did my hour on the trainer and got outside and ran 2.2 miles a EP at just before 11PM! thx Coach P for providing mr inspiration.
